I have eaten at close to a 100 Indian restaurants and eaten Indian well over 1000 times. I am an American with a foreign stomach as my dad refers to me as. I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the flavor of their butter chicken plus it had many pieces in the chicken that couldn't be chewed. I unfortunately must say this is the worst Indian restaurant I have ever eaten at. The good part is that it was cheap. If you love Indian this restaurant is not for you, sorry. They serve free water but it is only potable. Not filtered or anything like that so I bought their 40 peso water. Service and ambiance was good.

If I were a resident of Kapitolyo, I would be amused to be surrounded by plenty of cafes and restaurants having different themes and flavours. What turned out as a random Thursday dinner out of my comfort zone led me to Naan. I have yet to taste the best curry/roti of Manila and I have to say this establishment could use improvement. My folks and I enjoyed our vegetable samosa, but apart from that the rest were just disgruntling. I have always believed delicious and things of high quality don't always have to be expensive. Looking at the price points of their offering, food are fairly priced. Your P300 could go a long way, but the taste is not at all authentic. Butter chicken was served warm, while naan was burnt. I thought a good naan should be chewy, but what we got served was almost not edible. For the hour that we stayed there I could remember a few take out meals served and a table occupied by other customers so I guess it was a quiet Thursday night for them. Management may want to consider performing quality checks once in a while since this establishment has potential. Servers were hospitable and accommodating, however like I said, quality of food offerings could be improved.

Aside from traditional Maranao food which has been quite widespread in Metro Manila, another…read moreexciting cuisine for me to discover is Tausug food. One of my best friends in grad school in UP is this adorable Tausug Muslimah, and she has always egged me on into trying her homeland's best recipes. She has lived most of her life in Manila, though, and she gets her Tausug food from her yaya who is also from Zamboanga, that's why she isn't much of a guide as far as Tausug food in Manila is concerned, so I had to explore and find these spots myself. One of my favorite Tausug restaurants is Gayyah's Pagkaunan, which is a fairly recent addition to Malate and Ermita's string of Halal restaurants. Gayyah's not only serves Tausug food, but they also have Arabic, Pakistani, Malaysian and Indonesian, fare. Outside is a sign that they are also a Halal butcher and grocery store. What I love about Gayyah's is their clean and very well-kept premises. I don't mean any offense, but most Halal restaurants that I have been to don't really care much about their look or their presentation. Gayyah's is spotless, bright and cheerful. The food here is carinderia-type, and it is mostly composed of traditional Tausug fare combined with Halal Filipino food such as adobo and other saucy viands. What I like about this store, though, is their traditional Tausug "tiyula itum" which they describe as South Mindanao's black soup. It is indeed a strange color of green-black: the curry gives it a greenish tinge, while the beef is completely blackened by burnt coconut flakes. It has a sour broth that reminds me a lot of the Ilonggo "linaga" that I enjoyed as a kid. On my first time, I finished the entire bowl with gusto. A P50 serving had a few chunks of tender beef in it. I have never had anything quite like tiyula itum before and it definifely was a cultural experience for me. When I went there for the first time, the ladies were very helpful and they patiently answered my questions about Tausug food. I have gone back twice, because the satti wasn't available the first time I went. The food is cheap and clean, and the service is very friendly and warm. Moro hospitality at its best!

I'd say their chicken curry is good but what I cook is suited for my taste. Me and my colleagues have ordered the chicken biryani and naan (something like pita bread) chicken curry. The most notable thing is how spicy their yellow colored rice is (I believe it's called Biryani)! One colleague loved the Indian food and the other didn't like it. I was just okay with it but if it was in bigger serving, I wouldn't be able to stand the spiciness. They have tomatoes with coleslaw on the side to probably not be sick with it. Their chicken curry sauce compliments the rice and the naan. The place is a bit small but it's fine, Indian-themed, with red, white, and yellow colors. The service was bit slow, we had to tell the waitress in the cashier that we were gonna order already. But other than that, it was fine. The menu had some variety, I just think they can add more options in there. The price is just right for the serving size. I don't think they have other branches yet. It's a good idea they put up an Indian restaurant there cause it's very rare to find here. I will probably recommend this for Indian friends (if I'd have any) and probably those who want some new cuisine although I'm not a fan of Indian food. But this is honestly not gonna be on my worth going back lists.

Ganeza is a curry place that serves predominantly Indian food, although there are other types of curries like Japanese. We tried their naan, samosa, and vegetable rice since a lot were out of stock. Their naan is very good and made from good quality ingredients, very authentic too. It comes with a sauce and it is a meal in itself. The samosas are also tasty and has enough spice. The rice is spicy but good. We are happy with what we ordered. Service is fast and good. Can be a choice for future eats.
