Our cruise ship diverted to Ravenna for a day and we chose Al Rustichello as a lunch spot. A block outside the old city walls, we could not have been happier with our choice. We chose two pastas and some wine and shared it all, easily done as the pasta is served in the skillets in which they were prepared. The portions were ample but not overwhelming and the flavors were so satisfying. Reasonable prices, especially after having been gouged at all the touristy restaurants for the previous 10 days. Friendly service, relaxed vibe. Possibly the best lunch on our Mediterranean trip. read more

What to do as a Yelper in Ravenna? It's always a gamble when eating in places where there isn't a foodie fueled reviewing culture. But, this gamble paid off at Al Rustichello. A little off the tourist beaten path past the city gates lies Al Rustichello. I had heard Cappelletti comes from this region, and the photos of the creamy white sauce were enough to sell me. The dish is served in a pan, presumably the same one it was cooked in and comes with a hearty portion. It did not disappoint. Hearty meaty flavour mixed with the saltiness of the crudo e panna and asparagus was an explosion of flavour. We also had the Tagliatelle ai Funghi, which proved a hit for my mushroom loving mother. All for a reasonable price and paired with delicious white wine from the region. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend and hope that you enjoy your authentic Ravenna down-home meal as much as I did. read more

You don't need a menu to order local home-made pasta. It comes in as many variations as you can imagine - cappelletti with asparagus, tagliatelle with porcini or al ragù. Feels like at home. Service is familiar and very kind. As always, good to have a reservation, especially if you are more than two, but mamma will go an extra mile and if you are patient enough - find the right table for you. Just back from a wonderful meal at Trattoria Rustichello. It is a local restaurant and a couple of the tables were tourists but the majority were locals. Had a nice homey feel to it. We never did receive a menu, nor did anyone else, the owner/manager whoever he was, just named a few things. He suggested antipasta to start which consisted of green salad, bread salad, bruschetta and one other thing and it was the perfect start to the mean. One was easily enough for two of us to share. Then he recommended the cappalletti with asparagus which apparently is a regional specialty and it was amazing. Again we shared one dish for the two of us. And even though we were so full, we managed to share a tiramisu which is made in house. Had a different texture than others we have had, and we loved it. All in all a great meal, and the total bill was 35 and that included bottle water and carafe of wine. We would recommend if you are looking for good food, in a local environment. read more

My husband and I swung by here for dinner on a Saturday night a few weeks ago. The menu and prices seemed decent enough - and even an artichoke and pasta option for a veg like myself- so we gave it a shot. It was packed when we walked in, and at first we were told there would be a wait, but then space was found in a large back room. For starters, the fact the restaurant charges a 2 euro cover per person is just ridiculous when you don't touch/want the basket of cold white bread or biscuits placed on the table. When we told the waitress this, she gestured in response toward the linens, napkins and cutlery as the rationale. So its extra for what you basically SHOULD provide for a restaurant? Give me a break. Also, the wine costs at least 9 EUROS a glass which is just crazy in Italy. They also won't serve tap water so I just drank out of my own water bottle. Now the food. Here, there is no disappointment as can be expected with great Italian food. The pasta, served in a black skillet, was a large portion and it was buttery and tasty with the artichokes (although I still think they were mushrooms). I demolished most of this with help from my husband. He got the rabbit and was quite pleased with the amount of meat, which he said was unusual. He said it was quite tender. But I think we agreed the star of his plate were the roasted potatoes. They were crispy and tender at the same time and just OMG amazing. read more

Great food and atmosphere- The waitress is "the menu" (so don't bother asking for one) and the waitress we had had good English and was nice- Listen to her advice and just relax and enjoy the experience ;0) Come hungry! It's a typicall Italian place- u can choose to eat all 3 courses +desert and cofee or less...The place is not expensive, the portions are filling. There is something for everyone- carnivores and vegetarians.... We went there twice- second time we were 9 people- all had fun. Try the mix of 3 first course dishes- fantastic! The locals go there- it was recommended to us by the hotel's clerk who said he goes there when he wants a good meal and a nice evening ;0) read more

We enjoyed a fabulous meal at this restaurant. The food was fantastic - typical regional dishes - and the service was impeccable. They were able to prepare gluten free pasta for our family members who have dietary restrictions. The restaurant is conveniently located; it's close to the pedestrian center yet feels like it's "off the beaten path" as most of the diners are not tourists. Highly recommended! read more

Spectacular place, I was a frequent patron when I was living in Ravenna, just about few doors from my home. I really loved the garganelli alle verdure served in the aluminum skillet. The owner and waiters were always friendly and often stopping by the table for a chat. I miss it! read more

Fantastic food and an absolutely wondeful atmosphere. The waiter, Herminio, made meal all the more special. A true gem in Ravenna! Recommend to everyone visting the city. We visited other cities and ate at other fantastic restuarants but none left such a memorable impression as Al Rustichello. Reasonable prices too!
