I love Moroccan food but apparently it's the best in France (where we never go without visiting a couscous place) with the possible exception of Morocco itself to which, regrettably, I've never been. We got the menú de degustación which stated with a tomato juice amuse-bouche; tasty! Then we had hummus, baba ghanoush, and tabbouleh salad. They were good. Next was a trio of fried savories that were OK - one had powdered sugar on top and I did not like the combination. Then came the main courses: a tangine that was over-braised in my view; and some couscous with chicken that was only OK. My main issue is that the broth was not spicy enough while the chicken was not moist enough. We had a dessert selection that was good; we took the waitress's suggestion as to which ones to take, sticking to the less sweet ones. We finished with a nice mint tea. The staff was kind and the neighbourhood--near Plaza Colón in the Recoletos area--is very nice. The waitress also suggested that we share the menú for two among the three of us. We appreciated the suggestion as there was more than enough food. But I'm not sure I'd go back. Rather, I'll wait until the next trip to France or else to a Moroccan adventure. The décor was interesting, certainly very Moroccan - or at least the caricature of Moroccan design. Perhaps a bit over the top, but I liked it! read more
