I love seeking the hidden gems, and this is certainly one in Locarno…read more It's Michelin listed but not rated - but then, who cares? Sometimes Michelin rated means dropping a few hundred francs for a beautiful atmosphere while still feeling hungry... A group of us ordered various dishes and every single dish I have eaten/tried are simply very fresh, ingredients meticulously blended, and nicely decorated. They even proudly claim their local tomato served in their tomato/mozzarella dish is the best - and amazingly it really tasted as if it was freshly picked. The serving sizes are perfect and I'd recommend ordering from their menu of the day - you get a special pricing based on how many dishes from the selection you want to order, and this ensures you are eating the freshest dishes from the menu. With pasta cooked and seasoned to perfection, lamb that is perfectly cooked, fresh succulent tomatoes, perfectly cooked risotto served with local egli filet, one can't go wrong eating here. The service is very helpful and the chef comes out to meet everyone after the meal. Set your GPS and find this place. It's located on a small corner across from the Migros Garden and Coop - so not too hard to find. Reasonably priced meal for a Michelin listed restaurant.

Great food with a beautiful view!…read more Ascona is absolutely beautiful and this restaurant sits on one of the prettiest streets I've seen that overlooks the entire lake and mountains and it's a beautiful sight to see. During the day you can sit outside in the mornings or afternoons and share a cup of coffee or nice glass of wine and just enjoy the sun shining over the lake and the peace and tranquility and beauty of Switzerland from this great restaurant. At night the restaurant lights are dimmed low and the dinner is enjoyed by glow of candlelight. It makes for a wonderfully romantic evening. The wine list is pretty extensive and they also have a nice selection of Ticinese wines that you cannot find outside of Switzerland. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and our server was happy to go over the wine list with us and made some excellent recommendations for local wines to try. They have a pretty good extensive menu for food as well, they have everything from pizza to salads to pasta and grilled shrimp and everything is pretty affordable especially for being in Switzerland. One of the best dishes I had was the mushroom risotto it was very very good and full of flavor. It was also nice that you could order the smaller or larger portion size which is always a great option for groups who like to share and try several plates. I highly recommend trying some of their deserts they are all very good as well. They had some deserts on the menu that I've never had anywhere else before and some I've never even heard of so we decided to try them since our server recommended them so highly and said they were some of the restaurants specialties and they were all very unique and very very good. Overall it's a great place, if you're in the area and looking for a nice place to enjoy the view and get some great food I highly recommend checking this place out morning or night you will not be disappointed!

It had been a long day for my friend and me and we were ready for a nice big dinner in the amazing…read morefortress city of Bellinzona. Since we were in the Italian part of Switzerland, we really wanted to hit up an Italian joint. We wandered the many winding streets, looking for something to strike our fancy when we spied this place, all alone down one of the many side streets. We were attracted by its large "Trattoria" sign and the warm glow emanating from its windows. The place is larger than it looks, with a bunch of smaller rooms toward the back. It was also quite empty when we first got there, but we were pretty early for dinner, I think like around 6:30pm. As the night wore on the place steadily filled up (with locals, it looked like) and was quite lively by the time we left a couple of hours later. They had no printed menus, just a large chalkboard with the daily offerings that the waitress took around from table to table. They are serious about serving what's local and frech NOW, apparently. Since it was the start of autumn wild boar and venison were featured on the menu, as well as other seasonal ingredients, like chestnuts. We started off with a couple of glasses of local white wine, which was excellent, and they brought out some bread and a little pile of shaved wild boar salumi, sprinkled with salt and rosemary. Oh wow, that was so good, just melted in our mouths. The bread was great too, hearty and crusty. After some deliberation and help from our waitress translating what the menu items meant, I decided on the wild boar stew with polenta and my friend got the risotto with pancetta, chestnuts, mushrooms. They were both SO good, my stew was rich and flavorful, and the polenta delectably creamy and satisfying. My friend's risotto had all kinds of flavors happening within it and we were both very happy campers, chasing down the awesome food with some equally awesome local red wine this time. I forget the names of the grapes and all that--we just asked the waitress what she recommended and she just brought this stuff out. The service was as good as the food, and the prices were reasonable. Combined with a relaxed yet refined ambiance, I do think this place is as good as it gets. As much as I love to try new places, if I'm ever in Bellinzona again I'd come back to this place.
