Came here recently for a business dinner with office colleagues. The food was wonderful, the service was highly personalized and overall, we had a wonderful time as a group. Their food is Lebanese and Middle eastern staples- a good collection of Mezzes (Hummus, Babaghanoush, Moutabel, Tabbouli, etc) with pita bread. We tried a 3 course meal which came with mezzes initially followed by a HUGE portion size main course (I had a halloumi cheese grilled wrap) and then desserts. In hindsight, the quantity was large and we should have ordered lesser- but food was top notch. There are also ample Vegetarian options across the board. Second time coming to this place and I can say the service is the worst I've experienced anywhere. Not only are they ride and inattentive, but the food takes forever to arrive. We've visited Al-Ajami on so many occasions because we've made it a point to have dinner at this restaurant on every visit to Paris. I've even written glowing reviews on it! Unfortunately, after many disappointing visits since my original review, I feel compelled to do an update. The Service: The most frustrating experience in the world is trying to get served at this restaurant. Unless you speak Arabic (we don't) you will be ignored and your order will be delayed. We've experienced this on at least 3 visits to Al-Ajami. Our latest visit was an exercise in trying to get our server's attention to order, to figure out where our food was after a 45 minute wait, and to get our bill. Not a pleasant dining experience. The Ambiance: Such a pretty restaurant but there are way too many tables crammed in now. We were hidden behind a wall and next to a staircase and couldn't move our chairs. It was claustrophobic. The Food: Everything used to be delicious but not anymore! I still suggest the Fattoush salad, which is fantastic. Everything else (chicken, labne, foul) was NOT good. The Prices: This place is not cheap so why pay for average food and terrible service? Overall: I wouldn't recommend this place at all and see from other reviews that others agree. Truly awful service We had three people in the group, placed our order the waiter delivered first person main dish right away, we were happy that the service is quick, but no the 2 others in the group had to wait for 40 minutes for their dish when the first person is already done with his meal. Terrible food and terrible service! The French are not known for their great service, however they are more graceful and at least don't kiss ass based on appearance. It's sad. Mark Zackerberg, Bill Gates etc dress normal and they might not get a great service at this restaurant if the waiters and owners didn't recognize them. These Muslims waiters and Arab Muslim owner are snobby and wanna be French. They need to look in the mirror and remember that they are Arabs! This was our best meal in Paris. Service was fine. We had some recommendations from our server. Kebbeh Hamis and the Sunday night special Dajaj Mehshi. Both were extraordinary dishes to us. We loved the hummus. I can't compare to other similar restaurants in Paris but this was great. Maybe a bit pricey but we had 4 appetizers and shared one main dish for 78€. Although lebanese food is my favorite cuisine, I have no idea why I was looking for this in Paris. THis place was just bad from the get go. Try it because the food is superb. It is hands down the best Lebanese restaurant in my experience, including those in the Middle East. The flavours are authenitc and, while the sophisticated subtle hand of the creative chef is evident, his expertise in traditional preparation of rare dishes is the big news here. I had Molokhayya over white chicken and rice, and finsihed off with Osmalieh. Both were excellent. The atmosphere is semi casual, the restaurant is showing a little of its age but not so as to be unpleasant, and the service is good. My one disappointment was that they inexplicably did not have the arabic coffee tonight. read more

Incredible food with no nonsense service. Have been going whenever in Paris for about 5 years, and the food is always consistent. Semi-formal dining room and intimate ambiance matches the high quality, authentic food. Fattoush salad is second to none, and the mixed grill kebab is a nice way to try a few kinds of juicy, tasty meats. Chicken is the best kebab meat. I would say the hummus is typical, but really nice pairing with a very fresh, warm pita, every time. Great Lebanese wine list as well. read more

Excellent. Always looking for a break from french cuisine after an extended stay. This is a good antidote. Lentil soup was puréed, hot and delicious. Accompanied by nice array of olives, radish and bread. I had the daily special which was cous cous (large tender beads) topped with lamb and chicken. Both were tender and delish. The lunch formula is copious and varied, and in line with prices in the area (17€). There's the standard hummus and baba ghanoush, plus the (too thin) pita wrapped in plastic so as not to harden too quickly. The tomato and parsley salad is good and citrusy, and the beef puff pastries adequate. What bothers me is the service. I understand that businessmen and women frequent this place with clients, and that they want to project the image of an upscale restaurant (look at the valet parking, tablecloths, and velvety red interior), but that is no excuse for treating those without freshly-pressed suits as second-class citizens (we were younger than the average clientele, so perhaps did not reek of money, but were well dressed all the same). After our meal, my colleague and I went to the reception to pay, and waited for a solid ten minutes while the staff conferred over table numbers and tidied the reception area. Then, when the host (I can only assume he was the host, since he was dressed in a suit unlike the waiters) finally printed the bill, he did not hand it to us, but to an older male diner in a suit who had appeared only a minute earlier, and was standing behind us. Another staff member (with whom we had made eye contact on our way to the reception, I might add) hurried over to hand this customer the credit card machine, and it was only after he had graciously ushered him out the door that the two of them turned to help us. Inexcusable. Try the Noura on Avenue Marceau instead. read more

I went for a late night dinner and we were a party of 6. Though we didn't have reservations, they accommodated us within 15 minutes. The food was all delicious! The lentil soup was heavier w cumin that used to but still tasty. Fattoush salad may have been the best ever, they use pomegranate molasses in dressing. Kibbeh, hummus, eggplant salad, fried haloumi, okra, cheese sambousak, falafel, potatoes, and fattoush were all shared and loved by everyone! Sadly they ran out of the fish special but we didn't order until 10pm. The stuffed squash was phenomenal and very authentic, though I typically have it with beef. The chicken kabob skewers was one of the best dishes that we ate. Extremely tender and flavorful. Yes, it's a little pricey but considering it's situated next to two of incredibly expensive avenues, it's expected. My only complaint would be how warm it was in the restaurant. Very bad experience in this restaurant, prices are extremely expensive i am lebanese and i am saying it , its the worst experience i ever had in my life i waited 25 mins just waiting a guest to leave so i can take his place we were 2 adult and baby and they dont let us seat on a 4 seats table and the restaurant was almost empty after long wait we went to the corner table ,service was so bad and just dinner for 2 costs 122,50Euros and when i went home checking my online statement i found they charged my card 144.80Euros I seriously don't understand why but anyway i don't recommend this restaurant at all. read more

Without a doubt an awful experience and the worst in Paris. Sub standard food and bad service with high prices is a perfect recipe for an awful experience. Waiter did not speak English, can understand that but at least make an attempt to be helpful. Never asked even once if everything was ok and if they could be of assistance. Writing after a Nexium and Alka-Seltzer, hopefully I will make the night!! If you want good middle eastern/ Lebanese food there are may restaurants in the Latin Quarter without the overhead and much better or go to London. Nice and a bit upscale in a nice but overpriced restaurant district. Al Jami is no exception. Solid enjoyable Lebanese food but for a straight forward meal of one which included a salad a yogurt dish and a mixed kabob plate was with tea and a Perrier 62€.
