One of the best steakhouse experiences you can encounter in the West. Sorta odd that it is away…read morefrom downtown and out in the shopping suburbs but that also means the clientele is just not dominated by suits and the rest of us can relish the fine service and food. When I visit a classic western steakhouse, I do NOT want the frills of the east. Please. But I do want a western theme interior, friendly faces and service, and generous servings of awesome food. Morrie's delivers on every level. What a great experience! First I liked the family portraits when you walked in. Like in the Big Easy, you know that means that here's a place that takes pride in tradition. Prompt and friendly service came next--GREAT classic old fashioneds. Appetizers, off the charts. We thought the Onion Rings were among the best we have ever had. Brussels sprouts, the same. So impressive. The New York strip--certainly among the top five of all time for me. Do add the onions and peppers, just another layer of great flavor. What is really wonderful is that the beef is locally sourced, from ranches in Nebraska and South Dakota. The pride of local markets really comes through, and makes. A. Difference. Sides? Yes. The root veggies are excellent but always order the chorizo hash browns. They are rich and thankfully they have a bit of a kick. They are filling--but hey box what's left and have for breakfast the next morning. My western trips will now include an overnight at Sioux Falls--that's how special Morrie's is.

Service was good, and our server was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up…read moreto the recommendation. I ordered the walleye, and it was very average--nothing memorable or worth the price. It felt like a run-of-the-mill dish that I could get at many other restaurants. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was a strong sewer/trap smell near the entrance, which wasn't the best first impression. While the odor didn't seem to carry throughout the entire restaurant, it was noticeable enough to stand out. The tap beer was also served much warmer than expected, which was disappointing for a steakhouse of this caliber. Overall, the service was the highlight of the evening, but the food, warm beer, and less-than-ideal first impression left us underwhelmed and feeling that the experience didn't justify the price.
