This restaurant has to be one of the best deals I have found among sushi restaurants in Germany. Fresh quality sushi and very good pricing. As other reviewers have mentioned, Akemi offers all-you-can-eat buffets and 30% off regular dishes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The pricing before the discount is already quite reasonable, so the discount is quite generous. My husband and I ordered drinks and two large platters and ended up spending 33 Euro before tip. This is a fantastic deal for good sushi in Europe, and this Tues/Thurs 30% discount also applies for takeout orders- another plus.
I read some of the previous reviews of this restaurant, and it seems a few of the negative reviews were written by those who are not familiar with sushi. I've been to some of the best sushi restaurants in the States and would have to say that although Akemi is not the most extraordinary place I've been to, it is one of the best places I've seen in Cologne and thus deserves five stars in my opinion. The restaurant is small, but the atmosphere is nice and could be recommended for both a casual meal or a nice date. I appreciated the wall art and simple touches- lotus flower votive holders and leaf-shaped platters.
My husband and I actually went for an informal Valentine's Day date and enjoyed the Valentine's Day platter, complete with heart-shaped sushi. We ordered the iced mango matcha drink and the matchaccino, which came hot and foamy and in a bowl. Another bonus was the music; I'm a fan of classical music, which may not be to everyone's taste, but in my opinion, it set a lovely and romantic atmosphere.
There is not an extensive variety in specialty rolls, but they do offer some unique dishes, such as sushi pizza. Overall, my husband and I had a nice experience and will most likely be frequenting this restaurant. read more
