The right parts to make my 15+ year old B&S engine run great. Reasonably priced too. My lawnmower engine started surging 4 or 5 weeks ago. A common issue is a carb diaphragm, which I got at Ace. While replacing that item, I found the intake manifold pipe was broken. I went through 3 companies before I found AJ's with the right part. Now the engine runs good as new. read more

These guys are total shysters. First they wanted $21 for one lawnmower air filter for my Toro. I bought a 2 pack on Amazon for $5. Then they wanted a $50 "deposit" before a $69 "tune up". They looked at my lawnmower and said the body of the lawnmower was cracked, which it was. They kept my deposit. Real A-holes. Avoid. One star is too many read more

Mark was so helpful, went out of his way to help me, and very nice and knowledgeable. Excellent service.

I brought in a snowblower for warranty repair and found that Becky had to fight with Briggs & Stratton to get the repair done under warranty. It took almost 2 months of back and forth to finally get B&S to approve it. It took another month for them to get the part to replace. All the while I was kept up on status. Highly recommend them for quality service. Advice: keep any paperwork to prove warranty status, and ask a service/repair center for recommendations of quality products and brands who stand behind their products. read more

This place sucks !! After working with them for five years we needed service again! Called / they were rude from the beginning/ then after 2 weeks of waiting, with no update/ the guy called and was rude again! I understand they are busy / but act like a professional!! read more

Beware of these guys!!! I took my Toro snowblower to them January 20, 2024, got it back late February. Didn't even use it because we didn't have snow after I picked it up. I go to start it this year...finally get it started, runs for a minute or two and then dies. I called them up they say bring it in, the only catch is they want $50 more to take a look at it. I just spent $230 for a major tuneup. Are you kidding me? This place is terrible, will never go back to them and I will make sure that I tell everybody that I know to never go to them. read more

My snow blower was serviced for the winter and it turned out working and looking brand new! Thank you!

Took a Generator for broken pull starter. Pd 48.xx for diagnosis. Est. Came back over 550.xx . Picked it up and repaired elsewhere for 150.xx. only needed 1 thing and they estimated carb , filters, plugs, oil, etc which was not needed. Machine only had 48 hrs use. read more

RIP OFF!! 700% mark-up!! I wanted a fuel filter for a Lawn mower we bought at AJ's. They charged me Seven Thirty Three for a single fuel filter that Amazon has listed at ten for Nine Ninety Eight. That would be price gouging to the extremes. They have so many bad reviews that they obviously just don't care. Shady business! Deserves to go away. read more

HORRIBLE!!! After 4 weeks of lies about why my mower was not repaired I went to pick it up. It was in pieces! The owner was on a Bipolar high. Condescending, rude and had no answer as to why they had the mower 4 weeks and it was all apart! I can not understand why anybody would ever give them any work at all. Worst ever! Stay away, this guy is out of it. read more

"Tuned up" lawnmower came back with no oil and bald tires. The mower was given to us by my parents so I hadn't seen it prior to going to AJ's. Went from their house directly to AJ's for a tune-up along with a generator using their pickup service. When we got it back, I luckily checked the oil prior to running it for the first time and there was barely a reading on the dipstick. I had to add oil. Additionally, the front tires were literally bald, and one was cracked down the middle. Being a self-propelled mower, the tires do affect the performance. I understand they won't automatically replace everything, but I would expect a call letting me know about the tires and asking if I wanted them replaced. They sure called when they wanted to replace parts on our generator!! Given the lack of quality service on our lawnmower I wonder if they even did anything to our generator or just charged me for phantom service. In any case, now I have to find someone to replace the tires. I did call them about these things and was basically blown off. read more

I had to have a repair to my mower deck and tried to send a picture of the problem to get a ball park figure amount for the repairs...they were having nothing to do with that. So I went down the street to the other guy and had it fixed there. I'm not sure why the customer relationship has gone down hill at AJ's but I will no do business there again. read more

Horrible customer service, he was calling me a liar even though his son told me it was just a fuel line issue and kept talking to me in a condescending way and wouldn't let me get a word in and kept cutting me off, I didn't appreciate the way I was being treated so I took my money and left read more

A couple of weeks ago I started my snow blower and ran it for a minute. When we got this larger snow fall this past week I went to the garage to start my snow blower, but it wouldn't start. I looked for small engine repair places in my area and found A J Lawnmower on St. Charles Road in Villa Park, so I brought in my snowblower on a Tuesday and explained the problem. They said it would take a week. I called the following Monday and they hadn't started on it yet. No problem. With the snow they probably had a lot of business. I talked to them the next day and they said it would cost $200 to repair, citing it needed a new carburetor and belt. I'm not a small engine repair technician, but I've been around enough mini-bikes, lawn mowers and snow blowers to know that gas left in the tank at the end of the season can be a problem. You either run it dry, or add Stabil, so the gas in the carburetor doesn't turn to varnish. Why a new carburetor? It had just run a couple of weeks ago! Why not remove the carburetor and soak it in a solution to dissolve any sediment? So, I think they took the easy way out by putting in a new carburetor (they didn't show me the old one when I picked it up saying it had already been recycled. The replacement of the belt I totally agree with. I spoke to a guy there who seemed bothered by my phone call with an attitude of disdain having to talk to a customer. In closing, the machine is working fine, but the repair cost half as much as I paid to buy it. This business should have been trying to help a customer. Now they've got a bad Yelp review and a past customer who's going to bring up what happened to anyone needing small engine repair. read more

My is experience was bad and condescending This company, after I declined a $300 estimate for repair . They give me a different lawnmower when I returned to pick up my mower , it's the wrong color and has a busted engine . But , as they said it's my claim ticket # / maybe I was the wrong color read more

I own a small business. Last year one of my machines had a catastrophic problem. I called Andy and he said bring in right in. He stopped everything he was doing to get me repaired and back to work. Instead of loosing a full days work, I was able to get my jobs done for the day. When he billed me he didn't take advantage of my disposition, it was a normal rate. A big thank you to Andy and his group, great people. read more

Purchased my very first snow blower from AJ's. I had the pleasure of working with Anthony and he provided exceptional service. Anthony went over the different models based on my needs and even went over what maintenance is needed and when. Best part, Anthony personally delivered the snow blower, filled it with gas, and showed me how to start and operate. I will definitely recommend AJ's moving forward. And being a new homeowner in Villa Park, I know exactly where I will go from here on out! read more

Have had my lawnmower repaired here and my snow blower gone over before winter, Always done quickly and at a reasonable price.

With prices so high for replacing lawnmowers and snow blowers, it makes sense to get older items repaired or maintained. This is the best place to go. They are fairly-priced, friendly, helpful, and quick. Go here! read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. They scam people. DO NOT buy here. Unhelpful and impolite. Tried to support local business. Will not support this one. read more

I dropped my mower off Monday morning before they opened because like most normal Americans, I can't afford to take a day off of work to take my mower in. I put a note on the mower for them to give me a call. They didn't call me Monday morning so I called them and was told that they would get back to me in a couple of days So, here it is Saturday, I still haven't received a call back, so I head over there to pick it up and take my business elsewhere. They guy tells me that it's going to cost more to repair then I paid for it so I'm like fine, I'll just take my mower back and go buy a new one. So, he proceeds to tell me it's $35 for the inspection. He never told me on the first call anything about a charge to look over the mower and give an estimate. They refused to give me my mower back unless I paid the estimate charge. You can't tell a customer a couple days and expect them to know you meant a week. You can't not even call them to begin with. You can't charge an estimate fee without letting them know up front about it. Bad business practices on many, many fronts. read more

I took my lawn mower and snow blowers for years to them for usual maintenance and winterization. In my last and final trip there I pulled out my lawn mower in spring. It would not start. I called for help and received a gentleman w a bad attitude. No help from him. Upon further inspection of my unit I noticed it was missing a spark plug. It was never tested. I called back and same gentleman accused me of taking out the $5 spark plug. Really? Never again. read more

New to the neighborhood, I took my old Sears lawnmower in for a spring service at AJs. $93 seemed a bit steep, but it needed a new fuel line. However, a few weeks later, the gas and oil started leaking out the carburetor. I brought it back, and a week later I had a new carburetor and a hefty bill. Apparently the labor alone to replace a carburetor is $73 (with parts the bill ran upwards of $130) after either missing or causing the leak a few weeks prior during my service. No negotiation on the price, just a condescending remark about not leaving gas in the machine over the winter. TLDR: One star mostly for the attitude, but also the long repair time, and the excessively high cost. These guys don't stand behind their work, so save yourself a headache and some money and take your machine somewhere else. read more

They fixed my lown mower and it works like new, they ware nice and explain everything, price was responsible. Will definitely recommend. read more

STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY! They will tell you one price for a repair and then want to charge you almost double. I took my lawnmower in because it was not cutting right. Owner's wife said it probably needs a tune up. So I left it with them. A few days later I purchased a new Honda lawnmower from them on their recommendations. The new one does not turn well. It keeps digging in the lawn every time I turn it. I only used it twice so far. So almost two weeks go by since I dropped off my mower and they finally call with an estimate. From expecting a bill of around 130 dollars like the owners's wife had said, to 195! He said the reason it does not cut well is I have a bent blade. I told him I bought new blades last season on his recommendation why my grass was not cutting well. He said last year they were worn out. Never did he offer to say since you bought new ones last year, I can take care of that. Instead he tells me I must have run something over. So if my problem last year was not cutting well, now my problem is its still not cutting well, and all you can offer is to tell me my blade is bent that's why its not cutting well? Why do I need a tune up? SCAM ARTISTS! Also he told me the new mower has a warranty so bring it in and they will take a look. ITS 2 WEEKS OLD! I should not have any issues. I am calling Honda and I hope they pull their dealership from them. read more

I'm reading reviews on here, I can't believe these are legit. I I've been here many times, lastly to have a carburetor from my power washer rebuilt. Fantastic job, and extremely fairly priced. I bought a new Toro lawn mower here, again i did my homework and there price was competitive, I would much rather support a mom and pop shop, then these big chain stores. I will continue to support this store! read more

They have bad reviews here but I like them. I have been bringing my lawn equipment here for years.

Description of service is poor at best. Dropped off a pressure washer Saturday with being told it would only be a two day job. After three days and no communication, I placed a call an hour before closing. I was told they could not give me an answer over the phone and someone would have to go back and check on the status and call me back. (It's a two person operation in a very small building(?)). No call back yesterday and no call all day today. An hour before close today I was fortunate to speak to someone to find out the cost was much higher than originally communicated. In trying to voice my dissatisfaction with service and communication, they hung up! $80 later, a unit in the same condition as when I brought it in 5 days ago and an exhorbitant cost to repair that was still communicated to not be the final price- it could be plus or minus 10%. Google provides 5 put of 10 poor reviews. The responses to those reviews all provide a generic "we appreciate the feedback..." but never is there offer to address the poor customer service- for a business in the customer service industry(?). read more

I brought my Toro snowblower to be repaired once in 2014 and this year as well. I was charged $200 to put a brand-new carburetor into the snowblower. This year the snowblower would not start again so I brought the machine back to them. They charge me $110 to rebuild the same carburetor that they had just put in. Supposedly it was bad gas that destroyed the carburetor even though I followed all directions as to how to prevent a carburetor from being damaged in the future from AJ Lanmower. They don't stand behind their work and they are willing to even give me a break on the second bill. I would advise going to someone who has better customer service and will stand behind their work. read more

Friendly staff, but ask for quotes up front. The "deposit" is actually the service charge for an evaluation that will be applied to any repairs, but not refunded if repairs are to costly and you refuse the repairs. read more

We called prior to taking our lawnmower in for service and were given a price for a general tuneup with additional services and parts beyond the tuneup being extra. The general tuneup price was reasonable so we took our lawnmower in. After 2 weeks of not hearing back from this company, we called then and learned that our lawnmower was ready and they had performed an additional $50 work to the lawnmower without our authorization. I don't know when they had planned to call to let us know it was ready, but they certainly didn't call to recommend or ask us about any additional charges. Our options were to pay it anyway or give them the lawnmower, which is ridiculous. Any responsible business would contact the customer and authorize additional work prior to performing it. I would not recommend this business and clearly consider this a scam. I will be contacting the better business bureau and also filing a complaint with out local chamber of commerce, if they are a member. I would not recommend this business unless you like to pay for unauthorized fees. read more

Please stay away from this place, their prices are high and AJ and the woman at the counter are very rude and arrogant. I have been doing business with AJ's for about 12 years now. I have not once been disappointed in the service. The cost of parts and labor I find reasonable. They have worked on all 9 pieces of my equipment over the years keeping them in good running condition. My Scag out front rider is now 32 years old and still in very good working order, because of their service.i get great service and more than reasonable turn over times. On occasion they have gone out of their way too solve an equipment problem. Terrible, unprofessional service. I dropped off my mower because the automatic drive wasn't working, but also to have it checked over since I hadn't used it in quite a while. They left me a message saying it needed additional work and to call them to discuss and authorize it. They went ahead and did the repairs without me calling back. When I picked it up I assumed it was all fixed and good to go, but when I went to use it, it still had problems. I called and was told that it was noted on the paperwork given to me when I picked it up that it needed some more work. Perhaps I should have looked at it more closely, but I think a professional company would have mentioned it. When I called, we argued back and forth as I was frustrated since I had no way of bringing it back. They said they would pick it up, then when I asked them to he told me to "use nice words", like I was a three year old. I left a message for the person supposedly in charge of pick-ups, but she never called back. Again, totally unreliable and unprofessional. read more

I have used Ajs's Lawnmower service several times. Each time they provide high quality service to fix my lawnmower. Don't wast your time going here, the owner is very rude, they charge to much, and they couldn't even help me to replace a simple fan belt for my snowblower, pretty bad for a business that specializes in repairing lawn mowers and snow blowers.
