This is the sushi deluxe for $26 you get nine pieces of nigiri and a tuna avocado roll. This was about as fine as fine can be. Nothing wrong here at all. It's not expensive so you know you're going to get a lot of white fish was happy to get some quality salmon and tuna. Nothing special though obviously. And you probably shouldn't expect that at this price point, Roll was fine. Pieces were actually well sized, the rice was warm and well seasoned. Their ponzu sauce was delicious as was their miso soup. But this ain't going to blow anyone away and if you're looking for special this may fall flat for you if you're literally just looking for some affordable quality nigiri you won't go wrong here. read more

I've been to this place multiple times. There lunch deals are great for the area. I always find the 3 roll set a great bang for buck to share with people. The bentos are also quite filling. It gets crowded really quickly so you might want to try to get there quickly. read more

One of the few places open after 9 pm that served sushi close to my hotel. The ambience is very pleasant and comfortable, which made me feel relaxed after a long day over hot tea and not a drink. Came here for lunch since I was in the area for coffee. Turns out they have great lunch specials. My friend got their chicken katsu bento boxes and I got their Aji Special. Mine was $18.50 and it came with a side of salad or miso soup. The dressing was okay on my salad. I don't like when restaurants make rolls with a thick rice layer. At Aji, my friend and I both commented how the rice to ingredient ratio was good as the rolls had a thin layer of rice. The fish was pretty fresh and I think the portion size was appropriate since I was satiated but not stuffed. We were seated by the window which is a cute little section of the restaurant. The seating can be a bit tight as the tables are a bit close together. Around the time we went, they got people in and out pretty quickly so I'd say it's a pretty good lunch spot. read more

I will NEVER order from here again! Food is okay - no complaints - and delivery is fast and friendly. Totally good. Tonight i ordered and got email conformations but after 30- 40 min no delivery so called to see what was up. Had to leave a msg - no call back. At the 1 hr mark i called again and no answer - not even the machine. I called the delivery platform (door dash) and was told my order had been cancelled! Something wrong in payment system. This woman who runs the place had not bothered to let me know she cancelled my order - i could have given her a card number over the phone - but no, she was fine with my sitting and waiting for an hour for food that was not coming. The restaurant got paid and she hadn't bothered to refund the money either. Door Dash customer service did that for me. With many other restaurants around - including Japanese - there is absolutely NO REASON TO EVER ORDER FROM HERE AGAIN. read more

For several years Aji used to be my "go to" sushi place for takeout until recently. The food used to be consistent good and reasonably priced. Last few of times we ordered from there the spicy tuna rolls were rancid and inedible. We always order the same thing, so we do know what to expect. The last few times we ordered the spicy tuna rolls had a rotten and overpowering fishy taste where we had to spit it out and throw it away. I called the restaurant to complain about it and the man who answered apologized and said he would refund us the price of the rolls. He never did. Long time customer who will not be ordering from here anymore. read more

This might be my new go-to takeout sushi spot in my neighborhood. I placed an order on GrubHub, which was very easy. I started with the seaweed salad and also got the kiss of fire and spicy crunchy salmon rolls. Both were very filling, and the kiss of fire roll was awesome! My friend ordered a few different variations of tuna rolls and loved them all. Great portion sizes for the values, and our order was dropped off within 20 mins of placing it. read more

Note that is was through a Seamless delivery. The anticipated time for arrival of the delivery during lunch hours was around 45 minutes but it was delivered well within 30 mins. I did the lunch special; 3 rolls for $15. I ordered a Salmon Avocado roll, Spicy Crunchy Tuna roll, and a Shrimp Tempura roll. Nothing was out of the ordinary and subpar. This is your average takeout sushi at a very affordable price. I enjoyed the decent amounts of protein that is packed in each roll. My only issues are the shrimp tempura and the sushi rice. The tempura was not crispy at all. It was as if it was cooked hours prior and was just reheated in the microwave for my order. The sushi rice was just plain rice. I guess I am used to the slight taste of vinegar from my other regular sushi joints. Decent experience overall. read more

Service was prompt and kind. I got the miso soup and veggie gyoza to start. Both quite good, nothing memorable but solid. I then ordered a littany of veggie rolls (I'm veg) and would HIGHLY recommend the futomaki. It's so well balanced, texturally amazing, large, compact, well-presented, probably one of the best futos I've had. The other veggie rolls were very good too, but I give the nod to the futomaki! Given I have a golden rule of, if something is possibly the best you've ever had of that thing (eg futomaki), it gets a 5, I give Aji a 5. Thanks aji team! read more

Damn. No joke just found a STAPLE in my sushi. I ordered take out and while ingesting my spicy tuna roll I noticed something really hard in my roll. I spit it out thinking it might be a bone but NO it was a staple. How in the heavens and hells did a STAPLE end up in my sushi?!?!? I really just want to know. After a very long and annoying night of looking for sushi bars that weren't either closed or crowded we arrived at Aji Sushi. The sushi was good, but pricey. * The real issue was the service. We were rushed to order and our bill was brought out with our food. WITH OUR FOOD. As we started eating, the waitress asked if we could pay, even though it was almost an hour before closing. What a neighborhood gem! The staff is friendly, ambiance is casual, clean and comfortable. And finally the food is made with fresh ingredients. We ordered chef's choice Sashimi and Sushi for 2 and we ordered a couple of rolls (avocado) for my little son. Had a great experience with Aji Sushi in NYC. This spot really stands out for its fresh, high-quality fish and relaxed neighborhood sushi atmosphere. I'm a sushi lover, I order sushi 3 times in a week at my office for dinner or late afternoon ,about AJI 3 times I order in this place , no good it all the experience. If you order a Sushi Deluxe at night (perhaps over-expensive for the quality and size you get) they don't give you a simple salad or Miso soup as a complement. I tip the deliver guy first time 3 dollars, the second time 4 and the third time 5 and he had attitude about the tip ...how much I suppose to tip you Chinese boy for make you happy if the order was $20 and I don't get a soup?? read more

I typically order from here but lately they have gotten quite stingy -- today I called to get a chicken negimaki meal and when I asked that they make sure to include the soy sauce they informed me that there was a 50c charge given that "negimaki doesn't come with soy sauce." The whole thing was so laughable but I wasn't as amused when it didn't arrive for over 45min. Slow service at times, food is good but I would go somewhere where they actually value your business. My friends & I order frequently. I always get RAINBoW ROLL. There were BONES in my sushi! In the white fish (fluke?) on both ends of the roll; big bones. I thought I cracked a tooth! Previously, the FLUKE tasted bad. We called but the woman who answered just said she'd tell the sushi makers. No compensation offered. Never in my decades of eating sushi here & in Japan, have I ever bitten into hard bones! This tells me they are not true sushi chefs. Absolutely amazing food - after 5 yers in Tokyo this is my favorite sushi restaurant in NYC The quality of fish is high! The service is friendly. Ambiance - very cosy! The menu had a whole bunch of variety to choose from. The rolls I had were the Pink Lady and Triplets. The rolls were very delicious and the fish were fresh and not fishy at all. From the freshness of the ingredients to the precise temperature of the rice, every bite was thoughtfully executed and full of intention. The entire experience felt deeply personal and curated just for us--because it was. The dining counter is a bit tightly grouped around the chefs with all the ingredients stacked in front. Behind on the wall is a large map of the world showing the names and locations/sources of ingredients and lists names in Japanese (romanized) and English. For parties who brought drinks, the staff provided ice buckets to keep them chilled (if needed) and appropriate glassware and also handled pouring. They were all very nice and efficient. The chefs were friendly and easy to talk to about the courses and enthusiastic about answering any questions. There is 1 chef to about 4 guests which makes for a relatively fast omakase experience as well. I definitely get neighborhood, casual vibes dining here, though it never felt rushed. As for the omakase, it's $125/$130pp for 12 courses excluding app/miso. They also have an add-on menu for pieces at the end including off-menu items or can reorder prior pieces. The rice is a a bit unique - quite loose compared to most places I've been but not to the point of breaking apart and every course held together easily. The fish was overall good but did taste inconsistent in freshness - the highlights were the anago, triple x, handroll, ankimo, and mackerel, however other pieces like scallop tasted a bit bland. Unfortunately no uni was available during my meal. For the price I think Tanoshi is a great value for the omakase and experience. It's not necessarily upscale or geared towards serving luxury ingredients but it focused on sushi at its core - simplicity, efficient service, good vibes and accommodating/consideration towards diners.
