Ordered delivery from here and it was amazing! The presentation was beautiful, the order came quickly and the miso soup was still warm. What's not to love? I am obsessed with the box the sushi came in.

I came here for Valentine's Day night with my partner and we had such a great time! We had a reservation, and were led to our table immediately. Service was busy, but they were attentive of us. Inside has lots of seating despite the smaller space, and it is very clean. We placed our order and every item was delicious! The sushi was so fresh and melts in your mouth. We also got the skinny spicy tuna roll, and that was one of the best rolls I have ever had. The Box of Dreams had our best bites, I love all of the items. There are no bad options here, and I enjoyed our experience immensely!

Sushi Box of Dreams

Ordered the "Box of Dreams". I enjoyed all 9 bowls. My favorite was the uni & caviar. The meal is very filling. It was a bit confusing the best way to eat. I was uncertain whether to eat out of the box or to take the bowl out or to put on a plate. I opted for taking bowl out of the box and eating from bowl. I did see the girl next to me at the sushi counter laying it out on a plate. I also had the Kuri Yokan for dessert. A very enjoyable lunch. I would like to return and try the sushi deluxe. The ambience is very classic.

I've had this for lunch (takeout) a few times and honestly, it's always a deliciously luxe meal. For myself this time I ordered the Box of Dreams set: $51-it's a limited edition takeout menu option that offers 9 mini bowls of beautifully assorted bites of raw and cooked delicacies. Delivery within midtown was VERY fast--faster than the estimated delivery time. My favorites were the uni, scallop, and fatty tuna but they were all great. Next time--dine in!

I came here for lunch with a few friends on a Friday. It's crazy how busy it gets! I got the Sushi Lunch "Nami" and picked the Spicy Salmon and Yellowtail Scallion rolls. The sushi overall was yummy and good quality. Service was also quick!

It's been years since I've been back but I absolutely love Hatsuhana! The service is wonderful, our water was replenished very frequently and quickly as well. We sat downstairs but they have seating upstairs too. The box of dreams was absolutely delicious. Fish was fresh and I love that they use real wasabi. The yuzu sauce that is present in some of the bowls was phenomenal, tangy and had a pleasant citrus flavor that paired nicely. Their rice is so so good. Not mushy and lightly seasoned, allowing for the fish to shine through. The ankimo (monkfish liver) was firm, light in flavor but a great vehicle for the tangy sauce! It is a great place for a date - quiet and allows for conversation to flow! Definitely recommend making a reservation as they fill up quick too! Only cons are the hours, it's closed on the weekends but definitely worth a try!

First off. I think it would be good to come here with someone who has been here before. We love sushi but the menu is a little hard to decipher. Very open and lots of seating. We made a reservation day of at the sushi bar. (Which I would recommend) Sitting there is so fun and you get to see what other people order and or are enjoying. We got the yellow tail jalapeño appetizer and the fish was so good. Looks wise. If you eat with your eyes. Not so much. I expected it to be better. We ordered the three rolls from the roll menu. And all of those were delicious and we got the avocado roll. Also amazing. The most popular order that we could see were the boxes and a wooden bowl. Overall. The fish was so good and the sushi chef was interactive and entertained our questions about what everything was. But. Would I go back- unsure.

This Japanese restaurant is famous so you definitely need a reservation. It's a two level restaurant but gets packed quickly during prime time. Their sushi box sampler is a must try! Plenty of portion for the price and sushi is so fresh. They don't add so much rice and fish is generously cut. Staff are friendly and quick so perfect for those who love quick lunch.

Very tasty sushi! Great for a more casual dinner. I came with my sister and aunt and everything we tried was very good. We started with the shishito peppers, agedashi tofu and the crab (the appetizer special). I love the chewy texture of the exterior of the tofu. The crab was well fried- not too heavy. They served us green tea which is definitely more flavorful than your average green tea. I tried the salmon mother and child donburi and the box of fantasies. The fish is very fresh. The box of fantasies is stunning. Quite a lot of food. Almost too beautiful to eat... almost* For desserts we ordered one of the green tea desserts and an ube dessert. I like how light and refreshing these were as I was rather full from the sushi. The mochi was delightfully chewy. Overall, I would highly recommend Hatsuhana and will be returning!

Spicy Tuna Roll and Shrimp Tempura Roll

Really delicious sushi! It has an old school vibe. It's not open on weekends. We were staying across the street and in my research I had come across Hatsuhana, so we had to have dinner here. We made a reservation about 30 mins before we wanted to walk across the street to eat. It worked out perfectly. The host was friendly and we were seated downstairs right away. Our waiter was super helpful and friendly. All of the staff were super attentive. Our cups were constantly being refilled. We ordered the edamame which was really good. Perfectly salted. I ordered the Sushi Hatsuhana "Pick 10." There is a special list of types of fish you can pick from for the Pick 10. I got 2 pieces of 3 types of tuna and 2 types of salmon along with the spicy tuna roll. It was so good. The fish melted in my mouth. The spicy tuna roll was perfectly spicy. I really liked each piece of sushi. So flavorful. My husband ordered the spicy tuna roll and the shrimp tempura roll. He really liked both of them too. His favorite was the shrimp tempura roll, but they were both really good. We loved the hot towel and hot green tea after the meal. It was reasonably priced compared to other sushi places in Manhattan. Would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious and high quality sushi in Midtown East.

"Box of Dreams"...exquisite!

A shining star among the trendy sushi upstarts proliferating in New York City these days, Hatsuhana has been serving up delicious sushi since 1976 (back when there were very few competitors), and still going strong today. I have fond memories of festive times there with my generous Japanese managers, who treated the department to meals on a regular basis. After a 20+ year hiatus I returned for an omakase sushi dinner at the upstairs counter. The decor was just as I remember it (homey and simple), so nice to see that! I chose the premium 18 piece sushi dinner; the selection and quality of fish was wonderful, including Edo classics like golden eye snapper, red mackerel, ultra creamy uni and ikura. Our chef was friendly and sincere. Reservations are recommended, especially for the upstairs counter seats and busy lunch times. Hatsuhana offers a wide variety of options other than omakase including "Box of Dreams" sushi/sashimi, tuna only meals and crunchy tempura. They have a nice selection of well priced sake and wines as well. I won't wait so long to return this time.

Sushi Deluxe "Matsu"

Came for lunch and this place did not disappoint! They have so many unique lunch special combinations and I can't wait to come back and try some more. The service was phenomenal and truly felt like a Michelin star experience. The sushi was extremely fresh and flavorful! Make sure if you don't love wasabi you let them know because of course there is some in each bite and it is HOT.

Box of dreams

Came here with dinner reservations and enjoyed it! I was able to make reservations the day of and they texted me to confirm. When I arrived, I was greeted warmly and our table was ready. The overall ambiance is super nice, warm, and authentically Japanese. Service was excellent - the waitstaff was very kind and refilled our waters quickly. Food came out at a decent pace. The food itself was great. So fresh and flavorful, and presented beautifully.

Will they modify the box of dreams, if I don't eat eel + shellfish? thx!

Yes! They will modify whatever you don't want/don't like from the box!! Just let them know to sub/replace!!

Is there music / are there speakers in the restaurant?

No music

How long is the omakase seating?

It is highly dependent on the situation, but generally, it will take around one hour. If the chefs can get to your order right away guests have been done in less than 45 minutes. During peak hours when the restaurant is slammed, it may take over 1.5… Read more

Do you do BYOB?

This is a high end Japanese restaurant. They have great selection of sake.

Is the wasabi made from Japanese ingredients?

It is the real wasabi. Not the ground green-colored horseradish.

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.

They share a takeout menu and it's super easy to order--text what you want to the phone number on the website and pickup in ~20 minutes :). You pay on a handheld and they don't ask for tip for takeout. I love this process and truly wish more sushi restaurants in LA adopt the takeout box. The only one I know of is hefty but also $200 each lol, making Sanyuu's $69 omakase and $78 Everything don, not to mention the $30 giant salmon nigiri set, A STEAL! I enjoyed most of the pieces but I will say I don't like their amaebi or uni at all. I'm not sure what kind of uni is used here but it's the type with a very strong mineral flavor & aftertaste that I don't find enjoyable. We're spoiled by easy access to live spot prawns everywhere and fresh SB uni. Despite this, I wouldn't hesitate to come back if I lived in the city.

The slices aren't thin, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth as one usually gets in a sit down; they are extra thick, and I had to really bite down on some of the pieces. The rice was nicely seasoned and was cooked well + portions are also big to match those thiccccc salmon slices. To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived. The restaurant is a little hard to find as the windows are blinded and the sign is a piece of paper on the door.
