*AJ is A-Okay* Found this cute & modest Asian Market on Yelp while searching for Japanese grocery stores. Unfortunately, there's none in the Coachella Valley :( I had decided to check out AJ's while in the area and planned a visit on my way back home...and glad I did because even tho I only found one thing to purchase, the owners of this family-owned store were so sweet & kind...and treated me as if I just spent $100 opposed to the $1.89 I actually spent. I even told them "I'm sorry I'm not buying more, but thought I'd maybe find some Japanese food items here" and their thoughtful response was "that's okay, at least you found something." :-) If Filipino & Korean grocery stores is your thing, this is most definitely the right place for you. It's not a large store, but they do a nice job stocking & packing in a wide variety of merchandise in a neat and clean space...and some everyday items too -- all at very reasonable prices. They also carry produce...and from my understanding, they drive into LA 2-3 times a week for the freshest produce they can find to offer to their regular customers. If only they carried some Japanese food items -- I'd make special trips and become a regular too. AJ's is in an unassuming location within an industrial & commercial area, not too far from the PS Airport. There's parking right smack in front so you don't need to walk too far if your shopping spree contents are too heavy. If you're looking for an Asian Market with some hard to find items and very friendly customer service, AJ's is worth the trip and a trot around the bases. Grandslam I'm a Fan. Remember to Support Local.

Great service and has everything I needed for my Japchae! Worth the drive from Palm Desert

I've been watching a cooking series by a great Asian chef on TV. His advice was to visit an Asian market to find the special ingredients that give the dishes their authentic flavors. AJ Market is great! It's an international grocery store. The shelves are stocked with all those wonderful ingredients the chef teaches. The store makes great use of its compact space while remaining friendly and inviting. AJ Market has much better customer service than typical grocery stores. At AJ Market, my request to find one particular ingredient was met by the shopkeeper personally walking me to the right section. You won't find mylar balloons or overblown cardboard displays. Instead you'll find highest quality ingredients that the big stores don't carry. In the past, I could never quite get an Asian dish prepared right. Now thanks to AJ Market I have to the right ingredients to bring a great dish to the table for my family. 5-stars for variety of products. 5-stars for customer service. 5-stars for fair prices. 5-stars overall. Note: The buildings on this block don't face Williams Street. Instead, pull into the parking lot and the entrance faces inside the inner parking courtyard.

I made chicken phó with the ingredients I bought today. Really cheap I spent about $6 for what I needed. Even got extra to stock up.

Love their selection! Always get my spices and ingredients for Phò my favorite chili oil always in stock, if I want to try new things I google ingredients and they always have what I need. They had all my ingredients for kimchi I made. I go at least twice a month because their prices are unbeatable. I love this place. I'm actually going later today. lol

Two thumbs up! For such a small store they have a very large inventory. Many things that can only be found in the PI or VietNam.

Stopped here at Fil Am Oriental Market based on the 4 star ratings on Yelp, but when we walked in…read morethe store, we didn't get that friendly vibes. I can see/sense the look on the owner ( lady) like what are these locals from Hawaii doing here, visiting and checking the store, of course. The reason for visiting was to support local and grab Filipino foods for our late lunch. I can say that the shop is very nice and organized, no plans for grabbing grocery items, noticed the prices are on the higher side, price you pay for Palm Springs. One thing that looked very interesting to me and am afraid to try is the packaged Balut. Nice to see they have Kent Mangoes on the counter for $2.99. We stopped in about 3 pm and the hot food choices didn't look good as the Yelp photos, I was thinking to get a plate to give it a try but the staff said that they sell everything ala carte, hmmm.... I am use to getting plates by 1-2 or 3 items. If we were to go with the food selection at Fil Am, I wouldn't know how many orders to get and how much our total would come out to, see that it can get pricey! I think we all passed and left to go to another biz for our Filipino foods. I would get the Filipino desserts but we all wanted to get out of the store quick since it felt like we weren't welcome in there.

Their bakery and take out food are other excellent choices. I really love when I get their "still warm" packaged soft tortillas. Also their house brand Carmel popcorn is the best I have ever eaten. Everything so far is 5 star. When I factor in the cashier process, that's the reason for 3 stars and I am being generous here. The problem I have noticed is the cashiers frequently ring up wrong item when it comes to produce. If my back would not have been hurting like it was because there were 2 blatant errors on my receipt from today. I bought a 3 pound bag of mandarin oranges that had sale signs posted at $3.99. I was charged $5.99 and if I had known this was the price, I would have simply not purchased the oranges. That's what I do these days if the price seems way out of line, I do without! Then I bought a head of red cabbage and was charged $3 for fresh raspberries. I looked online at their website and it showed $0.89/#. The cabbage I got weighed 2.75 pounds. That's $2.55 extra I donated to Cardenas thanks to the cashier and I don't have funds to donate. It is a small amount but if everyone pays a little extra, I'm sure it adds up for the company and for me it is just the principle of being accurate. Sure, I could use self check out but I hate that to start with and then your machines give attitude that really irritates me. It makes comments I don't need to hear to the effect of "hurry up". Ringing produce is a pain with all those code numbers that most cashiers have to memory. Well I say most but seems like they have high turnover in cashiers and don't have everything committed to memory. Bottom line is to check your receipts and call it out when discrepencies exist.

We liked to look around while we waited for our food. The owner (I assume) was really nice and they took good care of us. My husband got the shawarma fries and thought they were great. The portions are SO BIG for how much they cost. It's very affordable fresh delicious food.
