I've been associated with AISES since my college years (in other words, it's an ancient relationship!) :)
AISES, the American Indians in Science & Engineering Society, is such a vital and important organization for Native American children, students, and professionals in or interested in the sciences.
Natives are small part of the general population, but Natives in the sciences are even more of a minority. The goal of AISES is to help, empower, and guide Native Americans into fields of study and professions in the sciences.
AISES achieves its goals in many ways. AISES groups/chapters are formed on many campuses nationally and these groups are great pillars of support for students. AISES offers a wide network of connections for students with regards to potential universities and employers. AISES helps guide Native students & recent graduates toward summer internships and employment in their areas of study.
The Annual AISES National Conferences, held around October in different cities each year, is a truly inspiring and great event for American Indians in the sciences. There are many workshops, keynote speakers, a career fair, and a pow wow.
Personally, I owe so much to AISES, because I have met many cool friends through the organization, participated in some awesome summer internships, and was inspired to stick it out in the sciences. read more
