As a doctors office, communication is key with your patient. Your job is to heal people, not so…read morethat they need you but so they are able to get to a point of not needing you. I can not recommend a clinic where you walk in expecting to pay your copay, only to be hooked up to various machines, fancy pants "neuro" technology and laser therapy, then be slapped with "sticker shock" at check out. I left this practice crying, frustrated, upset and still in pain. I never returned. This practice needs to learn to communicate why they using a particular method, if it's covered by insurance and the necessity of that method on you. This is not a chiropractor that will actually do any manual adjustments on you, they'll just hook you up to a bunch of various machines and leave you still in pain; thinking you have to come back. This "neuro" chiropractor. All your issues are related to "hotspots" and "nerves." Whatever that means which is so far from any other chiropractor I have been to. I wasn't given any tools of how to help my problem other than buying a foam wedge for my car seat. No explanation of why I had pain where I did and how I can help it in-between visits. I was made to feel that my problem could only be cured with twice weekly or more visits. I felt this clinic just wanted to make money off me, not help.

The staff is incredibly empathetic and caring and worked me in quickly when I called crying in pain with terrible back spasms in late September. Dr. Sims has given me such good education about my back health and how injuries happen, gave me great suggestions to help reduce the pain in those first few weeks, and has taught me numerous stretches and exercises for reducing back pain and strengthening to help PREVENT future back problems along the way. I was scheduled to go on an out-of-state vacation 2 weeks after my initial injury and only because of the care and adjustments I received from Dr. Sims was I able to go on the trip and manage the pain in the process. As back injury recovery is a long process, I was sure I would be the perfect zombie for Halloween because of my ridiculous gait and stiffness when I walked during those early days in October, but I improved steadily within a few weeks and I was able to enjoy a very normal and active Halloween chasing around my 4 year old! Thank you Dr. Sims and staff for helping me to heal and to maintain much better back health in the future. You have been so kind to me in the midst of terrible pain, shared many good laughs, and have given me a level of care and education I didn't even know I needed so badly!!

I have MANY concerns about this clinic…read more My spouse uses this clinic despite my complaints due to his insurance. I've heard this doctor referred to as "the pill doctor." I can see why. As military, my husband as lots of chronic issues related to active duty, but he's not looking for drugs, he's looking for treatment or physical therapy options to keep being in the best shape possible. Appointments are fairly easy to make for the same week. The staff is okay, they seem to be the ones doing the job for Dr. Furniss. You can see the stress in their faces. They take down complaints, they fill out imaging orders or prescriptions and they remind the doctor if he forgot anything. The clinic is very "hurry them in and out." I'm not even sure if Dr. Furniss heard a single thing we said. This is the appointment: Check in. Wait 3 minute. Get called back, complete vitals. Husband has some high blood pressure - it's never been high before. Concern noted for us. Wait alone for 5 minutes. Dr. Furniss walks in and uses his stethoscope. Half listens to my husband explain his 2 concerns while making some sort of wife joke towards me. Dr. Furniss walks out. A few minutes later, nurse walks and says "he wants to do a shot and prescribe steroids, here's a imagining referral. Where do you want the shot?" No information came from the doctor. He got zero history on the injuries or issues. Didn't even touch that the husband came in with high blood pressure or have it rechecked. Heard the request to have the injuries imaged and only provided a slip for one issue, not both of them. I was kinda dumb founded and when asked, the nurse shrugged. What kind of doctor doesn't sit, get a history of the injury, examine it or even do a complete assessment?! I am horribly disappointed in this clinic. I would really like to know how this guy is practicing without even doing his job.

There was no better Doctor that I have ever had in Nacogdoches or Louisiana than Dr. Furniss and…read morehis retirement has just upset me so.... he cares so very much for every one of his patients and goes above and beyond for all of them... now if you choose to look at him as a "pill Dr." i have news for you.... try seeing a pain management dr that only wants to pump you full of narcodicts... he is only try to ease you illness and or pain in small amounts,,,, and frankly no on is forcing you to swallow those pills you don't want to take are they... may you should talk to him and tell him that's not what you are looking for as an answer or for anyone to ease anything you are dealing with, pain or virus or cold or anything else; maybe ask him to try to get to the bottom of your symptoms without trying to treat you. May you want someone to tell you that the "horse" isn't a horse, it's a zebra. I have no idea; but i promise you this, if he hadn't retired i would never ever have left his care and no one else i know would not have either....
