I have always had an active lifestyle. At age 42, I developed pain in the lumbar & sacrum regions…read more The pain worsened over the next year to where my lifestyle changed. I could no longer exercise or perform household tasks. I went to an ortho surgeon, who prescribed 18 PT sessions to strengthen my back/abdomen. The PT released me from therapy because I did not have a lack of strength in my back/abdomen and that my pain must come from elsewhere. So, I went to see a chiropractor and after adjustments, he told me a story. His wife had suffered from chronic back pain. As a doctor himself, he had done research and came across a pain management doctor in the area. He sent his wife to that doctor and after several treatments, she was pain free and had remained pain free to that date. That is how I came to meet Dr. Munir. I made an appointment at Southwest Ohio Pain Institute (SWOPI) and by this time, I was waking up around 3:00 AM in such pain that I could not fall back asleep. I had sleep deprivation and passed out during my first appointment. His staff was excellent and I felt like I was in the right place. This doctor was going to help me. Dr. Munir completed a physical exam and asked questions to understand what triggers the onset of my pain. After a series of evaluations, he informed me that he did not believe it was an issue with my spine, but rather an issue with muscle spasms pulling at my spine, resulting in both muscle & structural pain. Dr. Munir outlined a program, which included steroid shots, a low dose muscle relaxer and a series of stretches to be performed multiple times a day that would target underlying muscles not often reached through traditional stretching. After a few days of following his program, I experienced my first good night of sleep in close to a year. After about a month, I was experiencing about 50% relief, but I wanted to shoot for the stars and get back to my active lifestyle. Dr. Munir suggested adding red light therapy to my program. His studies had shown that when used in conjunction with steroid injections, the red light therapy (performed twice a week for 8 weeks) would add additional pain relief. And he was right, it did. Not 100%, but by that point my pain relief was about 85%. It was well worth the time and the investment. Again, not one to give up or settle for anything less than 100%, I tasked him with finding that additional 15% of pain relief that would allow me to sleep each and every night, perform household tasks and get back to exercising. Dr. Munir suggested radio frequency ablation (RFA) and thus we started on the evaluation process to determine where most of the pain stemmed from. We decided to treat my left side first - it was a rather simple 20 minute procedure, local anesthesia, performed in the office. I walked out and soon realized that my pain was gone. It was 100% gone on my left side with about a 95% improvement on my right side as well! I could immediately tell the difference in muscle tightness from my left side to my right side. I came back in a month to see Dr. Munir for treatment on my right side. By then my life had changed dramatically. I had been going to the gym, I had started running again and lifting weights. I was sleeping through the night - every night - and feeling rested in the morning. My physical state had improved and so had my emotional state. I was ecstatic with the results! I couldn't believe that I'd spent a year seeing different doctors (by the way, I also saw a neurologist, a rheumatologist and got a second opinion with another orthopedic surgeon) and Dr. Munir was only 5-minutes from my house. It has been several months now and I am 100% pain free. I am also free to pursue the things in life that bring me joy. Thank you, Dr. Munir, for taking the time to ask me thorough questions and for spending the time to properly evaluate my physical issues and for developing a treatment program that was unique to me. Thank you for sticking with me and for not brushing me off because there wasn't a glaringly obvious reason for the pain.

I was charged $600 at the time of my initial visit and was told that a future (second) visit was included... $300 for the first and $300 for the next visit. At the time I thought that practice was odd but I didn't complain, expecting to return at a later date. After several cancellations due to personal conflicts and after researching alternative practices and processes, I decided to go in a different (and what I believe is a better direction) to address my health concerns. When I called to request a credit, I was put on hold, the call dropped, I called back and was transferred to another employee only to find out that there was a different understanding of the credit to be provided. After about an hour, I received a callback from Shane the Business Manager about my request. He indicated that I would only be receiving a $200 credit, not $300 as I expected. After much discussion, he indicated that the $200 credit was final and he would issue a check. I told him I did not agree with this decision and explained that I would be providing a review/ complaint about this business practice. I recommended that the staff should explain this business practice with patients before receiving care so this practice it is clearly understood.

In my case after having an MRI my Knee and Hip Orthopedic Doctor referred me to Baptist Pain Management. After a review of those results PA Shauna Wright recommended back relief with a spinal injection. Since I have upper back problems and lower back problems I got to choose which area was my first choice to relieve. I opted for the lower back relief since it remains at a major disabling level. Almost a year ago I was scheduled for an SI Injection by Dr Bauer at the Baptist Eastpoint Surgical Center. Prior to the initial procedure I had a variety of questions come up between my office visit and the surgical procedure. I was able to message Dr Bauer and she immediately answered ALL my questions and put me at ease. On the day of the procedure I got to meet this doctot who is extremely knowledgeable about her area of expertise, caring, competent and has a CALMING bedside manner. I got the two SI injections by Dr Bauer and since I opted to have the procedure with no premedication or sedation I was released to go home about fifteen minutes after getting to recovery. This procedure was a true relief to what had become continual outrageous pain. The relief lasted six months which was longer than relief was predicted. So before we were to travel for the winter holidays I scheduled another appointment with my Pain Management PA. While at that appointment the PA contacted Dr Bauer on my behalf. Dr Bauer was due to start maternity leave shortly. As the caring doctor that she is she agreed to fit my SI injection in as an office visit since I require no premeds or sedation. Once again I experienced wonderful results. Today , five months later I received my pair of SI injections. Dr Bauer and assistants can't be thanked enough for their caring, and professional treatment. I wish I could give you ten stars because five is certainly not enough.

Bauer is a horrible excuse for a doctor CRUEL!

Well, I…read morewent in to learn about spinal injections as I have a several issues that are causing back pain. Apparently the main culprit is my sciatica which enjoys reeking havoc on my body by sending spasms and then causing numbness in my legs. It's pretty bad when you can't bend down, rise from a laying position, and more. I equate the sensation to a turtle on its back desperately trying to flip over and free thy self. Yes, it's kinda comical if you saw the process in the morning with screaming as my back shoots electrical currents rampantly with each movement as I try to remove myself from the mattress. The past treatments have included chiropractic, yoga, and physical therapy which just made it worse or did nothing. Dr. Soin came in after five minutes of sitting in the waiting room you see pictured to explain what was happening. He seemed pretty passionate and sure about the diagnosis and process to getting me back to a more lumbar state. I asked him to clarify my MRI which he did. I was kinda hoping he would throw some images up on that lightboard, but instead he verbally reviewed the injection process in which I asked for more than a Valium to perform as the last SI had me howl in pain and fearful I would move causing permanent damage. So sedation is the ideal scenario in which he will inject me with a steroid to stop that inflamed nerve from it's temper tantrum. In all, he was in the room for less than seven minutes and walked me to the scheduling department to arrange. Since I already know about the process, I didn't have too many questions. It's definitely time for me as I am over the pain and want my mobility back. My goal is to receive an insurance confirmation in the next few weeks that this is greenlighted. This is why I am sitting on four stars as I want to see if the staff can get me approved, scheduled, and then done with success. Until then, I remain in my turtle state. Save the turtle.
