Be careful if you're hiring Air Quality Control Environmental for a serious job. The owner, Mike Dexter, comes across as very knowledgeable, and that's why we trusted him. Most of their good reviews seem to be for smaller jobs. I would not recommend them for anything bigger. We paid them $25,900 to replace our ducts, fix the duct sweating in our attic, and install a dehumidifier. Their own inspection said the sweating was caused by over-tightened straps, unsealed connections, and compressed insulation. They sold us their premium R-8 duct replacement as the fix. After the install, the duct runs themselves stopped sweating, but the insulation was still compressed at the connections, and those connections kept sweating. I assumed a premium R-8 job would include R-8 supply boxes. They installed R-4 and R-6 boxes, and now the boxes sweat heavily too. The boxes were also not sealed to the drywall from the attic side, so hot, humid air leaks in around the vents. They came back several times to fix it. I had to learn how to hold them accountable and show them exactly what needed fixing. I spent more time in my attic than I ever imagined. Each time they added more mastic and tape and told me the compressed insulation at the connections was fine and the work was done right. When they finally rebuilt one run correctly as a test, that run stopped sweating, in the same attic. That tells you the problem was the installation, not the attic. By then the sweating had already caused water damage and mold in our home. I tried to find a solution with them. Instead of owning the mistakes, they offered to redo the work only if I paid for it again. By then I had lost trust in them, so I asked for a partial refund to hire another company to redo the job. They refused. Five other HVAC companies have looked at the work since, and all five recommended redoing it. We have filed complaints with the Florida DBPR and the BBB. I hope this saves someone else from the same experience. read more

They cleaned my nasty disgusting moldy airhandler. They cut open the box above the airhandler, cleaned it out with a HEPA vacuum, exhausting it outdoors, and then used a rubberized fiberglass coating to encapsulate any remaining mold and prevent new mold. They also cleaned the coils. They had a giant HEPA vacuum that looked like R2D2 from Star Wars and it exhausted out of the house to prevent spread of toxic mold spores. They were professional, on time, used a drop cloth to keep floors clean. They were referred to me by my son who is a licensed mold assessor /inspector. Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness Purchased an RGF Reme Halo Air Purifier on 4/26/2018 with a 2 year manufacturers warranty on the Reme Halo bulb/cell. The bulb stopped working on March 18th, 2020 while still under warranty and I requested a replacement under the warranty. I was told by Air Quality Control Environmental that RGF, the manufacturer was backlogged due to the pandemic and I would have to wait until August 2020 for them to inspect and replace the defective cell so I would have to purchase a replacement until RGF could honor the warranty. I purchased a new Reme Halo bulb and told Air Quality Control Environmental that I wanted the bulb when it was replaced by RGF in August. When I called in August I was told to call back in September as nothing had been done and when I called on September 11th, 2020, I was told by an employee, Ann, that the purchase price paid in March of $498.52 would be refunded but my request for the actual cell would not be honored. They would keep the cell and I was told that the owner, Mike Dexter, had to be contacted to approve the check reimbursement and that I should call back within 1 week. Called back on 9/18/2020 only to be told that they were not going to refund the purchase price but $398.52 as they were charging me $100.00 for installation of the new bulb but that amount is not indicated on the purchase receipt so by not returning the replacement bulb under the warranty and charging me $100.00 for installation that is not indicated on the original receipt this company is pocketing an additional $100.00 and keeping my bulb so they can charge someone else the $498.52. I was told the check was written and mailed on the 18th but by Monday 9/21/2020 I had not received it even though I live not more than 2 miles from the business. I called multiple times between 9/21/2020 and 10/5/2020 and still never received the check and was told each time that I called that the owner, Mike Dexter, would return a call but that never happened so I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on 10/5/2020 as Air Quality Control Environmental is a long-standing member to see if they could expedite the check payment and on Wednesday, 10/7/2020, Mike Dexter called screaming and threatening me that he was going to cancel the check because I had contacted the Better Business Bureau to try and get my check. He screamed that he had done everything that I requested and now I should never call his company again and he hung up. I still had not received the check but it came that afternoon and was deposited and I called the BBB to rescind the complaint and made them aware of what had already transpired with Mike Dexter's screaming rant. The check for $398.52 was returned unpaid on 10/9/2020 with a $10.00 return fee and I have now re-written the Better Business Bureau to re-instate my complaint and I will take this matter further as Mr. Dexter has acted in a totally unprofessional manner and evidently does not react well when challenged on his business practices. I returned a defective Reme Halo Bulb/Cell under warranty and expected a new bulb in its place but Mike Dexter decided to keep the bulb so he could pocket an additional $100.00 as a bogus installation charge that is not indicated on the transaction receipt for the bulb/cell that was purchased on 3/20/2020 from Air Quality Control Environmental. To have to wait over 6 months for the warranty claim to be resolved only to have it reversed by a temperamental owner is an egregious action and not in accordance with proper business practice and should definitely not be tolerated by any prospective client of Air Quality Control Environmental. read more

He helped us with a complex air conditioning/duct issue that no other air-conditioning contractor was able to solve. No matter what we did our master bedroom was not cooling down and his out-of-the-box thinking solved our issue and cut our electric bill by 25% . Gabriel was very polite while I had him on the phone, but they did not return my calls multiple times, and they missed both appointments they were scheduled to appear for. So I didn't even get the pleasure of doing business with these fine folks. I am disappointed because this place has rave reviews on Google and Angie's List so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried to work with them, but they just never really bothered to show up to do the job. I called twice on different days and left my information with Gabriel and no one called me back. Finally Gabriel promised to come to my home to look at my air conditioning this morning. He never showed. He called an hour after the fact claiming he had a wrong number (I gave my number to him three different times, and spoke slowly and repeated it to him). So he apologized and promised to make it right and show up at 7 this evening, even though it was after hours for him. I gave him until 7:30 and he still didn't show. When I called him, it went straight to voicemail, so I just cancelled the appointment. Apologies are nice when you know that the other person is working on correcting the issue at hand. We had mold throughout our apartment because our air conditioner was too big for our square footage and we were away for six months. We worked many months cleaning the interior of our apartment. Gabriel and his team were actually pretty great. At first I was a little bit skeptical do the previous comment and the fact that they are a little bit more expensive than other companies I quoted on Yelp, but I felt a lot more secure by the conversation I had with them (a lot more professional) and the fact that they were well referred by another company I talked to, so I decided to give them a try. They actually arrived sooner than my original appointment (they did call me before to ask and explained they had a cancelled client somewhere else) and were very thorough in explaining the service and the specifics of my duct system. The whole service went faster than I expected and in the end they walked me through a few issues I might have due to my old AC equipment being very dirty and without any filters installed. I only wish they could solve those problems too, but at least they referred me to another company who could look into it (the AC also had a small leak). In the end the charged me less than originally quoted, so no complaining here.. :) read more
