No, it is not out of the way at all,…read morebecause one of the nicest rides in the City is along the quay, and it's all downhill from the metro anyway. The cats in here are very copacetic and the rates are cheaper than elsewhere, a good selection of bikes and gear. They donate their profits to help poor kids get into biking. We rent for a week at a time and then forget about the metro and the busses, there is close to 400 km of dedicted bike lanes in Paris. And just toss your bike on a train and head out to the Loire or elsewhere. BUT REMEMBER to look at your dropouts. I didn't, and although I had a patch kit and a pump, I had left my wrenches back in Paris. If the drop outs don't have quick release, ask the guys at Cyclo Pouce to lend you a 15mm spanner. I had to beg one off of different farmers and merchants in Amboise and elsewhere because I was too cheap to go to a hardware store and buy one. But I did expand my French vocabulary to learn the word to tool (Util) and wrench (Cley) and almost the word for 15 (diex plus sanc) or just flap my hands around and speak Spanish with an Italian accent. More often than not the French folks would reply "Pardon me, monsieur, but perhaps do you speak English?"

They have a changing room and you can leave your street clothes there while you ride. I was even given a fresh café at the end of my ride! So good. What a great place to ride. And, for what it's worth, I speak almost no French. I can say "please" and "thank you," and not much more. I was nervous about that.

So, I found Paris Bike Company and set up a ride with Sam, sending him the dimensions of my bike in advance. The original day we'd arranged for was rainy, and he was super-flexible about postponing it a day or two. Once in Malakoff, I easily found his shop and Sam waiting for me. Sam is super-chill and isn't there to kick your butt, but rather lets you set the pace according to your ability (I discovered I'd been eating and drinking a little too much on my trip, so being allowed to set our pace was a good thing). We set off on our ride, him explaining some of the local rules of the road so as to make the trip a safe one. We rode out to Versailles and back, about a 50km round-trip. During the trip, Sam was a great tour guide. If it hadn't been quite so chilly (and I'd been a little better dressed for the cold), I would have gone out for longer. Although it cost a bit to do, having a private two-hour tour of the countryside was one of the best things I did in Paris!

We were here in the Spring of 2024, since we were 90 ish days out from the summer Olympics we didn't get to tour around the Effie Tower area due to the construction in that section. The tour time in total was around 3 hours with a lunch stop in between. Actual time moving was around 45 minutes. We covered around 4.5 miles, well under the 15 kilometers noted on the map at the meet up spot inside Le Peloton Café. Initially we wanted to do the hidden Paris tour the first day we got in town, but instead of booking on line we tried to just show up and see if we could join in person. When we showed up we found out that ride was cancelled since it didn't meet the minimum amount of reservation the day before. So if you're thinking about going in the tour go ahead and book it in advance.

The owner contacted me and said he checked the bike and did find a problem. We have both mountain and road ebikes and very competent in their operation. The owner said he would exchange the bike but that was two hours too late. No refund. Bottom line is that when a company rents an ebike it should be in good working order and not burden the customer with the issues of performance; particularly when there is no physical store or employee to promptly assist.
