I woke up on the 16th of October feeling as if my left thigh was on fire. I have used Piedmont…read moreOrtho Stockbridge before for my neck and shoulders. This was for severe bursitis in my left upper thigh area. I could not get an appt here until Tuesday so had to go to nearby Urgent Care, where a doctor gave me an anti-inflammatory shot and a steroid shot in the butt, then put me on suzetrigine. I was nearly in agony, the pain was so bad. I was actually shaking with pain. All those things helped, but I still had quite a bit of pain when I walked or sat wrong, but it was bearable. Next day I did see an orthopedist at this clinic at 8 AM. I don't know if I can give his name so I'll just say he is Dr. C. He was nice, thorough, and explained things well. Set me up for only two PT visits, the first of which would not be for a week (I saw the PT Ph.D the same afternoon as this visit). In fact, the doctor said it would be "ridiculous" that I would need more. He also put me on Celebrex. BUT--and here is where it started to go downhill--my pharmacy didn't get the Rx until the following day, after 1:30 PM. I called the clinic twice the first day and was told a message had been sent to him. The next day I talked to the lady there who handles meds, and she said the doctor was in surgery but as soon as he got out, she would tell him about the Rx. I also sent a message to him through MyChart. I got a response quickly through that, with an apology for the delay from the MA and that I would get it later on that day. Everything was okay until that Friday, the 23rd. I did still have some pain on the suzetrigine and Celebrex, but it was manageable and I could sleep on my right side, which minimalized pain on the left. But for some reason, by Friday the 23rd, the pain came back nearly full force. I texted Dr. C via MyChart about the great pain I was in and asked for something stronger to get me through until I started PT on Tuesday. Three times the doctor, through his MA, denied it to me--even though I said the pain was so bad I could not eat or sleep (I tried to take a nap I was so exhausted and could not) and was nearly crying, the pain was so awful. I wanted to say I was in agony, but I figured that would sound overly dramatic and they would think I was being a drama queen. But I was told that they like to be conservative and pain meds can cover what is wrong with it and I would have to wait and see how I would do AFTER PT! I was floored! I tried to tell them how severe the pain was but got nowhere, just that they "understood perfectly" what I was talking about! The heck they did! Finally, the medical assistant said if I wanted some narcotic pain meds, I would have to go to my regular doctor or urgent care. Which I did. The NP put me on Tylenol no. 3, gave me 30 tablets to help me get through until my first PT appt. SHE believed me when I told her my pain level was a 10! I had to take 2 initially, the pain was so bad, then just one. But after that, I was able to function and most of the pain was gone. In fact, by the following Tuesday I hardly had any pain left at all. I saw a different orthopedist at a different clinic on the 28th, who reiterated about not wanting to cover up the problem with pain killers. I told this new doc that I understood, but that my pain had been so severe, I could not have functioned until my first PT appt. My husband backed me up as to how severe my pain was, that he had never seen me, in 53 years of marriage, be that bad and that I never abuse pain killers and don't even like taking them because they make me feel spacy. Anyway, he said if that awful pain came back and I had no more pills from the first Rx, to call his clinic and he would get me some more. He HEARD ME. He didn't try to minimalize my pain or make light of it. Oh and he authorized a LOT more PT sessions. Hopefully, they will help make my bursa pad stronger and less likely to flare up. We have a Tempurpedic mattress and a wonderful topper we had recently put on it that is marvelous and cushiony. So even the second doctor could not explained what had caused it, when I had been pain free the day before. I did so a survey that the Piedmont clinic sent to me, but goofed when I filled it out. So, I never got to say anything about the late Rx or the denial of pain meds.

He even gave me a brace to use. I was so relieved. The others were trying to charge me $1200. I can't believe it. He is so kind. I think he just saw the pain I was in and wanted to help. When I explained that we were declining injections and surgery, the doctor's demeanor noticeably changed. His tone became sarcastic, and I felt he was rude and unprofessional. He didn't go over the MRI or showed us anything. We arrived 30 minutes early, yet we waited over an hour just to be taken to the back. The long wait was frustrating and added to an already uncomfortable experience. When I asked about other treatment options, he told me there were no alternatives and nothing else he could do. Patients should be able to ask questions and discuss their treatment preferences without feeling dismissed. The office also had a strong, unpleasant odor and appeared unkempt and poorly maintained. The overall environment was not welcoming. I will not return and will request a referral to another specialist. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this office.
