What a nice find…read more Took my daughter here today, as she enjoyed our trip to MoMA a few years ago, and she likes to look at artwork, plus, she recently got into the art board game Dixit, so I figured this would be a nice treat. The museum is small, about four rooms for exhibitions which take no more than an hour to traverse. The staff is friendly and inviting, and each room has an appointed docent to help explain things and tell you about the artwork. we liked the variety - it's not just paintings, and it's not just sculpture - there is a blend of everything, and like most museums there is an explanation of each piece nearby so you can have information and draw your own observances. On our visit, the whole museum was virtually empty - we saw a total of four other guests - plenty of quiet space to enjoy the displays. What my daughter liked the most was the interactive studio (no extra fee) where guests at the museum can create their own art from a room full of materials - it's like going back to the art room of your old elementary school! My brother and I got in on the creative process and sat at a table along side my daughter and enjoyed some art time with cray pas, scissors, papers of all kinds, and various tapes and glues. My daughter then donated her art piece to the museum and the docents delightfully told her they would hang it up in the art studio for other guests to see! It was a very nice gesture for them to tell her this, and the smile on her face was worth the price of admission.

It's a museum and…read morereference library for the study of the arts and cultures of Spain, Portugal, and their former colonies in Latin America, the Spanish East Indies, and Portuguese India. It was founded in 1904 and expanded into the former home of the Museum of the American Indian (adjacent to the museum's original building) in 2021. Their collection includes 18,000 works, including works by Diego Velázquez, Francisco de Goya, El Greco, and Joaquín Sorolla. When I visited last weekend, the largest space of the museum was closed as they set it up for a new exhibit. Unfortunately, that meant only two small spaces were open to view. Luckily, one of the spaces I was able to see was the Sorollo Room. It displays 14 paintings painted by Joaquín Sorolla. Together, the paintings depict different provinces of Spain and total 227 feet in length. It's incredible and worth a trip to the museum on its own. It's free to visit the museum, so if you're in the area it's well worth stepping by. If you get lucky, you'll get to see more than I did (bad timing!), but even if you see nothing more than the Sorolla Room, it's worth it. I'll probably return one day to see more of their space and different exhibits!
