If you enjoy false promises, cost estimates that adjust without explanation, and having your requests for information treated more like optional suggestions, Ahmad and Associates may be the law firm for you!
Our experience was an impressive exercise in managing expectations, mostly by learning not to have any. Estimates had a fascinating ability to evolve, explanations were apparently available on a need-to-know basis, and getting straightforward information sometimes felt like trying to obtain classified documents.
Communication was especially memorable, largely because there was so little of it. There is a certain irony in hiring counsel to provide clarity during a complicated process, only to find that obtaining clarity from counsel becomes a complication of its own.
Questions could disappear into the void with remarkable efficiency, while I was left wondering whether my emails had been received, read, or entered into some sort of witness protection program.
I understand that legal matters can be complicated and that estimates can change. What I don't understand is why communicating those changes, explaining charges, and responding to reasonable questions seemed to be considerably more challenging than the legal work itself.
Clients should not have to pursue their attorneys for basic information, nor should unexplained changes in anticipated costs be treated as an ordinary feature of the attorney client relationship.
If transparency, responsiveness, and predictable communication aren't especially important to you, you may have found your people.
Otherwise, keep looking.
