I signed my son up for classes at a specific location & for very specific dates due to HS sports obligation. 3 days before classes were about to begin, I received an email stating they were changing the location I chose. I emailed back asking for a call or email to discuss such changes, but instead received an email that showed a REFUND! Instead of calling a paying customer back, their answer was to cancel my son's classes & issue a refund. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE & not the way a company should operate. I can't be sure with the honesty and the level of integrity of this school. I get it that every business is for "private" profit. It's just seems so weird to have fail a good driver multiple times. and literally lie and create fake evidences of violations that my daughter hasn't committed to make her fail and take the exam again. the instructor did not even had a grading sheet on him. He was talking to the sponsor in the back the whole time, at the end he said failed. After my daughter complained, he went to his car and brought and evaluation sheet and circled fake stuff and claimed she committed those violation. Very disappointed and would not recommend at all. He was tailgating, couldn't see his headlights because he was so close... we were going 75 in a 65... changed lanes with no directional to pass us... Just terrible. While the classroom portion of the driver's training is adequate, they simply fail to provide lessons and observation. In 7 months they've been able to fit in my son for just 1 lesson (out of the 8 paid for). He would have been eligible to get his driver's license 2 months ago, but the school's website, where they schedule lessons, hasn't shown a single lesson available for months. Scam, stay away! Took a 90 min driving practice with them, and was only maybe 50 min of actual driving without any direction or help. Then scheduled the road test and everyone I was with FAILED, for any little thing. The person with me failed because he "accelerated" too fast and me for getting on the road but the person giving it said I cut someone off when I was way away from it. DON'T GO HERE, THEY JUST TAKE YOUR MONEY BUT DON'T HELP. Yes they say you can do the road test faster then at the RMV, but you'll not get it anyway. read more

Ok this is from last year so many things have been better or worse since then. My son upon his 16th bday wanted to start his drivers ed so we determined Agannis was the best place to go as I had hear horror stories about the schools in Burlington and Billerica. We signed up (process was a little slow- cant exactly remember why but there was an issue with getting him into class) He LOVED the classroom training and did well on his testing. He thought it was really impressove that 'Mr Agannis himself' came into the class to talk about their training. Parent have to take a class as well (THAT seemed like it was nothing more than a 'why we are better than out competition ad for over an hour') The reason why they only get three stars? Scheduling driving time_ WHAT a nightmare! They have some special fandangled online system to be able to schedule it on your own 'when available' (Ill get to THAT later) They NEVER gave my son his access code or password or whatever they called it- I had to call- TWICE to try to obtain it. Once we had it and youd go into the system- there were NO TIMES available for teens AT ALL- I mean what kid can do a driving class at 1100am on a school day?! His class was when it was warm out (I think early summer ) and he wasnt able to start driving classes for WEEKS after he took his classroom time- they need to figure that out. I was told by the VERY young girl at the desk on the phone that 'if he was approaching his time he could actually go for his license to let them know and they would out him on a different list so he could get availability to more time frames' WHY? Shouldnt EVERY student be able to get driving time immediately following their classes? I think its better to get the two to fall hand in hand- in fact, maybe schedule out their first driving class at their last classroom visit so they know when it will be. My son ended up driving at night on a few classes- which I dont think is good when they are JUST starting out. I did like the idea that the kids could be picked up at school if need be after school.He was also able to take the road test AT THE SCHOOL on Saturday morning. (extra fees of course) Get more availability from 2-9 pm EVERY day and on weekend so kids can out to use what they JUST learned in class. They should pay you for the hours of time you will waste trying to book the driving lessons online. There are never any, you must call and you may get one. Yet you are forced to pay for the road test before any lessons happen, so you are held captive. The only thing that happens quickly is when they take your credit card number and charge you. The parent class taught by Chris Agganis is a joke. You break your behind to get there on time and starts a half an hour late. This is after you have left your job early in order to get there. He thinks power point is great technology and babbles for an hour about why driving is so difficult today: it's because cars are fast ! Then crams important information into the last 20 minutes. They have you over the barrel and there is zero accountability in this disaster of what passes as a company. This is one for thet attorney general to investigate read more

About four years ago I had an abysmal experience with Agganis with my oldest child -- near impossible to get lessons (they literally filled up within seconds of receiving a text about available lessons). I vowed to myself I'd never use Agganis again. When my next two kids got their permits I search around for a "better" driving school only to realize they all had shaky reviews. So I called Agganis and point-blank explained about my horrible past experience and asked why I should believe it would be any different this time around. The young woman on the phone assured me they had plenty of lessons, that she wasn't just saying that (and even acknowledge they did have problems in the past--that honesty went a long way with me), so I gave it a shot. I am pleased to say the experience was completely different -- my kids were able to get lessons when they wanted and with a variety of driving instructors. As long as Agganis continues in this fashion, then I wholeheartedly recommend them! I live in Melrose and they have a broad service area. read more

I give one star because giving negative stars is not possible. Stay away. Easy to set up the 30 hour classroom but after that you will never be able to set up lessons or contact the school. They will pressure you to pay the balance for the lessons but there are never (and I mean never) any open lessons in their online schedule. They do not answer phones and they do not respond to emails or phone messages. A personal visit to the office was required several times and was met by very unlikeable and arrogant staff. After signing up for their last minute text message service I never received a single text message and had to return several more times in order to remedy the situation. When we finally got a couple of text messages they literally offered a lesson like "right now" as in "I'm in your town can I come now?". If your child goes to school, has a job or any other activities you will never get a lesson scheduled. Frankly, I never write reviews but this may be the worst business I have ever dealt with. I regrettably paid for both of my kids at the same time to take lessons here after we moved here from NJ. I barely managed to get my daughter through the program without having to constantly harass them into scheduling driving lessons for her. Now I am trying to get the remaining 6 driving lessons scheduled for my son, and I am getting zero response from them. It does not matter what you do - constant emails and/or phone calls do not help. I have even copied the owner on the emails - he does not care, so don't fall for his speech during the parent class. We have been keeping track of all our attempts to get what we paid for, so now we are forced to seek legal assistance. We will be leaving negative reviews everywhere, putting in a complaint with the BBB, and hiring a lawyer to get our money back. This school was nothing but a NIGHTMARE. Way over priced as I payed $1,000 for really bad quality. The classroom portion was a complete joke, I learned absolutely nothing sitting in that classroom. It was a project to just schedule a lesson and I was placed on a text alert system and got ZERO texts. The driving instructors were kinda helpful. They neglected to teach me how to park in between cars. Poor communication as I passed the test and didn't get my licence till 18 days later after they said 10 max. Employees are extremely rude and useless, they slam you with stupid fees, they did not tell me a fee i had to pay which delayed me to receiving my licence. If I could give zero stars I would. I signed my daughter up for the Agganis program because I had always heard that they have such a wonderful reputation. Unfortunately for us they have not lived up to that reputation. My daughter had her classroom time a year ago. The classroom instruction was fine except for the retired state police officer who did some kind of scared straight thing that included him railing against anyone whose politics or religion were different from his. He's entitled to share his opinion and I really do want her to hear and understand views that are different from hers, but NOT in that forum. I spent a lot of money on driving lessons. He should have stuck to that topic and that topic alone. I e-mailed the school about that and never got a response and I called and was told to call back later. My daughter started attempting to sign up for road lessons the day she got her permit a couple of months after the classroom time. She started with their online booking system which is antiquated and remarkably slow. It wouldn't let her book lessons any sooner than three months out. She did sign up for those lessons, but they would only allow her to sign up for three at a time. We signed up for text alerts for lessons -- three times. Never got text alerts. My daughter tried calling the office to book lessons only to be told to call back later in the week or next week. She made these calls twice a week, always calling when they told her to call. She was consistently told to call back. I e-mailed them and I called them. They DO NOT repsond to parent e-mails (and, of course, I was told to call back) but will miraculously suddenly send you a text alert telling you they have lessons available the very next day. I agree with Dana S about the parent education class. It was like sitting in the audience for an infomercial. ... And, be aware; they are NOT clear about 'fees.' Good luck determining which fees go to them and which ones go to the registry. When you call to ask them to clarify they will tell you to call back later. I think 'call back later' is their company mantra. So frustrating. We still aren't done with them. I am contemplating contacting the Better Business Bureau. I've tried to be diplomatic and patient with them over the last several months, but I have really just about had it. read more

I would absolutely NOT recommend this driving school. The classroom portion was fine, but scheduling the actual driving lessons was a nightmare. They tell you to set up an on[line account but there are NEVER any lessons available. They will text you when a few become available, if you don't race to your computer to sign up, they are all filled. They do let you you schedule your driving test in advance, and once you do that you get a few more texts about lessons, but it's basically a game to check their on-line system multiple times a day to see if something is open. And then they change the driver's test too, and say it's the registry's fault. I don't believe they because other schools don't do that. And they rarely call back or answer e-mails. If you are looking for a way to spend money and get nothing in return, this is the place. Consider it a donation to the company and not lesseons for your teenager. The online classes were helpful but 3 mos later when we went to get a permit, after passing written test, they said our teenager did not attend all classes. Could not tell us which class was missed but that we needed to pay another class fee and retake. We challenged and eventually they relented admitting they really didn't know if we attended all the online classes or not? SCAM!! The driving lessons were fun for my teenager but not of value. Nothing was learned and all the driving, parallel parking, and 3 point turn instruction was from us. Once it came time to take the test, you sign up with Agganis but they do not guarantee the appt. 2 months later - after being rescheduled so many times we gave up and went directly to the RMV. I don't think it is often to say the RMV experience was better than Agganis. I would avoid at all cost unless you are looking for a place to donate money. Very unprofessional. The only reason they don't get one star is because the pre-permit classes were helpful. After the classroom lessons, it's hard for students to find an actual driving lesson. They use this confusing online system to book lessons, but it never shows any available. Recently, they created a text system where a text would be sent to your cell phone saying something like "lesson at 4 today, reply to sign up" and whenever we would respond, we would never even get one text back! A simple "sorry this lesson is no longer available" would have been nice. Their office hours are very limited, and they delete your online account after your 8th lesson which is unfortunate if you want more than 8 lessons, or if your last one is far away from your road test date. I suppose in this area there's not many options for learning to drive, but be warned update: today I learned that it is $114 for each extra lesson! read more

If I could put a zero I would. I thought the reviews I read were exaggerating the difficulty in scheduling lessons - they were not. In 5 months since my child has had a learners permit ONLY ONE lesson has been scheduled. I have called, texted and emailed and have gotten nowhere. The road test is in 3 weeks and 7 lessons have to be scheduled. Don't pay attention to the mentions about the online scheduling. Literally EVERY time I look there are NO open slots (unless you are looking into November) despite their claims that the summer is prime time with instructors available 7 days a week. They must have paid the people who posted good reviews because I can't imagine having anything good to say about Agganis. Find another school even if it's not as convenient. what a joke! read more

It has been a year since my daughter to the week long course and we have had to push out and cancel her driving test because Agganis can't make time for her driving lessons. We have made ourselves completely available for a lesson anytime but they constantly fall short. The management team there is either inept and incapable of running a business or they are crooks and are taking as much money in as possible and stealing the money. This was the most painful experience I have ever suffered. I am an adult who grew up in New York City so never needed to drive anywhere. Moved to the Metro Boston area and signed up here. The classroom lessons were not informative at all. The instructor popped in video after video, no personal instruction. A youtube play list would have been more instructive. Then, scheduling the road tests is a NIGHTMARE. There are never any time slots available. I needed to wait about 2 MONTHS before the first available slot. I called and called, explaining that I was not some teenage kid that wanted his license to race around with his friends, I needed this to bring the kids to the doctor, go to the market, get to work on the days that the trains are running late, etc. They always told me that I was on top of the list and that I would get a call back. Of course, that never happened. I had to call and call and call and every time I got an attitude from the girl at the desk. She would say "I told you I would call...." but I had to remind her that she never did. You need to be persistent with this company. No emails, no messages, call and harass the girl at the desk until you get what you want. Then, once I was ready for the road test, they CANCELLED MY APPOINTMENT THREE TIMES!!! Usually two days before the test, some excuse about the registry cancelling on them. I call BS on that. In any event it took an extra month to get the road test. This whole experience with them has been pure torture and extremely stressful. I would give no stars if I could. read more

It has been a nightmare scheduling lessons for my daughter. Like many folks mentioned here, scheduling the driving lessons is a NIGHTMARE! They NEVER answer the phone, e-mails take a minimum of 3 business days to get a reply, and when you do, is not to solve your problem, is more like an acknowledgment. My biggest problem now has to do with my daughter's road exam. Agganis books bulk exams with the RMV, and my daughter's exam was never canceled. We didn't even know she had an exam scheduled since she wasn't even done with her driving lessons. A month after she passed the test, she still had not received the license in the mail, so we went to the RMV in Wilmington and they told us it was Agganis fault, for not canceling the road exam (they even gave me the booking confirmation number). As a result, she had a $35 balance and her license could not be issued until she paid the $35 fee. I paid Agganis almost $1000 for this class, which is outrageous! I'm not paying another $35, especially when is NOT OUR FAULT! When I called Agganis, they told me that "this was between the RMV and me, there was nothing they could do to help. In addition, the road exam had been re-scheduled a number of times." DUHH! Of course it had! They never had any appointments available for lessons, no wonder the road exams had to be scheduled. The RMV won't let her take the exam if she's not done with the lessons. I went to tri-town because it was closer to my house, and I explained the situation as calmly as I could, and I was given the run around the story... that this was the RMV's fault, not Agganis. I want to pay just to get this over with, but it's not fair. I wonder how many people going through this? Maybe this is the new SCAM. My daughter was ONE of 114 students who was left with a balance of $35 for a road test that was not canceled. Maybe the other people didn't want to deal with either the RMV or Agganis and they just paid the additional fee... But if you are like me, I would like to learn how you solved this! My experience with Agganis started out well. My daughter loved the classroom lessons and I found the parent class informative. My experience started to go downhill once I sent the final check then I was their captive. First there was the emailing the drivers permit: three times because they didn't receive the first 2 even though it was the same email each time. Then came trying to scheduling driving time WHAT a nightmare! Their online system is 98% full 3 months out constantly. It took 4.5 months to get 3 lessons. I called repeatedly but often got a machine with no call back and when I reached a person it was a lot of run around about new dates being released. It all came down to April vacation when I had to wait for daily texts on available classes for the very next day. Since my daughter's deadline to accomplish the driving lessons was in 7 days and we had 5 classes to accomplish in that time it absolutely ruined my vacation. I've had two children learn to drive through Agganis and one with a different school that was less money. Definitely pay the money at Agganis. It was well worth it. They are very professional and thorough. You might find it frustrating to book the driving lessons at the beginning, but when your close to the test date they work very closely with you to arrange the lessons and get your child their test date in time. Don't recommend if you want your 16 year old to get their license at 16 1/2. We took the 30-hour classroom and parent classes. There weren't any driving lessons available in Melrose for the next 6 months. The lessons were okay but I found out the day before the test that my child couldn't parallel park. I scheduled the test for a Saturday afternoon but it got moved to a weekday at 6.30pm in the dark at another driving school in Woburn rather than the DMV. He passed but so stressful. read more

We've put 3 of our children through Agganis in the 2000's. Although expensive the experience was fine enough. No problem booking driving lessons or the driving test . Now fast forward 2015 my 4th childs experience. Navigating website is confusing, trying to book driving lessons a big challenge , just like what everyone else has stated, we also had the same complaints. Here's the top complaint of all the complaints. We booked the road test 1 month in advance only to get a text about 3 or 4 days before test asking us to change the Saturday test to next Thursday. OK. reluctantly we agree , do to other plans. Then we get a call on Monday 3 days before rescheduled road test only to be told our child and half of class got bumped because RMV is short handed. OK. not good right? But now we're in limbo because they can't tell us when we can test. We were told we had to wait till we hear from them. So this has been our experience. We have 1 more child to go and I'm hoping they ( Agganis) gets their act together. read more
