We also found that basic supplies like toilet paper were very limited. This property has so much potential, and with some updates to the units and amenities, it could easily be a five-star experience. My entire family feels the same way. No host present at any time during our stay and no other guests (not counting the man who came and went at odd hours). The cottage could use some upkeep and a good cleaning...multiple lights burnt out, shower glass was extremely dirty, one wash cloth for two guests, soap dispensers all empty. One bedroom TV didn't work, dishwasher was hard to open due the bottom cabinet trim being out of place. On the second day I notified the management company that a bear had been through the property leaving debris scattered throughout. The reply was I'll come by tomorrow and clean it up. The debris was still there when we left two days later. On the second night we noticed a man arrive late and go into a cottage, he left early the next day. He arrived again around 11pm on the third night, blasting an air horn outside our bedroom window in an attempt to scare the bears (Mom and cub) away from his car. Again, I called the management company who stated no staff or guests other than us were present. No concern on their part, "What do you want me to do?". I got a lecture on bears even though I shared that I had owned a home in Tahoma for many years, I am very familiar with bear behavior. And although my car was damaged by the bears, the bears weren't the issue. I received a survey several days after returning home and recounted our experience and disappointment in what should have been a very pleasant stay. At the end of the survey I was prompted to request a call regarding my experience, responding yes. Never heard from anyone.

Our first experience here was at the Onyx Gem, 17 I think, in Sept 2015. I remember thinking this could be a good winter location to rent. In the summer, it is walkable to the beach but bring cold weather wear. The Onyx had such a tiny water heater that we ran out of hot water with just two people showering. It also has two open walls with beds right against the half walls in the loft area. The upstairs beds were unbearably uncomfortable so we used the downstairs room only. There are electrical cords all over the place so if you have anyone in the under four crowd, stay away. Our second experience is at #54, carnelian charmer. The water heater is larger, so we haven't had any hot water issues. The heat in master bedroom is very loud, my husband was unable to sleep at all the first night. This place has tucked away all electrical cords and the loft area has one open wall without a bed directly adjacent. There is most of what you need kitchen wise except I would BYO crockpot and potato peeler. Sharp knives and cutting boards were included. The beds are moderately comfortable but the large selection of games was a huge plus for us. The washer and dryer appear new and the sound bar is top notch! In both cases the toilet paper and facial tissue were the worst, we BYO always.

I signed the agreement, noticed that the number of people was 1 with dogs but did not see a spot to change the number of people, so I signed and communicated via email with Waters on the number of people and dogs. Waters responded that there was a 2 dog limit and they were canceling the reservation. I tried calling and emailing to discuss since I was more than willing to adhere to the dog limit. After repeated attempts via email and phone, I was unable to have a reasonable conversation with anyone from Waters. Now it's less than 2 weeks from my trip date and I have to try and find another accommodation that meets our needs.

They had a wide selection of dog-friendly cabins, and the area where we ended up at - Carnelian Bay - turned out to be a very dog-friendly area indeed. Pups freely roam the neighborhood where our cabin was situated, and there was many a healthy dog poop lining the snowy trails. Booking over the Internet is quick and efficient. We received a prompt reply and follow-up call after our first email, and were quickly able to arrange to send in our deposit and book our cabin. Take careful note of the amenities listed for the various properties - the lists for each are long and varied, and it's easy to make assumptions about say - high speed internet being available when it's not ubiquitous for all the cabins listed. We received explicit instructions once we sent in our deposit, and I have to strongly recommend that you follow the directions provided rather than relying on Google Maps. The cabin we stayed in - Cedar Lodge - was simply gorgeous, immaculate, and spacious, with an amazing modern kitchen (stainless-steel appliances and large kitchen island - perfect for a group with folks who love to cook and eat. Other places may advertise that a certain property may sleep -- say 10, but 2 may actually end up having to sleep on the couch. This place advertised for 10, and provided a bed for each of 10 folks (a mix of singles and couples) very nicely. The huge couch, too, was a sleeper sofa, so in reality we could have housed 12 quite comfortably. The lease, however, only limited our numbers to the max advertised, on the danger of losing our deposit. We arrived to a nice welcome of complimentary pinot and doggie cookies. All in all, we'd definitely rent from this company - with their lovely dog-friendly properties - again and again.

They respond to both promptly. They were reachable before, during and after out stay. The cabin was thoroughly clean and stocked with towels etc. Even though this is not the flashiest cabin in Tahoe, we love staying there because we love Tahoma and have friends down the street. Tahoma is lower keyed than other parts of Tahoe. We can walk to beach and great hiking is available at Sugar Pine State Park and other places. The off street parking is perfect (and this is quite important for a vacation rental. Usually my wife and I rent the cabin, however it will accommodate up to 4. It is reasonably priced, AND it has "bear wires". This is real important in Tahoma because the local bears know which cabins have NO wires. break ins do happen, however we have never experienced that with the security wires. We highly recommend if you are up for a little "Old Tahoe" in Tahoma

By doing that, you can save an extra $200 - $300 by avoiding air b n b fees for both you and the rental agency. Their Yelp is daunting and thought I'd roll the dice anyways and risk it for the biscuit. There were highs and lows guys. I'll get into that soon. I was heading to a Shinedown concert in NV and thought I'd make a 3 day weekend out of it. My dog sitter was booked and needed to find a pet friendly rental for the dogs. The Speckled Gem was calling our name and looked perfect for our little family of 3 plus 2 dogs. I booked directly with Duane 8mos before our arrival date. He made the process smooth and was accommodating. Stephanie booked my insurance and gave me a generous break on the dogs. All was smooth sailing. Duane and Stephanie were both fantastic. Fast forward 8mos into August 2026. We arrived at our rental on a Friday 8/7/26 in the afternoon. We loved our location on a nice quiet street all tucked away. The house was huge. Just over 1,700sqft. My 7yr old son thought it was leg day and climbed the stairs over and over again. We never cooked in the rental. Because who wants to cook while your on vacation. I highly recommend the Grille at the Chateau in Incline Village. Now, there are some things I need to mention. The trash goes out Wednesday at 7am. Our bear box was packed full upon arrival 2 days later. So, 2 things may have happened. a) the prior guests didn't put out the trash at 7am on Wednesday or, b) The prior guests arrived to a full bear box, took out the trash on Wednesday and filled it up prior to departure Friday am. Either way, we had to drive our trash and recycling 4hrs back to Sonoma County. I didn't contact the agency because what were they going to do? Send an emergency garbage truck out on Saturday am? It wasn't worth it. So we just took it home. The prior guests stuffed a comforter in the trash. I let that slide and realized that was out of the rental agency's control. There was a dead squirrel in the backyard and its body moved every day like something out of the Blair witch project. Nature! I'd probably fire the house cleaner who cleans the property. They forgot to clean the coffee pot and we cleaned out all the wet grounds. Honest mistake. We let that slide too. However, I packed a black light and seached the toilets, walls and carpet. I will spare you the pictures and videos I have. But seriously, the cleaning lady needs to be fired. So, why am I still leaving a high star rating you ask? Because the Bear box was out of Tahoe NORTH rentals control. Nature and squirrel deaths are out of their control. It's not Tahoe NORTH rentals fault that the cleaning lady stinks. Would I rent from them again? Yes I would. Over all, I was happy and grateful for all of the fans they provided in the home.

Things could not have been more perfect! When my husband and I first stepped foot on the property and then into the house, we knew this was the place we wanted. We wish we could have held the entire wedding and reception there! Everyone was wowed by the beauty of Tahoe (for most, it was their first visit) and the home and property is just stunning. The furnishings and décor are top of the line. They have everything you can need. There is so much to do, too in close proximity.
