Giant rocking chair, cute photo opportunities.
Natalie W.

I'll start by saying the staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly! They make you feel like family and like you're truly apart of their farm/orchard. Their orchard is set up into sections, for apple picking. The apples are paid based on weight of your apples after picking. There is an entrance fee to pick apples and get into the pumpkin patch. They have a good selection of regular orange pumpkins as well as some other cool white, green, warty pumpkins, and some others. They have a sample table inside the apple house to try the apples before picking. There is a hayride tractor that takes you to the apples. Inside their store they have jams, apple and peach butters, frozen baked goods, fudge, some gourds, baking mixes, and some other goodies. The apple crisp and apple raspberry crisps are delicious! So crispy, fresh, and yummy! My fiancé planned a whole proposal here and the staff was very great at helping him plan and execute his proposal. They also have some cute photo opportunities like the giant rocking chair, a a swing, and much more. We will be returning to pick more apples!

We have been here two years now. The first time we went there was no one there and it was great! This year we went later in the year and it was packed, which wasn't as fun. They charge an entrance fee, even for babies, which I thought was crazy. There are other places that don't charge an entrance fee at all so not sure we will go back here next year. They have hay rides, petting zoo, a store to buy products, and on the weekends more family entertainment. This year there was a line to go into the store so we did not go in this year. The hay ride was nice. The drivers are very friendly and pick you up if you're walking, not just at the ride spots, which is nice. It was just so over crowded this year that we probably only spent an hour since there was a line for everything and we had a little baby with us. There is only one way in and out which caused a bottle neck, also very annoying. Overall, if you go earlier in the fall it's not as crowded and is more fun. But I really think it's stupid they charge an entrance fee for babies. Also, not as fun when it is over crowded. I think there are better places out there.

We came here in July to pick strawberries and had a great time. The staff were kind and were able to get us situated with a box. You then can either ride on the tractor or walk to the picking fields. A staff member directed us where to pick the berries and gave us a flag to mark where we stopped. Pricing was reasonable and the strawberries tasted great. I'd come back if I ever wanted to pick berries again.

Such a fun place to go! No sun since it has been very rainy lately but that made it so much better, still humid but did not have to worry about getting sunburned! Small shack was clean and had more products to purchase (honey, jam, butter) we Walked in and got a box then we walked to the field and started picking! They also had a small hay ride and strawberry milkshakes! The workers were so nice and directed us and made sure we got what we needed! Filled the box with a thin layer and paid $8 what a deal! Will be back for more and again in late summer for raspberries! Make sure to check Facebook page for updated hours they post almost everyday so make sure before you go!

We came during strawberry season. It was our first time here and didn't know what to expect. It was a little confusing where to park. Keep an eye out for the signs! The first employee welcoming everyone wasn't very helpful. She didn't explain what we were suppose to do until we asked. It was just a short walk to the strawberry fields where you meet someone else to show you where to go. They provided the containers and knee pads you need. The strawberries were very tasty. They had some goats to feed and pet next to the strawberries. Afterwards, you walk back and can enjoy some icecream and simple meals like hotdogs. That's where you pay for the amount of strawberries you pick as well. It's a good place for the kiddos and it's short-lived. You don't need to be there all day so it's nice for the kiddos that get bored quickly. I wish there were a little more things to do like a playground or hay rides. Looking at their website, looks like it depends on the time of season

Visiting Afton was super fun! Parking was easy. I went in to buy admission. The kids went to the playground first. They had a lot of fun! It was so many things to do. We then got on the hayride to go to the apple orchard. It was very confusing to understand which hayride went to which apples. Maybe I just had the one driver that skip stops. But hence the 4 stars. The caramel apples in the store were amazing! The apple chips, spectacular!!!! We enjoyed our time! I didn't like that the corn maze cost extra money and was separate... that was a bummer.

How Do You Like Them Apples? Admission: $5.00 per adult, $4 per child Activities: Apple and berry picking, tractor ride, corn maze, retread tower, straw tower, slides, swings, jump pad, petting zoo, Moo Moo Choo Choo train, and cider sampling. After the permanent closing of Nesbitt's Happ-E-Hill this year, my sister and I visited Afton instead with my two nephews. Unfortunately, the disorganization and crazy crowds we encountered at this orchard squashed some of the enjoyment for us adults. Build in time for parking, because traffic came to a dead standstill for us about two miles away from the orchard. A lack of parking attendants and signage when entering the orchard caused further delay and chaos. DEJA QUEUE The entrance line was the next apple of discord. Oh my gourd, what a mess wading through tangles of lines for purchases, apple tasting, snack orders, pumpkin carts, and stragglers not knowing where to go to pay for admission. Why not utilize a punch card system instead with just one line to pay for everything at the end of your visit? "I HAVEN'T GOT A BRAIN...ONLY STRAW." (WIZARD OF OZ) The playground was set up nicely with enough swings and slides to accommodate the swarming mass of kiddos. However, there were safety issues, the main one being an unstable, drooping tower of straw bales. "Play at your own risk" sign aside, there shouldn't be stations that dangerous for small kids in the first place. UPSETTING THE APPLE CART The wheeled carts used to transport pumpkins and apples were lined up by the main building instead of right by the pumpkins. If you missed them when you first walked in, you wouldn't have a direct line of view from the pumpkins. There was an abundance of both gigantic and cute mini pumpkins, though sadly no trace of the Great Pumpkin. Sorry Linus! YOU'RE THE APPLE OF MY PIE The only place to purchase food and drinks was in the congested main building. No outside drinks were allowed in the orchard, so a concession stand with cups of cider for sale up by the picnic tables and petting zoo would have been a welcome addition. From the main store we purchased gallons of cider and frozen pies that were delicious and appeeling once baked at home. BUT FIRST, LLAMA TAKE A SELFIE With all our complaints, we did enjoy the goats and llamas at the petting zoo, along with some peaceful and fruitful raspberry picking. We left with a nice mix of tart and sweet pink, red, and yellow raspberries. Do grab clear containers in the main building ahead of your field time! At its core, this orchard has all the bones for a first rate customer experience. But the layout and payment process need to be streamlined, and more safety measures need to be implemented. I give the orchard three straw bales, though the three-year-old nephew would have awarded five stars and two raspberry-stained high fives.

My first time at Afton - my friends and I usually go to Aamodt's in Stillwater, but we wanted to try a different orchard this year. I was shocked at how crowded it was and there weren't much apples available to pick! There were penty of raspberries and pumpkins though, so it would be good if you like raspberries or you're into carving pumpkins. We had heard the highlight of this apple farm was the sunflower field, but there weren't any sunflowers as most of them were dead :-( Since none of us go any apples, pumpkins or raspberries, not sure how much it is cost wise, but I heard pricey. The highlight of the visit was the free tractor hayride, which was nice break from walking. There were also lots of farm animals (goats, roosters, pigs, etc) for petting for the kiddies.

I love coming here and picking apples and berries, I love the atmosphere and all the things to do. They have animals to look at, fun things for kiddos, a hay ride. The place is huge, so many different apples to choose from. The food though, at the end is okay.

Went to Afton strawberry fields to pick our own berries and eat some strawberry treats in late June, towards the end of the season. Strawberries were ripe and the treats were delicious and reasonably priced

I have never been to an apple farm before and wanted to get in an apple picking experience this fall. We had a really nice day during our family outing. The gals that stamped our hands at the gate were very welcoming and friendly, the driver on our hay ride was also very nice in communicating with us during the ride and the stops. The playground is huge and the farm animals are very sweet. It was so fun watching the baby goats play on the little plastic slide. We even had a bit of time to pick some raspberries before we left. The apple cider is very good, I bought a gallon from the shop. It has more of a spice kick to it than I'm used to in California. They also have an array of different butters, jams, sauces, along with home decor, kitchen gadgets and other gifts. This is definitely a great place to visit for your traditional fall activities. UPDATE: I just took a bite out of the First Kiss apple after having them in the fridge and oh my goodness they are delicious. So crisp and flavorful!

Food: Obviously, they have apples. They also have lots of apple desserts, like cider and donuts. Venue: Standard apple orchard with a separate field for raspberries. They have a tractor hay ride that will pull you around the orchard for faster access to the large orchard, and for a fun way to see the entire property. They also have a petting zoo and farm-themed playground for kids. They also have a corn maze across the street that I'd love to try! They also have plenty photo ops as you can see below, which include a large swing and rocking chair. Experience: We went on a beautiful fall day which made apple picking very enjoyable. The apples were juicy and ripe, which isn't always the case when you pick your own. The staff was all very friendly and answered any questions you had. Parking: Parking lot on site

All this for $21?!?!?? Yes!!!

Contrary it's every reason why we enjoyed it. Highlights include: dog friendly, nice parking, friendly staff, proficient store with basic items such as honey, caramel, chocolate covered cherries, plush dog toys, coloring books, apples, etc. Outside you will find a pumpkin patch, goats and even a DJ with a dance floor. If you have kids, this is a great outing for the family. My group walked our dogs around the space, split come apple cider donuts and snapped a few pics by some of the fall decor. Notes: dogs are not allowed in the gift shop and there is a food stand that serves hot dogs, cider, chips and apple cider donuts. We did not see any alcohol onsite.

There are loads of orchards and pumpkin patches to choose from but you really have to made a pit stop at Fischer's Croix Farm and Orchard. They have a super cute hay bail for kids/adults to climb on but I'll warn you.. you have to be PRETTY agile to get to the top.. There's also some goats and chickens the kiddies can feed along with a tracker ride out to the corn maze! (You can go on the ride without actually going through the maze). There are loads of different apples/pumpkins to pick your own or buy the preselected bags inside the shop! They're all super friendly staff that'll share their love of apples and really help you select the right one :) oh and there's also a food truck in case you get hungry!!

It was easy to find, since they have a lot of signs up which have arrows from the main road. The staff here are very friendly, approachable and kind. It seems to be run by an all women staff woo!! The parking is on the grass or dirt parking. Come as early as you can because it gets crowded pretty darn fast, and loud. The inside building has a lot of items you can purchase, like peanut butter, apple pies, caramel apples, and pre picked apples. They also have samples of each apple in their orchard. My personal favorite was their sweet sixteen apple. They have an outside area, with 1 goat for a petting zoo. They have hay bails for kids to climb, and some open area for them to roam around. They have apple trees spread out everywhere and it's labeled with what kind of apple each tree is. It's a perfect photo spot, they also thought ahead and have a huge family bench near the corn maze where you can take cute pics. The corn maze is challenging but doable for kids and adults. They have an APPLE cutout inside the maze so you can find it, something fun in addition to the maze. There's a wagon that takes you out to the maze or you can just walk there. They have wagon rides at 11 am sharp. The pumpkin patch was sort of a disappointment, because some of them were spoiled and others were fungated? The whole place is perfect for instagram pictures, and fall photo shoots. It's free admission, but the corn maze is $3 per person. The apples and pumpkins are charged based on how much they weigh. It was really affordable. They have new hours apparently so call ahead to confirm. Definitely a family oriented fun outing!
