Como Park Animal Hospital - Being treated with steam for pneumonia, the day after leaving the hospital.

This place is more than a gem, it's necessary for peace of mind. As the owner of an exotic pet, I…read morehave unfortunately had to use Como Park's 24 hour emergency service more than once. They are responsive to phone calls, emails and are incredible kind to stressed out pet parents. They moved to a new location a bit over a year ago, which now has a much nicer waiting area. After our emergency visit, I got a follow up call checking on our pet and asking if there were any questions or concerns. Truly an indispensable service with kind and knowledgeable staff. I am so relieved they exist!!!

Our newly rescued Pomeranian spent 3 days at Como Park being treated for persistent pneumonia. We…read morewere blown away by the quality of care and the personal investment of each and everyone at Como Park Animal Hospital in bringing our dog back to life. We called at 3:45am on Good Friday and the hospital was too full to accept our pet (holidays, it seems, are often busy at the hospital). On the following day I called again, and my pet was admitted into the hospital for three days. He received dedicated, careful care, which explains why this policy of not over-admitting is so important. As soon as we came to the hospital on the weekend, our dog was taken back for triage. While he was being treated in the ICU, a technician came to talk over our Pom's case. He was just rescued, and his pneumonia was being treated for 9 days already without success. Our dog was hospitalized for 3 days. During this time, he was treated by four vets, all of whom were exceptional, though our favorite vet will always be Dr. Reis. She was invested 100% in brining our dog back to life. Together we created a treatment plan, with Dr. Reis always listening to my concerns and giving the best advice. I felt like I had a knowable partner in a difficult situation. Thank you, Dr. Reis!!! We were welcomed to visit our dog during his hospital stay whenever we wanted. We came 3 times a day, morning, noon and night, and we were always shown to a private comfortable room for a long, long visit. We brought food from home, which our dog was given by the staff during his stay. We also fed him during our visits. We called every day for updates on our dog between our visits, and each time the technician we spoke with was so kind, so loving to our dog and so helpful in providing us with all the information we required, including going over treatment plans daily. At last, the cost for our dog's stay was far less than we feared. Though we had asked that no cost be spared during treatment, in the the end the final bill was moderate. Thank you so much! This little dog is our family's Christmas present, and we are very grateful to Como Park Animal Hospital for giving him a chance to survive a cruel life of abuse prior to his rescue. Now, we have a chance to build a happy life together. Thank you!

I called for an appointment which I was quoted $20 for just coming in to see IF my dog needed medical attention past the obvious ear infection I was already aware of. I wish I knew the name of the receptionist that took my appointment but they know because it's in the log of who booked the appointment. So I get there and end up getting jerked around from $300 some odd dollars to $500 something down to settling on $400 (while I'm on the phone with my fiancé trying to check our funds because again we were expecting a $20 checkup). For her to come back again and tell me $600 plus dollars to finally end up paying $500 For medication and services. They then failed to give me written or verbal instructions about how to give the dog treatments I don't understand. In fact the only verbal instructions were "obviously don't give him this until 30 min after that while walking out of the office. On top of all this I paid for a separate item for a pet at home that couldn't make it to the vet that day but still needed the item (a cone collar) and it wasn't given to me. I also only saw the doc for like 5 minutes and the vet assist kept commenting on my phone call when trying to discuss paying half a grand out of nowhere. I feel like I wasted my time and was robbed blind. I obviously wasn't robbed literally, but I feel taken advantage of and under helped and like I could've gone to PetSmart and done 5 minutes of research and bought some medicine to get the same quality of help for probably $50-100 instead. Check your receptionist quotes, guide your clients treatments, provide things paid for. Do better.

I started coming to this vet after I decided to keep a found kitten. Kitten was injured and I had…read moreto get her to an emergency vet right away. She needed stitches to be removed 2 weeks later. Life Care was suggested and I was looking for a new vet, so went to them. Decided to stay with them. Most of the doctors have been great. Most techs have been great. I think it's the ownership and staffing/scheduling; as I've noticed in the year and half or so I've been going, front desk staff changes. I've also not seen one of the techs I remember when I first started going there. They aren't retaining support staff and I can guess why they leave. The appointment/record entry is questionable. Regardless of the reason for the appointment, it has been entered as "wellness exam" 9/10 times. When you go to schedule via the portal- there aren't appropriate choices, or comment sections to add info. When you do think you picked the appropriate choice/wording and later check/look it up - the info has changed to generic "wellness exam". No idea of price until you get there and they suggest how to proceed and have you agree. Except for the very first visit, I'd usually never get out of there without paying at least $150, or in that ball park. I said, AT LEAST. Not "on average", but as in, no less than. Every. Single. Visit. Hundreds of dollars for blood work labs, before anything that requires anesthesia (dental cleaning, etc.) Go in for an issue, suspected injury, illness- whatever- and you drop over a hundred for exam, then more for meds. Then a follow up is scheduled for a week or so out- which again costs you over $100. My most recent visit was the deciding factor for me. They suggested a flea and heartworm preventative for my older cat (at the appointment) and I thought that made sense. I was all ready to get the med, when I asked about it for my other cat at home. The tech said they'd have to see my other cat in office before prescribing it for her too; mind you- that was the kitten, who'd constantly been there (as in, about every month) her first year of life for regular wellness exams and preventatives, etc. Refused to give the med for her without seeing her in office, but didn't explain why what was necessary. BUT wanted to send me home with the med for the cat at the appointment. WHY would I treat one cat with a flea preventative and not the other cat at the same time? What would even be the point? That is what I told the tech, and refused the med. I knew already, and didn't want to accept it... At that point and after all the other money spent there over the period of a year and half and red flags- it was completely clear that this hospital ridiculously over charges. Offers urgent care, but somehow the appointment will be days away- but will still be charged urgent care pricing...One way or another; either by exorbitant pricing for certain services, or by over scheduling/unnecessary exams. I have to go elsewhere.

I will not be returning here. I reached out near the start of business and was told I would receive…read morea call back shortly regarding an ongoing life threatening situation with one of my pets. after no call back, I left a review expressing my disappointment at the communication regarding this situation and life care responded with private information regarding my pet, their condition, and potential treatment options while not addressing the fact they never called me back and insinuated that their lack of communication was somehow my fault. additionally the situation at hand had been discussed with a specific vet and I had a verbal agreement of the process of care, and it was only due to this verbal agreement that I agreed to change vets in the first place, but being a critical thinker I understand that policies are polices for a reason and focused my review on the lack of communication. so not only did I not get a call back regarding a life threatening situation, the verbal agreement (which was not mentioned and not the reason for the review in the first place) was not honored, and they violated my and my pet's privacy. Do better, own your own behavior and the negatives that come from that, in addition if the receptionist named Kim is unable to be professional and respectful when there is a valid complaint, they should not be in the position to answer the phone.
