We sat there for 12 minutes with no service and decided to get up and knock on doors around the restaurant to find anyone on staff. Eventually a server came out and she was happy to help us. A man walked in after us and the same thing happened to him, and after 10 minutes he started to wonder and then found a bell to ring. Once we had ordered, our food was quick to come out and had good flavor. The server was very attentive and asked if I had eaten fufu before wanting to help me enjoy it if I hadn't. Overall the food was good. The service was fine once we got someone to come out from the back, but for restaurant week there was no savings. It was $20 whether I did the meal alone or chose the same meal on the restaurant week menu.

The fries were crunchy, well seasoned, and the beef samosas WERE SO GOOD AND CRUNCHY AS WELL! I like that you can pay via QR code on the receipt because it makes it so much more convenient; this was my first time trying african food and i would 100% recommend!

The indoor mini mall it's inside looks fairly new, with a nice upbeat atmosphere. I wasn't expecting to find authentic African food in Lenexa. African Dream features Nigerian specialties like fufu, and that also looked tempting, but one good meal was my objective. My server Ria was gracious and helpful. She helped me select a meal for takeout, and I had a 20-minute-plus drive to reach home, where I devoured this memorable meal (had at a reasonable price) in less time than it took to drive home. I had the brisket platter with sides (served in a takeout container). The brisket was, in a word, delicious! I'll be back for sure. The cabbage and rice dish sides were nice, too, and they complemented the brisket just fine. I'm glad that I arrived in time for the last small portion of their brisket. It looks like it usually sells out at lunch, but it's Monday and the entire food court wasn't busy. It was tender and smoky, with a light au jus style sauce. Yum. Parking was just okay on the street, and most spots were taken around my near-5 p.m. arrival, but I lucked into a parallel spot very close. My only tip would be if you're a brisket hound like me, park and arrive earlier! I shall return! (5 stars!)

They recently expanded to a second spot right next door and its vibes! If you're interested in trying real authentic African food for the first time....this is the spot! I love ALL their dishes. Although it may be a bit pricey and sometimes a bit overly spicy which they do a great job at accommodating for those who don't care much for spicy food. Today I ordered the meat pie and beef suya, it was a bit too crispy but nonetheless was delicious. I highly recommend you try this place out and meet the owner. Great food and Great vibes.

We were tired, hungry, and still searching for a good meal when we noticed the place. We arrived only about 15-20 minutes before closing and fully expected to be told they were wrapping up and couldn't take any more orders. Instead, the owner welcomed us warmly and made us feel completely at ease. He explained that they cook everything fresh, so the wait might be a little longer especially since they were nearing closing time. We were more than happy to wait and genuinely grateful for the hospitality. We started with drinks while the kitchen prepared our meals. My friend ordered swallow with egusi and assorted meat, and I had ofada rice and sauce also with assorted meat. When the food arrived, it was outstanding and I can say it was easily one of the most delicious Nigerian meals I've had at an African restaurant all year. The flavors were rich, the portions generous, and everything tasted freshly prepared and carefully seasoned. Truly off the chain. The owner and his staff were consistently kind, attentive, and courteous throughout our visit. What could have been a rushed or disappointing end to the evening turned into a memorable and satisfying experience. If I'm ever back in Kansas City, My Village - Grill Restaurant will be one of my first stops. Highly recommend

I got beef samosas, jasmine rice and beef something, I think it was pronounced sooya beef. It meant spicy. It wasn't too spicy, which is good. I liked the samosas, they were very good. The jasmine rice was ok, I ate it but I wasn't crazy about it. The sooya beef was good, except for several very tough pieces. The sauce that went with the samosas was spicy...first it tasted great, then it burned. So be forewarned about that. I did like it, just had to drink extra water. This place is a nice cultural experience. I enjoyed studying the African decor while my food was cooked. The staff try very hard to please...more than most US places. And they are authentic Africans. Some cultural places don't have genuine staff. I am taking away 1 star because some of the TVs in the dining area had African rap music videos that would put Miley Cyrus to shame. I enjoyed everything else, but those videos were offensive. And I wasn't trying to watch them either...the TVs were just there.

It is a great experience as I was wondering if I would like it and it turned out better than I expected. The server was very polite and asked us if we need help with the menu. He recommended the sampler combo which consists of different meats and veggies options. I am glad that we listened to him as one sampler combo was very filing for two men. It is kind of like Indian food so if you are not sure why to try, go with the sample combo. I also ordered the Ethiopian iced coffee which is like a light roast flavor iced coffee and easy to take in. I would recommend you to try out this restaurant if you want something different than bbq or pasta at the Kansas City Market!

Nearly every item in the veg combo and doro wat was under-seasoned and certainly missing the complexity of spices that makes Ethiopian food amazing. Seemed to be missing butter too. The lentils in both dishes were undercooked and chewy. The doro wat was heavy on salt but again no complexity at all. It tasted like it was missing multiple spices. And was definitely missing the boiled egg that's always part of the dish. The mitmita never made it into the bag. They asked if I wanted gluten free injera and I was confused-said I'd only had the normal one before. It wasn't until I unwrapped it that I realized they were offering that option because they don't use teff flour! Which is naturally gluten free. Injera without teff? Really? I've never heard of that. It makes for a heavy, heavy meal and lacks the unique nutty flavor of normal injera. After eating 10% of the meal I wanted a nap. And didn't want any more of the meal. I guess this is heavily Americanized Ethiopian food? Or the chef isn't really a cook? Whatever the logic, it's simply not that good. Such a pity. When Ethiopian is done right it's a truly wonderful cuisine. The food here is fine if bland. But bears too little resemblance to Ethiopian dishes you'd find in a larger city. I suspect if they cooked the food with the usual panoply of spices that goes in, people in KC would absolutely love it. But as it is, it's a poor, dumbed down representation of a complex and delicious cuisine.

My husband absolutely loves their chicken jambalaya! He claims it is the best he has ever had, anywhere and he ordered it both times! I have had both the house chicken and the coconut curry shrimp. You can't go wrong with either choice, but I think I liked the coconut curry shrimp best. On our second visit there, we took a friend and she had the beef tibs. That was interesting since none of us had had tibs before. We both wanted to sample from her plate, and she was nice enough to let us. The beef tenderloin strips were very tasty but I am not a fan of the Ethiopian flatbread. Overall, both of our visits were great! It is a bit pricey, which is the only reason we do not go there more often.

Started out with the jerk chicken bao, which was sweet and spicy, topped with pickled and fried onions. The sauce had a nice kick and the chicken was very tender. For our mains, we chose the salmon tibs (side of cabbage and red lentils, served with injera), and grilled red snapper (which came with fried plantains and black rice). The portions were huge! We all loved the snapper the most and thought the accompanying rice was incredible - it had a vaguely coconut-y aroma and was super fluffy. I personally thought the red lentils were one of the best parts of the whole meal (kinda "warm" spices, so perfect for fall). The restaurant is pretty big and could use a little renovation/update, but we were comfy in our booth and thought the decor was cute. Our server was super sweet and gave great recommendations. All around great experience!
