With someone as indecisive as myself she makes it easy to achieve the look and feel I want but cannot always express so simply. Whether I'm in for a simple trim or a complete transformation including length and color, she makes sure I leave happy and with increased knowledge as to what products she recommends and how to style and keep my locks healthy and looking fabulous. It's always been a challenge to maintain my hair as it's so easy to whip out the old faithful bun routine, but with her help I now love getting into her chair and have had fun experimenting with different hairstyles and techniques utilizing her guidance and expertise. I've recommended her to my friends and family, and those who have taken my word left the salon more than satisfied with the results. As long as Ashley remains in Jax, I shall be her faithful client! Less than two weeks ago, I took my youngest to another salon for a haircut. When we got home, I realized her hair was uneven and was longer on the left side. Instead of going back to the same salon to have it fixed, I decided to take both my girls to the Cut 4 Confidence event. This was our first time at this event / salon, however this is the 8th year that the salon hosted the event. They offer free haircuts to students in K - 12th grade in order to send kids back to school with confidence. I first called to make an appt but was told that appointments are not taken and you just show up. The lady that took my call was very friendly and told me they normally have between 80 - 100 students. She said it seems like a lot, but there are stylists from other salons to help out. Sunday was the day of the event and normally the salon is closed. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Mary. We didn't get there as early as I would have liked so we were placed on a long list. They had snowcones, bottled water, face painting, bracelet making, and nail painting. Eventually it was the girls turn and both of their stylist names were Mandy. My oldest dreaded going back to school and hate getting her haircut but Mandy was awesome. She tried to convince my daughter why she shouldn't be afraid to get her haircut and even gave me tips how to curl her hair. The other Mandy was great as well. They both took the time to style the girls' hair. While I was waiting, I asked one of the staff about breaking a larger bill so I could tip the stylists. The staff member asked the owner, and told me not to worry about it. I was very surprised and felt bad not being able to, but very appreciative of the generosity and all the hard work that went into this event. The owner, Kimberly (Ms. Kim as some people referred to her) was super friendly and energetic. You you can tell she was adored by many. A young lady name McKenzie (not sure if she works here or helping out from another salon) was sweet and helpful. Everyone was welcoming and seem passionate about what they do. Truly amazing people!! When we left around noon, I noticed there were 114 names on the list! In the end, my girls were glad I dragged them here. It definitely gave them the extra confidence to go back to school on Monday.

By December 2021, my hair had finally grown out a bit, but came in much darker than it had been previously. It was depressing! I read about Hidden Hills on Next Door and then checked out their website, which includes info on each stylist. I decided to book an appointment with Vanessa, because she is from SC, same as me, and it seemed we had some things in common. Vanessa highlighted my very short hair and gave it a little trim to shape it up. When Vanessa washed out my hair and pulled the towel off, I saw myself in the mirror, looking more like the "real" me than I'd seen in almost a year! I shed a few tears and pretty sure Vanessa did too. Yesterday I went back to Vanessa for another highlight and trim. My hair had grown a LOT, but my roots needed help! Well, Vanessa did it again! It took longer to do the highlights this time since my hair was longer, but Vanessa patiently painted the solution onto my hair and wrapped it in foils. Once again, Vanessa hit a home run! It's going to take a long time for my hair to get back to its previous shoulder + length. But every day I feel closer to the "old" me, and Vanessa's expertise is a big part of that! My hair was so unevenly cut, and does not grow quickly, so before it can grow, it dies. I am now stuck with shoulder length hair, unless it can magically grow faster than it dies. Hard to do when someone pours bleach on your head and damages it all! Oh, and I found out 2 days later she did this to a friend of mine as well. Certain it's intentional at this point, bc she then charges you to repair it. She wants you to pay to "fill in the spots with color and then tone it." What a joke she is! Oh, and she's working at a salon at the beach now. So be careful of April's at the beach, it could be her. A former coworker did my hair, and knew it was her, once I explained why my hair is in this condition. She apparently did this to several clients and was then fired. She's bounced between multiple salons doing this.

On the day of my appointment, while I was already on my way to the salon, I received a call from the receptionist informing me that my appointment was being canceled last minute. Instead of offering a solution or urgency in rebooking, I was told it would be another two weeks before I could be scheduled for the same service. The only compromise offered was to split the services -- haircut one week, color the next -- which was not ideal, nor what I had booked or planned for. It was implied that the cancellation was due to my stylist calling out, and while no direct explanation was given, it happened to be the day after what I believe was their birthday -- which raises questions about the level of professionalism and planning. If something unavoidable came up, I would have appreciated an honest explanation and a sincere effort to accommodate me promptly--especially since I had already made arrangements and was en route. At the time I was working 70 hours a week and I specifically took time out of my workday to go do this seeing as I had no free time. To make matters worse, I later received an automated confirmation for an appointment I never scheduled or approved, which only added to the confusion. The stylists here are also the owners, Patrick and Kevin, which makes the lack of communication and client care even more frustrating. As business owners, I expected better accountability, professionalism, and respect for clients' time. Unfortunately, this experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and I won't be returning.
