This is not a company I would recommend, we recently built a new home and Affordable was the sub used, Problems in all areas, bathroom fixtures, water heater you name it. Since December of 2021 they've been called back and charged us over $350 on the water heater alone. They feel the need to not only charge $100 an hour for service calls but also a "distribution " of $75 per trip. Won't get another dime from us. The technician they sent out could use some continuing Ed on customer service too. read more

Hired affordable heating and cooling to find out why my blower won't shutoff.so they send a guy out ,I should say a salesman came out told me I need a Whole new furnace ,said my valves were bad,and quoted me a price of 3500.00 installed. After he left I got to looking one of my resets were tripped,and the thermostat wire from upstairs was corroded.fixed myself for 20 bucks.so obviously the serviceman I mean the salesman didn't even bother fixing anything.just wanted to sell me thousands of dollars worth of equipment not needed.DONT HIRE THESE PEOPLE IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT SOMETHING FIXED. read more

I called to see how much it cost me to get them from Cedar. Rapids to Kyoto Iowa. And it'll cost me $495. Just to get the guy from Cedar. Rapids to Kyoto 2 fix or look at the heater. But that's not even including him walking in my door how's anybody supposed to afford this? read more

Scheduled an appointment 2 weeks out, on day of appointment they called saying the couldn't make it unless we paid extra for after hours (even though it was our appointment day) we said we would pay... at about 8pm when no one had arrived we called and asked if they could come the next business day. Our elderly neighbor had Affordable Heating install a new furnace. When he left, we had an awful gas leak that filled the hallway of our 4-plex . We had the Coralville Fire Dept. and Mid America Gas check out the leak, and were instructed to evacuate the premises immediately. The tech from Affordable said that the connection at the manifold was so tight that he could hardly loosen it. That was after the Mid America rep had tightened it . He also left the building without giving any instruction on the operation of the programable thermostat, and the furnace was not operating. If a light switch had been flipped, we would have been the next people on the moon. I feel that if there had any problem with previously installed equipment, the resident of the unit should have been advised . H Hannam read more

We had to wait three weeks and pay $200 to get a part replaced UNDER WARRANTY. Never again. Stay away from Affordable Heating and Cooling.

I truly wish there was a way to put a zero star rating, but my review will say it all. Please read this review all the way through. 4 weeks ago we had a tech come out to service our AC unit as it was not working. He did a full inspection and told us everything looked great and we were just out of refrigerant. He added 4lbs of refrigerant and billed us $425.00 which we paid. 2 weeks later we went to turn the AC on and it was not working. We called back and had another technician come out, who then told us that we had a leak as we were out of refrigerant. They did not tell us where the leak was or what was causing the leak, in fact they told us to search ourselves for a leak. When I asked for a refund of the money, he told us that we had a new technician do the work, and he should have caught the leak before ever putting in the refrigerant and we should not have been billed. 1 week later we had another teach come out (3rd tech in 3 weeks) and told us we had a significant leak in the evaporator coil, and with the age of the unit it was a better decision to replace the unit. We asked to have the previous money we spent ($425) applied towards the bill of a new unit which they would not comply with and in turn only offered $150 off their quote. Today, I spoke with Ray Vasser-VP of the company regarding the refund, and he was extremely unprofessional and would not refund us the money simply because we went with a different company. He then proceeded to make threats to put a lien on us, and decided to bill us an additional $200 for the other 2 service visits, even though they were with the 30 day window of the first visit. This company simply charged us an erroneous $425.00 charge for service that should have never been done and all I asked for was a refund. The leak should have been found in the full inspection in the first visit, and in turn we receive another $200 bill putting our total paid at $625 and still are without AC and fixed nothing. It was extremely complicated and a disaster dealing with them and to my experience is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. Also, the amount of time it takes for them to get back to you is ridiculous as well. Please do yourself a favor and save your time even contacting this joke of a company and take your business else where because they are simply a horrible company unwilling to work with their customers. read more

We had no heat this winter and reached out to Affordable Heating. I WILL NOT make this mistake again and I would encourage anyone NOT TO CALL THEM! They came out quickly but we discovered (from MidAmerican the next late morning) they BROKE the piece they fixed which caused a GAS LEAK! They changed us near $800! We discovered the smell of gas the next morning and called them right away. They said they would be out. They didn't show up until 11:45 AM. By then, we contacted another area heating company who told us if we smelled gas to leave our house and call MidAmerican!!! We did and they came to our house and found the broken installed part and shut off the gas to our house. The other area heating company came over that afternoon and after another $300 we were able to have it correctly fixed. I contacted Affordable Heating to let them know of this breakdown in communication, our concerns, etc. and they said they would credit us the service call (approx. $100) and give us a free year of service. After a few weeks of considering I called them back to accept. They have yet to return my call and provide this promised credit. WHAT A JOKE OF A COMPANY! DO NOT USE THEM EVER! Affordable Heating and Cooling 9525 Hwy. 151 Anamosa, IA 52205 Dear Sirs, On 7/3/18 your tech rep Dave G. serviced my AC which had a non-functioning fan. He was pleasant and knowledgeable. He found the problem right away and knew exactly how to fix it. He did have to go to Lowes to get a pair of 50 Amp Fuses. For which I was charged $71.47. Lowes sells these fuses for about $4 a pair. Dave also replaced a capacitor for which I was charged $142.04. These capacitors typically sell from$19 to $35. Would you please explain the outrageous mark up in price of these items? Call within an hour of them opening and left a message. Got a return call about a few hours later and the lady apologized that they were having some issues with their phones and what not. She tells me that they are not busy that day (this is around 1030 or 11 am) and should have no issues getting to me fairly shortly. After waiting all day still had not heard from anyone so my landlord tries to follow up And supposedly they will get to us sometime tonight which is great I think at the time ...10:00 p.m. rolls around and haven't heard a single thing from them. Might have been nice if they just would have told me they were too busy Because I could have easily found someone else. So now I am on night two without a furnace and temps in the 20s and apparently I'm going to need To get an airbnb or hotel Room for the weekend since I will have children in my home and obviously they can't be here without heat. And all of this inconvenience probably could have been prevented with a little communication!! read more

AVOID THIS BUSINESS IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME OR SANITY!!! * Twice they have not shown for scheduled service appointments. the did not call to alert us they would not show up. * They are unable to track down issues. A duct work issue we have has taken more than 7 service calls. The issue is still not resolved. * They are unable to successfully submit a manufacturer's rebate form. First rebate submission Affordable made a mistake and the rebate was denied. I had to escalate the issue to Ray Vasser (VP of Operations) for the rebate to be resubmitted. It's been 10 weeks since the second submission and I cannot get anyone at Affordable to return my call. I've left messages with Ray, emailed Ray, left voicemails with Jody who does the rebates and spoken to a few others in the office. Nobody knows anything or will not call back. I've waited over 5 months for a $300 rebate and I fear that money is long gone. * They do NOT value you as a customer. * They have serious communication issues within the business and to their customers. Even the simplest of issues requires 3-4 phone calls. If you have a VERY simple HVAC issue and do not care if your appointment is kept, Affordable has some very kind servicemen and they do good work. If you have a complex issue that needs to be resolved, if you need any sort of customer service, if you will be submitting a rebate form or if you simply want to give your business to a company that values its customers.... Affordable installed a high efficiency furnace in my home that began leaking a few days later. They charged me am additional service fee to come out and repair their install, but it is still leaking. Extremely unhappy about my level of service. I'll be happy to update my review if they make good on their guarantee and fix the leak! If you see no update, my furnace is still leaking! read more

Just don't. Our furnace has been tripping the breaker since they installed it 2 years ago and they don't have a clue how to fix it. Many technicians have come out and have tried many different things, but nothing has worked. Frustrating. read more
