The front operations manager asked if I had gotten a notice that they have new dr's but honestly, I don't recall if I ever did because my past appointments kept getting cancelled for over 5 months now. The new dentist, Dr. Lemon, examines my teeth, DRAGS the probe along my gums, I can taste the blood at this point but I sit through. He tells me he wants to do an onlay on a tooth I just recently had a filling for during my past visit??? Why do I need to do another procedure to fix a tooth that was already fixed?! And they want me to pay out of pocket because my insurance won't cover? Anyway, this will be the last visit from me at this location. I called specifically wanting a routine cleaning, and it wasn't explained to me that I would actually be coming in for a first-time patient evaluation instead. I understand that may have been my misunderstanding, and by itself it wouldn't have been a huge issue, but I took two hours off work expecting a cleaning and ended up being there for 15 minutes at most. It just added to the overall disappointing experience and I wish this would have been better communicated to me. For context, I've gone to the same dentist twice a year for the past 20 years. Who I never once revived a surprise bill from in all those 20 years! This was actually the first year I had fallen behind because of insurance issues, so I was really looking forward to finally getting my teeth cleaned. Instead, I left with a quote for around $1,000 worth of dental work and later received a claim showing that I owe approximately $400 because additional photos were taken of my teeth that my insurance did not cover. When this was suppose to be a Preventative appointment with a $0 co-pay. When I left the office there was no copay so they clearly never even checked to see if their photos would be covered under my specific plan ! This was after they had already taken X-ray photos ( that were covered). Every insurance plan is different, so assuming something will be covered it's extremely unprofessional in my option. And before they blame this on my insurance, my insurance covered the preventative services I went in for. The issue was the additional digital photos that were taken after the X-rays, which were apparently not covered. If an office is going to perform additional services, especially during what the patient believes is a preventative exam, the office should be verifying what is actually covered by that patient's specific insurance and informing them beforehand if they may be charged hundreds of dollars. I was not told I would be charged for these photos, and now I'm facing a roughly $400 bill for an exam I was told had no copay. If you're a new patient, I would ask before they take any additional digital photos of your teeth whether your insurance actually covers them or else you'll end of paying hundreds of dollars. The actual appointment was also extremely brief probably less than 10 minutes. The dentist told me I had no cavities, but I did not feel like my mouth was even thoroughly examined. There was no light used for an actual examination, and I didn't feel like my teeth were properly looked at before being told that I needed around $1,000 worth of work. what's funny is that when I told them that $1000 was a lot of money they immediately just offered me a payment plan .... Adding to it just not even feeling like they care . What's crazier is I noticed what appeared to be three cavities myself at home !!!! I'm not a dentist, but it was concerning to me that I could notice cavities when I had just been told I had zero cavities. I would have been completely fine being told that I needed $1,000 worth of dental work. My issue is that the overall experience left me feeling like the focus was more on how much work could be done than on actually caring for my teeth. I want to feel like my dentist is genuinely concerned about my dental health, especially if I'm being asked to spend $1,000 on treatment. Also, I was told someone would call me back about scheduling a regular cleaning, but I never received that call. However, I did receive an email fairly quickly regarding scheduling the $1,000 worth of treatment which is funny. Again, this is based on one appointment and my personal experience. I can't speak for anyone else's experience with this office. Unfortunately, mine left me feeling like the focus was more on money than caring about my teeth.

In 2024, I switched insurance after starting a new job and needed a dentist because one of my fillings had cracked. I was completely transparent with Dr. Bautista and the front desk about my financial situation. I explained that my insurance coverage was limited but would improve later, and I asked for the best option with that in mind. Instead, I was pushed toward getting a crown. I trusted the recommendation because I assumed the dentist had my best interest in mind. I spent thousands of dollars I could barely afford, only to later learn--after seeing three other dentists--that a crown likely wasn't necessary at the time. The filling could have been repaired temporarily and reevaluated once my insurance improved. That option was never meaningfully presented to me. The procedure itself was a disaster. The temporary crown was fitted incorrectly, forcing me to return multiple times. Then the permanent crown was also poorly fitted. For the next two years, I lived with constant pain and discomfort, believing that maybe this was just something I had to accept. A week ago, the crown fell off completely. My new dentist immediately identified that the crown had been poorly fitted. I now need an entirely new crown and may even need a root canal because of it. And somehow it gets worse. Because South River Dental has a five-year warranty on this crown, my insurance will not cover replacing it with another provider. I no longer live in Northern California, and I have absolutely no intention of returning to this office after what I've experienced. When I called to ask what my options were, I was transferred repeatedly, hung up on twice, and told a specialist would call me back. No one ever did. I also could not reach a manager. This experience has cost me thousands of dollars, two years of pain, and now another expensive dental procedure that could have been avoided. The lack of accountability and customer service afterward has only made it worse. I regret even searching for a new dentist and this office has made a regular visit to the dentist a horror story.

I came in as an emergency after falling and cracking four teeth. Three of them were badly chipped and had significant decay. Despite how overwhelming it felt, they treated me with so much gentleness, patience, and compassion. They took the time to explain everything, worked carefully, and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. They were even able to shave the teeth down and place caps the same day, and I left with temporary teeth something I am incredibly grateful for. Every staff member was kind, welcoming, and warm, which made all the difference. This experience honestly restored my trust in dental care.
