My daughter is having problems with her garage door and opener. I called a, supposedly, highly rated garage door repair company. They told me the door had a Crack in it and needed to be replaced because that door was no longer made and parts were not available. By California law, a new opener also had to be installed. No new door can be installed without installing a new opener, because it has to have a battery back-up. I called John, from Afford-A-Door in Lodi. He came out. What can I say but the guy is a flake and did not show up for three scheduled appointments. We started off well, John showing up as appointed to give me what sounded like a fair estimate. We scheduled for the 29th but 15 minutes before he was scheduled to show, I get a text saying he would not make it and re-scheduling for Wednesday (yesterday). He does not show again and when asked, he claims he had me scheduled for Thursday (today). Okay, so it's Thursday morning and still no John. Called John this morning, he was out to help within 2 hours... he was at another job at the time. Came out assessed what was wrong, the gear that drives the chain/belt to open and close the door had broke. He gave me an estimate over the phone, and that was the price I paid. No bait and switch or "well you see there is this..." Once he fixed the gear he oiled all the hinges and then noticed that one side was catching when it came down. He looked at it for a minute... took out his drill 2 minutes later no more CLANG when the door is coming down. And no extra fee for the small repair or the oiling either.
