I was made to believe that this was really just "my kid". Since 2021, I have heard many stories that are the exact same as ours, just yesterday another one of my sisters friends had the SAME experience. I feel obligated to share. My son went to Schodack in the summer of 2021 and will never try another sleepaway camp as he is truly scarred (as are we as parents). He is missing this beautiful opportunity because Schodack is ill equipped to handle children. To sum it up, the directors and owners called me at least 3 DAYS A WEEK to tell me my child was sad, homesick, "emotionally distressed" and that this was not normal. I was under the impression homesickness was normal for a first time camper (I was homesick when I first went to sleepaway). Regardless, after a couple of weeks (he was only there for 3 and 1/2), they asked that I COME AND GET HIM because his "sadness wasn't good for the other children. Since that summer I have heard from numerous families through friends of friends that have too said the owners called them and asked them to also PICK UP THEIR HOMESICK CHILDREN! I have never heard of such a thing and feel truly sad that my son missed out on what could have been a great experience, he will never give sleepaway another try after his awful Schodack experience. Terrible Directors & Terrible Owners. I do NOT recommend sending your children here.

The cabins were really nice and clean upon arrival. There were bathrooms and sinks in the cabins which was awesome. A small bathhouse was not far away with really nice showers. The only thing I could say was they were advertised as heated and defenitly were not! The kitchen staff was incredible in serving up three meals a day with snacks in between. They were amazing at catering to vegan and vegetarian's as well! The camp staff in general was awesome. We had several classes including mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and yoga. The staff helped set up materials and walked us through how to properly use them every step of the way. The staff even set up an area for Olympic games and transported water as well. This camp had such a great set up, so many things to do and see, and a staff that made a huge difference in making things run smoothly!

I went through their staff training and joined the staff in the 90's. Now, as an adult with daughters of my own, I send them to Camp Cedarbrook. The number and range of activities are amazing and there is great flexibility in allowing kids to try new things and adjust their schedules when they find what they love. Hilary responded promptly to my email request and was happy to oblige this week. She took care to explain the brushing and saddling process, took her around the ring teaching as she went, and then had her take care of her horse after the ride. I appreciated her attention and care with my daughter- she was really great. It was a lovely farm - we even saw a Doe and her two fawns, as well as a turkey while riding. I've recommended she be added to the resorts list for the future!
