I love riding horses! I always try and see if there is horseback riding when I go on vacation. This experience did not disappoint in any way. Addy, our guide, was experienced and knowledgeable. She was very friendly as well! The views were absolutely spectacular! My all time favorite part was crossing the small river we needed to cross during the ride. The trail itself was beautiful. There is so much green all around, which is new to me since I am from Arizona! I was told there was a potential to see a black bear so I was always on the lookout for it, I wanted to see one so badly but we unfortunately was unable to see one. They probably knew I wanted to see them so they hid from us. This two hour ride was absolutely worth it! There were multiple spots during our ride when the guide would ask if we wanted to go faster and the whole group said yes. It was quite fun & unique to be on a horse cantering. My husband and I truly enjoyed this experience and we 100% recommend this adventure! read more

Overall not great customer service. Bob was ok and his wife was nice enough. The trail guide who went with our group didn't even introduce herself. Barely any directions were given on how to ride, which would be a problem for new riders. The horses were dead broke (emphasis on dead) which is fine for new riders but extremely boring for experienced riders. The trail was so-so, very brushy and overgrown in a lot of spots, and lots of mosquitos. We got to trot a few times but no mention of cantering even though it is on the website, which is disappointing for experienced riders. I couldn't even ask because the trail guide was too up ahead. Although the website says it's not the usual nose to butt trail ride, it definitely was. The horses just follow eachother and you barely have any control on where they go. They stay extemely close to eachother and you have no freedom. All you see if the trail of horses ahead of you. There were absolutely NO chances to get photos. You'd think for an expensive experience like this we could at least stop for 1-2 minutes to take some photos in the nice scenery but no. When our horses stopped to pee, the trail guide yelled at us to keep them moving. There seemed to be an immense rush even though they were the ones who were running late. We probably didn't start the ride until 15 minutes after the time we scheduled. When we got back, I asked the trail guide for a photo and she seemed annoyed and reluctantly took a TERRIBLE photo for me. I'm overall very disappointed in the customer service of this place. As a tourist and activity service they need to learn to be more personable and understand that people want photos and to learn things like the guide's name. read more

This was a really fun diversion for us from the usual fall activities in the Whistler area. After getting a Cowboy high off City Slickers and Westworld, my girlfriend and I decided to go horseback riding, and we absolutely thought this place was a highlight of not only this visit, but all our visits to Whistler in general. We arranged everything with Bob, who also took us out for our ride. I had very vague memories of horseback lessons in my childhood, and this was her first time riding. Nevertheless, he made us feel like seasoned cowhands... if you try to ignore the part where my girlfriend struggled to get her untrusting horse to catch up. We began trotting through some pretty beautiful scenery- meadows, a stream, and even a tiny bit of town. It all felt very magical, and for a moment, we forgot that we were tourists and began imagining that this was normal. Most of the (private?) trails we went through I kept thinking that it would be an amazing place to even hike through, let alone let the horse do the hiking for us. If you do go though, I'd strongly recommend jeans in any event. I was surprised at one or two parts of the trail where we were just riding through reeds(?) that brushed against us. Can't imagine how uncomfortable it would be on bare skin at a canter, let alone how the horses must have felt. And don't do what I do and wear white. For us, the memories will never fade, but I sure hope the stains do! read more

Bob and Kadraya were really awesome at accommodating me - I called last minute at the end of the day in September to see if it was possible to go for a trail ride and it was close to the time they were closing. Kadraya was able to take me solo with nobody else and this girl is an incredibly competent rider. The horses were great, Kadraya was great, and we got to canter a bit, which was fun. I highly recommend riding with Kadraya - especially if you are already an experienced rider and want to do something besides just a regular walk/ trail ride. read more

Hmmm. I really struggled with how I wanted to rate this place. It wasn't awful, and it wasn't amazing. It was good, but not great. Value rise, it's fantastic. $70 for 2 hours. All of the advertising and reviews for this place really sold that this is 'not your typical trail ride.' I've been riding many times and nothing is worse than nose to tail sauntering down a trail. Sadly, I felt that the majority of this ride was just that. Pros: Price. Our guide was very friendly and talkative. We managed a few trots on the trails. We crossed a pretty deep creek which was awesome. The views are beautiful. Cons: A good half hour each way (it seemed) was spent on the paved road and behind houses on the way to the trail. Meh. They make you wear smelly hats. My husband and my stirrups were too long which made trotting awkward. Advertising was misleading, if it was advertised as your typical trail ride I wouldn't have been disappointed. I had a good time but was a little bummed about the time spent on the road. I can see this being a great ride for a family with children, and absolutely recommend this place for a novice or beginner. If you have experience, you might crave a little more. Next time we're in Pemberton we'll probably try somewhere else. read more

Since our group of 3 were somewhat comfortable on horses, the 2 lovely guides gave us a bit of free rein, so to speak. Epic ride! My son and I were looking for a ride and we got one! They were able to accommodate us the same day we called. Beautiful 2 hour ride, Shaneika & Kadraya were amazing. If you're an experienced rider tired of the typical nose to tail trail ride, this is the place! What a wonderful time with Bob (our guide and the owner of the business) and Adventures on Horseback. In April in Whistler, its hard to find a trail ride, but Adventures on Horseback is open all year round and quite responsive. And the ride was great, it felt real. Stream crossings, trail blazing, meadows, forests, etc., which might be typical for any trail riding company. But on top of these sights, what was really cool and new for us was riding in town, crossing streets and having cars yield to us. The village of Pemberton has grown up around the ranches, but the trails remain. It feels very Canadian to be honest....that probably sounds corny but I seek out real experiences for my daughters and myself, not touristy places. Happy to say I was not disappointed. I should also say the horses were beautiful and Bob was fun with a lot of information. What a great day! read more

We really enjoyed our ride today. We had a 5 year old and 6.5 year old with us and it was like their dream come true. I was really surprised that they were allowed to go on their own. Another place we contacted would only let my 5 year old ride if somebody walked along side her, holding the reigns. It's one of the things that sold me on Bob's place. The trail was cool, the horses were really healthy looking and well trained. It was wonderful. I think that, if my whole family was more experienced, we could have done more with the horses. As it was, they had my kids going at a trot and they were thrilled. An overall great experience. read more

Bob and staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. It's a great trail ride for all levels of riders. The riding is in the bush, open areas for trots and canters, though some water...creeks...but quite deep. The price is right and the scenery is wonderful. Well worth the drive from Vancouver. We had a horrible experience and beware of a dangerous horse named Kokanee. We went to Adventure Ranch based on the recommendations from Whistler.com. It was supposed to be a family friendly ride as most of the people in our party were novice riders. The most experienced rider in our group was on the horse named Kokanee (sp). Before we even left the corral, Kokanee had violently thrown this person and she ended up with 2 broken bones in her back, is facing a very long & painful recovery and currently unable to work. Beware of Kokanee as it's thrown our other riders in the past (see Trip Advisor for more details). read more

Unlike the one posting I saw here, I couldn't disagree more. I wonder if this person is connected to Adventures on Horseback. Bob is friendly enough the first time you meet him. The trails are o.k. but unless you don't mind being eaten alive by mosquitoes or have thorny overgrowth constantly scraping against you I couldn't see why the other review raved about it. I went three or four time last summer and each time there was something that degraded my experience. The last time my wife was tossed a horse that was 22 years old! It was so ornery that the guide switched and she had allot of difficulty with it, I felt it was inappropriate to have had this horse out at all as it was normally out in the field and hated to be around other horses. That was the last time I wanted to bother. I also felt Bob didn't really respect the fact we had been repeat customers and although on one occasion we were 10 minutes late he cut the three hour private ride we had arranged to only two but didn't bother having the guide inform us of this. It's not like it's around the corner and for 10 minutes I thought that was rather short sighted of him to do considering we were repeat customers. Bob also said each time he would take us out on the next ride but never did. It's quite the haul for a mediocre experience.By the way I am a well seasoned rider and it's pretty well impossible for someone with horse riding experience to expect to rent a horse and not go through a head to tail boring trail ride. This is virtually what happens with all of them except the trails in Pemberton and very overgrown and seriously Malaria mosquito infested hell holes. read more
