I have been living in the LA Area my entire life and only recently decided to give surfing a try. Jason was recommended by a friend and I cannot overstate how great of an experience learning to surf with him has been. His positive attitude is contagious and you can tell he genuinely loves surfing and is excited to share it with others. The first time we went out Jason took care of everything including picking a surf spot that was out of the way with basically nobody around (perfect for someone that doesn't want to accidentally get in the way of other surfers), brought the surfboards we needed and wetsuits. I wasn't able to stand up immediately, but Jason was patient and was able to set small goals for each wave while we were out there. It did not take long before I was able to stand up and am now standing up consistently and having an absolute blast every time I go out. I now look forward to going out to surf as often as possible (pretty much every weekend now) and continue to get better. I am in my mid 60's and surfing has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. I booked a lesson with Jason at Adventures In Malibu. He took into consideration past injuries and hip replacement surgery I had last year. He surprised me with his general knowledge of fitness. We began by doing some gentle stretching then followed by learning some of the surfing basics on land. All I can say is that this guys KNOWS HIS STUFF. After about 20 minutes of being coached on the beach we were out in the surf. Jason was so patient with me and after acclimating to the water temperature it was time to actually surf. Jason held the back of my board and we rode into our first wave. On his cue of "up." I stood up. I WAS SURFING. What an experience. I hope women of all ages, including mine take the time to overcome their fears or just experience life with Jason. Jason Rogland is not only a nice and personable guy, he also is a great teacher. After a few minutes of theory on the beach (covering the surf etiquette, water safety, and pop-up technique), you will definitely spend all of your time in the water. Jason will happily share his extensive knowledge of the ocean and the sport, meet you at your level, and give you tips to progress faster. You will undoubtedly learn from the best, since he also is a pro surfer and has spent many years competing across the globe. As if this wasn't enough, he is a lifeguard, as well as Red Cross CPR and first-aid certified, so you will also be as safe as it gets. I feel so lucky to have him as an instructor and have developed a passion for surfing. I have now become a regular and have sent several friends to him - everyone is very happy. When I first met Jason I had one surf lesson under my belt. But I was still pretty scared of the ocean, and worried that I might aggravate a lower back injury. Jason quickly put me at ease. He taught me a special technique to pop up that kept my back safe and pain-free. In the water, he didn't leave my side for a single second, helping me to punch through and...within minutes, ride my first waves! The feeling was incredible -- and hearing Jason cheer me on was the icing on the cake. Jason is hands down the best instructor I've had when it comes to tackling a new sport. I wanted to learn how to surf with my son (neither of us have any experience) and from the moment he met us in the parking lot at the beach he made sure we were taken care of. He understands how to communicate the important stuff while still making it incredibly fun. I felt safe with him looking over my son which was a obviously a big concern of mine. The whole experience was better than I could have imagined. I've already taken two lessons and plan to keep going as long as it takes us to learn how to shred properly! After many times of attempting to surf and failing. I thought I would give it one more try. I am so happy I found Jason because he is without a doubt the best surfing instructor/ coach/ mentor I have ever had! Wow. Not only does he instantly treat you like a friend and takes time to get to know you-he has a wonderful enthusiasm to boot. He takes the time to watch you and articulates your strengths and weaknesses.  His many years as a Pro surfer has given him the expert knowledge to break it down in simple terms and great analogies.  He had excellent equipment and was even so thoughtful as to bring me a fresh Green Juice for after the lesson. Jason is a great instructor and we had a wonderful day surfing with him. Jason gave "first-day-ever" lessons to me (older guy) and my two daughters and their two friends (ages 9-12). We all stood up, enjoyed ourselves, and had a great day on the beach. The gear was in great condition, and Jason knew the beach intimately, as he grew up and surfed there as kid. He's an incredibly upbeat and interesting guy to talk with, and has great enthusiasm for what he's doing. He's also excellent with kids and made sure they had a good time, even though it was actually a bit rough when we were out. I'd definitely take another lesson with him again, would recommend him to anyone, and would give him 10 stars instead of 5 if I had that choice! read more

Okay so let me just tell you these guys are the best. Not only are they super sweet but also very knowledgeable. Coming from Seattle I've never been surfing (obviously) but always wanted to try. I was definitely nervous but Jason put me at ease immediately. You could say he held my hand the entire time. Anyways... We met at a private beach which was super easy to find and Jason was there to greet me.. He suited me up in what seemed like brand new equipment. After learning the basics on the beach we got out into the water and I stood up on my first try! I am hooked! Learning to surf with Jason is an absolute gift -- I'm a total newbie and he has taught me so much about the ocean & the waves, not to mention how to hop up on a board and ride on top of them! He's super welcoming and accommodating, makes sure I'm prepped & comfortable before we ever get in the water. And once we're out there is so present & positive, giving me constant feedback to make sure I get as much out of the lesson as possible. I've never had a boring or frustrating lesson with him and I always feel like I get better. Me and my friend came to California to do surf lessons. Our goal was to stand up on the board, and we both did it the first time because we had such a good coach, Jason. He was so good to us and made us feel like pro's! We had the best experience at Adventures in Malibu and can't wait to do it again.
