We took the Anaconda cruise and it was beyond amazing. The entire crew and the guides were just so wonderful. Eric and Kevin ( the two guides) went far beyond their duties as guides. We had people in our group with food allergies and the kitchen staff did an absolute wonderful job keeping that in mind. Each and every item was delicious. The staff kept the entire ship sparking. They will book the cheapest, crappiest accommodations to maximize their own profits. They refuse to give you an itemized receipt for your trip because it was booked as a "package". If you give them critical feedback, their director of 'customer relations' will insult you for being "on a budget". I made the unfortunate mistake of spending $3k with them on a short trip in Argentina. Totally unsafe. You are better off booking a trip on your own. Avoid this company- they are horrible. read more

Completely disappointing and frustrating experience the second time around using this company. There was absolutely nothing even remotely special about the 'package' that was put together by the planner for our trip to Costa Rica. The only value add the 'expert' provided, was the significant $$$ upcharge for every activity / transfer / hotel stay. This was in direct contrast to the experience we had for our trip to Chile in dec '22. It was my mistake to believe that there would be some basic level of care for returning customers. Unfortunately, we had recommended this company to our friends for the same trip and the cringe level of embarrassment as a consequence is beyond anything we could have predicted. (a sure sign that there was some kind of auto pilot engaged internally is the fact that our friends got a send off package saying 'enjoy your trip to Ecuador') There was a complete abdication of any responsibility of the part of Adventure life to the local resource with regard to making bookings/reservations. (if interested see my google review of Hotel Montana De Fuego in La Fortuna). We decided to add tours/activities and were assured by the planner that it was the same price if we went through them or did it directly with the provider. Little did we know that there was nearly a 50% markup. on everything...why ? just because....expensive lesson learned. What made this part of the experience even more frustrating was the repeated insistence on the part of Adv. Life that they were not able to provide details of the pricing for the individual activities because of 'package pricing' it took one email and one phone call to the hotel concierge to get the detailed pricing breakdown The tone was set at the Liberia airport where we had to go looking for our driver who was outside the airport scrolling on his phone. Three nights in a very bad hotel, christmas morning transfer from Arenal to Tamarindo with a stop at and adventure park. there was supposed to be a boxed breakfast for the six of us.....of course it wasn't provided. The cherry on the top was the transport from Tamarindo back to Liberia airport...it was the most outdated dilapidated hyundai van, with no headrests or seatbelts....so much for safety. Spent 2 days on email and phone with the Adventure life Client Relations Director to get the upcharge on the activities and the room charges for the first 3 nights refunded. To be fair this was a straightforward process once there was clarity on how terrible the property we were put up in actually was. But definitely not how I anticipated spending a vacation. To be clear, there are other options for actually complicated trips, and for Costa Rica, there is no logic to being ripped off like this. Forced to edit in response to response from the company: we wouldn't have realized the egregious upcharge on the activities till we asked questions at the hotel. No one from adventure life vetted the property we were put up at. We had to shame them into acknowledging that we were booked into a really bad property. Basic duty of care to paying customers was completely ignored. Forget about the fact that we're repeat customers and brought in new clients as well To be crystal clear...if we hadn't pushed back we would never have known about how crazy the upcharge was. There has still been no acknowledgement about the missing breakfast and the absolutely unacceptable transportation on the way from tamarindo to Liberia airport. To refund money and apologize is a basic requirement in a situation like this... not a favor. read more

We loved our trip into the Amazon of Ecuador. The layout, activities and transfers were all very well planned out and provide plenty of options to adjust to our energy level and interests. Mr. Chris our naturalist guide for the entire trip was top rate! We can't say enough wonderful things about him. All our accommodations were superb. The two hotels in the city were a great place to drop our bags and set off on the next stage. Comfortable with excellent food. The two wildlife lodges were luxury expedition styles. Casa del Suizo had a wonderful pool and dining area and we really appreciated the layout of the family style rooms. The entire lodge was extremely family friendly. Sacha Lodge was the perfect wildlife retreat with all the amenities of home yet settled in the middle of a remote private reserve. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent. Our favorite activities were piranha fishing and the Kapok Treehouse. I also really appreciated how well Adventure Life 24 hours call line handled our 15 hour flight delay. Made sure our pick-up was updated at the airport with the new timeline and gave us clear options of how to handle the tours missed due to our delayed flight. They put my mind at ease. read more

We recently returned from a trip of a lifetime to Peru that we booked with Adventure Life, and I wanted to share our positive experiences. We had been originally scheduled to travel to Peru in 2020, but COVID derailed that trip. We decided to skip 2021 also, as we were still unsure about traveling internationally at that time. Jess Heuermann was a great trip planner and worked well with us to accommodate our needs. After flying to Lima and staying one night at the fine Wyndham Costa del Sol airport hotel, we flew to Cusco and were met by our amazing guide Mario Tribeño. He got us loaded up on the van, and immediately put us at ease. We went back to our hotel and he got us checked in and proceeded to explain how the next eight days of our adventure would unfold. He asked us a few questions so he could customize our tour of Cusco and the Sacred Valley. We then went out for a fantastic Peruvian lunch, and then toured Cusco for the next couple of days with Mario. We felt like rock stars because it was only me, my wife, and our daughter, so we really got personalized attention. We then proceeded to tour the Sacred Valley, and then went on a very memorable four day "Classic Inca Trail" hike. The entire time, Mario was simply fantastic. As a veteran tour guide (he has lived in Peru his whole life, and has hiked the Inca Trail over 400 times) he was very engaging, knowledgeable, and personable. We had been reading up about Peru, the Inca Trail, and especially Machu Picchu for quite some time, but Mario was able to bring all of the many places we visited to life in an entertaining and interesting manner. We really feel like we couldn't have been treated better, and he did an amazing job. On the Inca Trail, we were joined by ten porters from Apumayo Expeditions. They worked very hard and Mario did a great job of facilitating communication between us and the porters. It was amazing to find, during what we thought was simply a bathroom break, a dining tent set up on our very first day of the Inca Trail, where we were treated to a gourmet lunch. The rest of the trip was just as memorable. Mario was a great tour guide and leader, and he was always pointing out interesting Inca ruins or telling us entertaining stories along the trail. He also was a great trip manager, making sure that everyone was well fed and constantly checking on our needs to make sure we were okay. When we arrived at the Sun Gate of Machu Picchu, it was just like a dream come true! The next day, after staying at a nice hotel in Machu Picchu Pueblo, Mario gave us a guided tour of Machu Picchu, then we went out for a delicious lunch, before taking the train back to the Sacred Valley. Mario is a fantastic tour guide and I cannot recommend his services highly enough! We did an add on trip to the Inca Trail tour, and that was to spend four days at the Lake Sandoval Lodge near Puerto Maldonado. It's quite a bit of work just to get here, as Puerto Maldonado (near the Peru-Bolivia border) is about an hour flight from Cusco. To get to the lodge, we took a 45 minute boat trip up the Madre De Dios River, hiked on a boardwalk for two miles, then rowed across the lake in a canoe for 30 minutes. We stayed at the eco-lodge for four days, and went on several nature walks and canoe trips. The lake was filled with many different creatures, including black caimans, piranhas, and snakes. Comically, one of the posted lodge rules was "No swimming in the lake!" Uh...no problem. We also saw several different species of birds, monkeys, and insects. The Lake Sandoval Lodge was a great add on, and was exactly what we wanted. It was a vastly different experience than the Inca Trail, and let us see a very different side of Peru. Once again, we had an amazing guide, Yuri, who really helped us make the most of our time in the rainforest. He even took us to the local market in Puerto Maldonado while we were waiting for our flight back to Lima. After all of these adventures, I kind of feel like Indiana Jones! At first I thought, maybe it was just me. Maybe I just had a poor customer service experience with Adventure Life. On my recent trip to Antarctica I met several other passengers, including my roommate who booked through Adventure Life. Each time and immediately they expressed the same exact challenges and concerns when working with Adventure life that I experienced. Being supplied with broken links to resources and documents, vague responses to specific questions, lack of pro-activity from Adventure Life, and a plethora of other issues. But I would recommend using Adventure Life, call them to help find the best dates and trip for you. Then book directly through the tour operators. I met several people on the trip that were able to find and negotiate discounts by skipping the agency and going directly to the tour operator. read more

We took a two week trip to Argentina, visiting Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Bariloche. We were disappointed with the service we received using Adventure Life for our trip to Antarctica. Information was confusing and many emails were sent back and forth for clarification. In the end, some information they provided was wrong, we found out when we arrived on the trip. Responses were sometimes slow. They send lots of information, but it wasn't clear. We just returned from the Galápagos Islands and had an incredible trip. Everything was planned and executed smoothly from start to finish. Someone was at every stop to receive us and make sure we knew where to go and what to do. The accommodations where all five star, and the recommended itinerary was perfect. My son and I recently had a fantastic trip to Antarctica on the M/V Ushuaia (Antarrply Expeditions, arranged through Adventure Life! We chose the M/V Ushuaia because it is a small ship and I wanted expedition style cruising (the necessities without unnecessary luxury); I got all of that. I chose our specific cruise (Feb 17-28) because it went below the polar circle. Fascinating wildlife, lots of history and gorgeous scenery. M/V Ushuaia is an excellent and comfortable ship. Staff took great care of us. Meals were excellent; not luxury cruise but every meal was tasty and well prepared. Expedition staff were friendly, knowledgeable and very safety conscious. Adventure Life did a great job in helping me organize this trip. Molly Hutchison helped me with options (which ship and dates) and Sarah Cornellier handled the nuts and bolts of forms and travel. All in all a great trip - completely satisfied with Adventure Life, M/V Ushuaia, our guides and staff. Adventure Life was the company we chose to go with to visit the Rain Forest in Costa Rica. To learn about the wild, live in the wild and off the land as well as do some activities such as climbing & rapelling, trekking, white water rafting, etc. Adventure Life and their contractors who provided the services, Selva Bananito an ecotourism lodge in the Talamanca Range (La Amistad Preserve) and Exploradores Outdoors with their guides, staff and hosts were outstanding. A memorable trip that made me appreciate the planet even more and educated me even further about the intricacies about the web of life and the importance of sustainability to help the planet thrive and make it livable for animals of all kinds (insects to large mammals, including the bipedal homosapien). We went with this company to Machu Picchu, Peru, about 10 years ago for our 25th anniversary and now, here we are for our 35th anniversary planning our visit to Costa Rica. We came back to Adventure Life because of the phenomenal trip we had in Peru. We saw more and did more than we could have ever seen on our own. Adventure Life uses local nationals as guides and we saw people's homes, experienced the culture as only a local could. Our guide even had our group over to his home for dinner! It was like we were family. I'm even more impressed that Adventure Life accommodated us through the Covid chaos! We were scheduled in March 2019 to go to Costa Rica, but the week we planned to leave, travel restrictions and border closings were being mandated. We delayed our trip until now, February 2021, only to have inclement weather interrupt our flights at the last minute (as we were walking out the door to the airport!) Sara immediately contacted the company in Costa Rica and rescheduled everything without any problems. This is the absolute best way to see and experience a country and have all possible obstacles taken care of by the wonderful staff at Adventure Life. No wasted money, time or nerves. read more

I expected an apology, but I never heard from Adventure Life regarding their dropping the ball during our Bangkok visit with 1) supplying an initial contact phone number for a guide who had never heard of me; 2) no or late return emails or calls to sort logistics out; or any one of a number of problems (concierge? hah!). The people at the (excellent) subcontracted local travel agency Khiri worked on the fly to get stuff done, but being met in Cambodia with a sign naming my son and not me as the contact confirmed for me that all planning was being done last minute by Khiri. I bet I could have saved over a thousand dollars by booking our tours directly through Khiri. And then I would have known what was going on each day without wondering whether we would be picked up or not. All I can say is beware of everything before depositing any money!! I had booked a trip to Macho Picchu and made it very clear I would only deposit if I would be refunded 100% for any reason before final payment was due. I also made it very clear not to purchase any non-refundable tickets, passes etc. The country closed due to covid19 and my trip was canceled. I was offered to rebook at the same pricing for the following year. Again I made it clear if I could not go I would expect a 100% refund before final payment. I can not make the trip for vacation reasons and decided to cancel. I was told I would loose my entire deposit. WHAAAT???? After about three weeks going back and forth with emails and phone calls, I was offered a 50% refund. We went back and forth for another couple weeks and I was only getting a 50% refund or nothing! If the country closes its borders....I should get a 100% refund. I am extremely disappointed and very upset. Be careful of what your getting yourself into. read more

I was the only American on a small ship, the San Jacinto, owned by Solaris with 16 guests and 11 staff. Everything about this week long adventure was first class. The food was amazing and the guides were the best! I would recommend booking a trip through AL to see the best of the Galapagos to anyone. I booked a two-week "Falklands Quest" trip with this company. The correspondence went well with the first person (Kevin), but NOT with the second one (Austin) who disregarded my message for 1.5 weeks. Worst yet: When I arrived at the Falkland Islands, I was lied to, cheated, and ripped off to the tune of over $150, as follows: * I was told that a transfer fee on Saunders Island was 7 pounds, but later I got the bill for 70 pounds (90 US); * The person who ripped me off on Saunders Island charged me $7.00 US for a "foreign exchange fee." * On Sea Lion Island, I was promised in writing, that lunch was included in my Falklands Quest package. Nope! Instead of a sandwich, I was offered a piece of cake available to all guests in the living room. Just came back from a 17 day trip to Argentina. Kate Boyd was very helpful and assisted with setting up wonderful tours, hotels, transportation and guides. Then referred us to a reputable agency for booking the 9 flights we would be taking all over the country. It was not an inexpensive trip but it was a trip of a lifetime...trekking on the Perito Moreno Glacier, seeing the beauty and power of the Iguazu Falls (even taking a river boat ride RIGHT INTO THE FALLS - crazy fun, hiking in Patagonia and getting up close and personal with the cutest penguins and drinking the best Malbec in Mendoza. Just returned from the honeymoon of a lifetime (aka our only honeymoon) planned perfectly by Adventure Life to Patagonia. We did the 8 day Argentina Glacier Adventure which included 2 nights of camping, 2 very different glaciers and LOTS of fantastic hiking and great views. Adventure Life then assisted us in adding on a trip to Torres del Paine in Chile, where we stayed at Hotel Los Torres. From start to finish, Adventure Life was easy to work with instant email replies, reliable service, and budget conscious planners. In Argentina and Chile, everything was planned impeccably-- every where we arrived, we were immediately greeted by a guide or a driver ready to take us to the next point. Hotels were perfect and always perfectly located. They made the whole trip feel like a vacation (even though we hiked the equivalent of a half marathon most days). Adventure Life is professional and has certainly made connections with the right outfitters in Patagonia. World travelers beware of Adventure Life Travel in Montana. We recently traveled to Peru and Ecuador. We traveled for nearly a month without a single glitch except for the planning arrangements that Adventure Life was responsible for. We were responsible for every other detail for our travel without a single hiccup. During our planning for this trip, we were concerned to let AL plan the air travel from Quito to the Galapagos. We tried to get the air tickets ahead of time. We voiced this numerous times with our contact at AL. We get to the airport at 4 am in the morning and NO tickets! Adventure Life blamed the airline for overbooking. I don't care who was at fault, this was AL's job to make this go smoothly. It was extremely uncomfortable and stressful situation. Keep in mind we are supposed to be on vacation. Save yourself the stress and use a quality travel planner. DONT trust Adventure Life with your travel. I would have rated them lower but you can't. read more

Our 10 day trip to Vietnam was fabulous! Adventure Life did an excellent job listening to our interests and putting together an action packed itinerary that met all our expectations and more. We just returned from our 7 day Patagonia Glacier Explorer trip with Adventure Life. It was beautiful. The hiking trails were great. The hotels we stayed at were very friendly and comfortable. We did, however, have a few issues with some arrangements and communications through Adventure Life. They booked a hotel room for us after we told them we did not need a hotel for that night. In which case they had to cancel that hotel and told us we would be receiving a refund, which I am still waiting for. We received our trip itinerary from Adventure Life a couple of weeks before our trip began. There were typos on dates, which as you can imagine can be very unnerving when you are going on a long vacation. This was very confusing since we had other things planned on our own that coincided with these incorrect dates. I pointed this out and a new itinerary was sent to us. Due to this confusion, I had some things to clear up with before we left. It was a few days before the holiday so the woman we were dealing with was away and did not leave other contact info in the company on her "Out of Office" reply. We arranged and paid for a driver to pick us up from the airport at Buenos Aires through Adventure Life since we were arriving very early in the morning. When we arrived we waited an hour with still no driver so we had to take a taxi and pay again. Late drivers and not knowing if they would show became the theme of the trip. We also had to confirm and arrange meals that were supposed to be included with our package. Some other issues included missing driver vouchers and lack of communication in steps that needed to be taken along the way. For instance, we were not told that even though we had a bus ticket we still needed to wait on line to pay for a tax voucher (an example of some extra fees). This type of info should be communicated from the travel group you have paid for to make traveling less confusing. It was a great trip - but just stay on top of all the planning. read more

Trip to Galapagos was awesome. Adventure Life did a good job of transitioning us between Islands. Accommodations were nice for a developing country and National park which is trying to limit development. Food very nice at Red Mangrove lodge in Santa Cruz! Guide named Richardo was patient and very supportive in dealing with two tourists in their late 60s. Only negative was a bumpy 2 hour boat ride between Santa Cruz and Isabella islands. Fortunately, I took some Bonine and hour prior to trip. Guide suggested this. In Quito, we stayed at a beautiful lodge but learned that there are some new hotels near airport which would have been nice to have the choice. My husband and I just returned from our second trip booked by Adventure Life. They are absolutely incredible to work with! This trip was almost a month long! Starting in Chile, then Argentina, then...... ANTARCTICA! It was a truly EPIC adventure thanks to Adventure Life. We went on several day adventures, stayed in many different hotels (even a top notch eco-friendly lodge called Eco Camp), and lastly we went on an Antarctic cruise on the Akademik Ioffe with One Ocean. And with all of that travel, never a missed connection. Never one bit of confusion. Never. Nada. It was a wonderful experience. A true trip of a lifetime! We would highly recommend Adventure Life!
