For as far back as I can remember, I would watch my father painstakingly take hours making his own souvlakia, cramp up from that repetitive movement of threading meat onto skewers that I decided enough was enough - this year for Easter, we buy pre-made. WOAH .. this was a huge deal for him so I had no hesitation recommending he try the lamb souvlakia from here.
You can buy a box of 48 lamb souvlakia for $85, or if you prefer, 48 lamb backstrap souvlakia for $95 (totally recommend these). Each stick has about 6 large cubes of lamb so its great value for money. They do mini lamb ones too at $45 a box I think. They also have chicken souvlakia (I have never tried these so can't comment). Their mini pita breads are a must buy while you're there - nothing better than throwing a few on the BBQ drizzled in olive oil and oregano - slap a souvlaki in the middle, wrap it in the pita, pull on the stick, eat and be happy.
You can also get yourself some beautiful haloumi here and frozen bits and pieces (the standard pastizzi, calamari etc...). read more
