Labor rate At $400.00 per hour! I had a valve in my sprinkler system needing to be replaced. I called John, owner of Advantage Plumbing. He charged me $400.00 per hour for replacing the valve plus charged me substantial more than the valve cost. He said his time is worth the cost. Obviously it's my fault for trusting him and not asking for an estimated cost before he started the repair. Well over $2000.00. he should be ashamed. read more

Called them out for literally a 4 minute job to replace the diaphragm on a Sloan valve. Tried to charge $440. Only a few mile drive with a stop at a supply house on the way, if they didn't have the ~$17 rebuild kit in the truck already. Told them to uninstall it and be on their way. John never sent me a quote and if he did I would have told him not to come. Completely unacceptable price gouging. Also they were 4 hours late. Edit: The business owner contacted me privately. On time- polite- excellent craftsmanship- did not price gouge me- they were able to find the plumbing access to my shower by measuring the center of the house and found it with one small cut in the sheet rock on the first try. They took the time to make sure everything was installed properly in my fiberglass shower/tub combo and saved me about $9,000 from having to rip out the whole shower and pay for a full shower remodel. I think I found my plumber. We just bought a house last year in flower mound and tried a couple of plumbers for different issues including a stopped up sewer. John came highly recommended and we originally had him scheduled to come out to install bathtub fixtures. Then our drain stopped up and he came out immediately the next morning to fix the issue identifying what others had not that there was a hole in our pipe with a root growing through it. 24 hours later John had his out here digging up the pipe. They found some creative plumbing to say the least and identified 3 holes, making sure to fix everything the right way before closing everything up good as new. I called in the morning and he was at my house three hours later to fix a busted pipe on the outside of (which took him less than 30 minutes!) We woke to the sound of water running under our house due to critters chewing through the plastic pipes. The temporary solution was to shut off water to the house. When I called Advanced Plumbing at 7:30am, John understood the problem and sensed the desperation in my voice. In spite of rain and the temperature hovering just above freezing, John worked under my house for over an hour replacing damaged pipe. He provided evidence of the damage and the repairs via pictures so I didn't have to crawl under the house to see it myself. John and his team were courteous, professional, and fast. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend Advanced Plumbing. Since my last experience with them in January, I booked them again. Not long after completing the appointment booking process, they cancelled my appointment. They said they were completely booked *and* my home was too far away. I believe this was, at best, a case of them overbooking and looking to get out of it. My home and their office haven't moved since January, so it isn't too far away. And if they booked the appointment (via automated system - you get texts, etc.) then obviously they have the appointment available in the first place. I would have preferred it be handled differently -- keep the appointment, but then inform me that it's too far for next time (if that's the case), or by keeping the appointment and taking steps to not overbook in the future. The business owner does seem like a god guy and a well known plumber, but the running of the business is important, too, to keep customers happy. read more

This company replied quickly but the person I spoke with was not pleasant on the phone and wanted me to send him all of the relevant info via text message for his convenience rather than writing it down for mine. This struck me as lazy and not very customer service oriented. The quote to replace washers in bathroom sinks was very high at $150 per sink. He quoted me an hour to be there and I told him I need to know that that was accurate since the renter at my sisters rental property which I manage could adjust her schedule. He then changed it to an hour and a half and asked me how far it was from his area (Denton) to the home (Little Elm) - again this struck me as lazy (Google it) and indicated that they do not even know their own service area very well. About 30 minutes after sending him the info he requested my credit card info via text. I told him I wasn't sending that info via text and asked him to call me. The next message was that he could no longer do it because it is not my home - something I told him over the phone. Final analysis: if you manage a rental property or are a remote owner of a rental property this is not the plumbing company for you. Also, if customer service is important to you you may want to consider another. When I hung up I debated whether or not I even wanted to send this person to the home of someone I respect. read more

Kitchen faucet leaking. He told me that I needed to change the sink faucet, so I asked if he could remove the faucet for me and I will install it once the parts arrived. (Note I am a petite and young woman of color) He replied, "You think you could do that? You'll probably break the entire structure." Not only did John replace the spigot and fix the bad previous install, but his masonry work to replace the bricks on our house that were removed while doing the job was excellent.
