After hours on a truck across the country it is wonderful the damage was so limited which shows how well they packed items. You will not be sorry if you hire them.

Tell the company before hiring you will refuse to sign any documents until the load is delivered. It seems that their policy is to simply deny responsibility and if you don't have pictures to prove the damage you are just out of luck. There were other issues but by then I decided it was pointless, I just wanted them gone. The final bill was DOUBLE the estimate, with many highly questionable "add-on" charges that I felt at the time, and still do feel, were a complete scam. I wanted to file a complaint, but frankly, I did not know who to complain to. I created a Yelp account just to speak out about how terrible this company is. My advice to stay far away from this company. My opinion is that they are not trustworthy. Neither with the proper handling of your belongings or with an honest bill at the end. My opinion is that The Apartment Movers is a very shady company and you should avoid them and go with literally anyone else.

In the end I was charged $2400!?!? They hire a handful of NDSU college kids, and don't allow them to take breaks. So after a few hours the kids slow down more and more, and spin their wheels. An extraordinary amount of time was spent staring into the back of the truck "thinking". Also, they used zero moving blankets--mine was a local move--so boxes shifted, antique furniture pieces rubbed together, etc. They damaged the paint on my washer and dryer because they didn't have the dolly straps seated properly. They didn't take responsibility for any of the damages-- it was somehow all my fault (I "didn't pack my boxes carefully enough", they "aren't responsible for antiques", etc. All bullcrap!). I only hired movers because I had a broken wrist and had a total knee replacement 4 months earlier, and I was moving out of a second floor apartment during a pandemic. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND A-1 AT ALL, EVER! Utterly horrible experience.

I had a lot of items that had sustained damage - due to careless packing by a different company - while in transit across country and they were very obliging in documenting and providing me with emailed pics that showed the condition of the items as they found them in the freight container. I would highly recommend this company for their friendly, professional services, careful packing and handling of items, and willingness to work with customers.

Roto-Rooter is all I'd ever heard of but mostly because of their commercials, not reviews. Looking at some online experiences, people were estimating $300-$400, my jaw dropped! Instead, I first called a local company who didn't give me the time of day and was very rude so I decided against them as well. (A little side note here, I can't stand when you tell someone that you just want an estimate and when they give you one, and you say, "I'm gonna call around and get some more, thank you" they go on the defensive and start bashing every other company in town. To me, that's just childish; tell me what sets you apart from other companies in the area and be dignified about it.) Ok, back on point now... I called A-1 a little past 10:00pm and the man I spoke to (I wish I remembered his name because he was great) gave me an estimate and explained what he thought might be the issue. He answered all my questions and said he could have someone out at 8:15am the next morning. I was surprised because the last place couldn't even get me in the next day. Morning came and Tyler from A-1 showed up on time, assessed the situation and within 5 minutes, was laying down drop cloth and rolling in his machine. About an hour later, he was done and now everything drains correctly. The best part, the price I was quoted, was the price I paid! I won't give specifics, but let's say it was probably a little less than half of what I would've paid with Roto-Rooter. Bottom line, a great local company that knows how to talk to customers on the phone, show up on time, and get the job done at the price that was quoted.

They used the built in "outs" to deny our claim. My feeling is the warranty is misleading and not in the spirit of good service you would expect with the price premium.

The booking process with Jason was smooth and easy. He was very professional and responsive. Sean and Josh were right on time and did an excellent job moving our furniture and other items from the ABF trailer to a 26' UHaul, so we could transfer our items from Fargo to Minot (since Fargo was as far as ABF U-Pack would go for our cross-country move). They were friendly, efficient, and professional. Jason even confirmed we were pleased with the work, once Sean and Josh were finished with the job. We highly recommend them! The carpet installer did a good job but left the place a mess. I thought they would have at least cleaned up or vacuumed. The hardwood installer did a good job. Don't remember name, possibly Doug. But Paul overcharged us quite a bit including boxes of hardwood not used by us. Luckily we noticed and told him to change the bill. Not happy with Paul one bit.
