Disorganized and rude. They'll spam your inbox with screeners (in the form of google forms), for which you have to enter the same basic information every time. Then you'll do a phone screener, which has to be during business hours, preferably on-the-spot when they call (or, you're warned, the spots may be filled). Then, sometimes, there's an additional phone screen with the client. All screeners are uncompensated. If you are selected for a study, you won't receive any information about its format beforehand. The emails are poorly formatted and involve a lot of all-caps and red letters. Compensation for the one I did was an Amex gift card, which incurs monthly fees if you don't use it up within 6 months. For another, I participated in four sequential screeners (one google form, then a call, then a word doc, then a call with the "client" who was unaware of the previous two steps), received a focus group enrollment confirmation email, didn't hear anything for more than a week, and wasn't told I "was cancelled" until hours before the focus group start time. New York is filled with better-run organizations looking for focus group participants that won't waste your time. read more

The staff here is extra accommodating and went out of their way for me when I was here last year. Market research can be quite drab when you spend the most part of your day stuck in a dark, freezing room. The facilities were extra clean since it was new. It was never a nuisance no matter how many times I asked the front desk guys to make printouts for me and our designated attendant was sweet enough to run to the store and get a lemon for me! I know, I know. Why a lemon? During a prior research session in Maryland, I had asked for wedges of lemon and they said they had some. 5 minutes later, they were mistaken and did not have any. Our attendant asked me if I wanted her to go to the store and get a few. I hesitated, but said no, so this is how I came to my conclusion at Advanced Focus. If you ever need focus groups, I would highly recommend this facility! BTW...they have a fully stocked fridge with beers and wines. read more

Called the morning of a focus group I was scheduled to attend to let them know I was sick and shouldn't come, was told if I late cancel I won't be eligible for future studies, so I got my sick self to the study only to be told to go home because I had a couch. I had to leave without the promised money even though I warned them I was sick. What a scam. hello first of all I want to say these people are very unprofessional I attended a study and was told that I would receive a check well 3 weeks went by and I hadn't received anything so mind you I had to email the actual people that hired these people to conduct business for them and let them know that I had not received my 400 dollar payment they were very professional they said if I dint receive payment by that next week let them know so I get in touch with the actual office and she was very rude and said we mailed it out today I said excuse me she yelled it next WE JUST MAILED IT OUT so ok I finished the study on oct 30,2019 here it is Wednesday the 20th of November by this time im like what is going on the card arrives today the 23rd and its a card in which the guy told me it would be a check and then I flip it over and it says NO CASH OR ATM ACCESS now what the hell is this all about no one ever said this or I would not have done this survey oh yea and when the card came today its Saturday and they had a SPECIAL NOTE clipped on to the card saying and I quote READ THIS BEFORE USING THIS CARD (I said oh shit) to activate the card I need to email an address and give them the card number my first and last name and phone number(but wait shouldn't you guys have that info already) and then it said your card will be activated in 48 business days mind you its Saturday and it says this card exp and the expire date is only 2 months away wtf. shaking my fucking head.THIS IS CRAZY I WILL NEVER DO A STUDY WITH THESE PEOPLE AGAIN read more

Word of warning: 1) Although we were told our focus group would be two hours, it went over by 23 minutes 2) Compensation is NOT cash, but rather a VISA Debit Rewards card with very expensive fees and a four month expiration period - at NO time during all the "pre-interviews" was I told that I would not be receiving cash. The reason businesses do this, esp with regard to the short term expiration period, is the hope that people either lose or forgot about the card and the money reverts back to the company.
