(We were also asked who referred us at check in, but it was not a problem that we'd booked without one.) We were checked in quickly and given paperwork to complete. My son got called back about 15 minutes after his appointment but we needed a few minutes to do the questionnaire. He saw Dr. Borton and was happy by this visit with her. She confirmed his tinnitus as well as his healthy hearing, and agreed to his request to provide paperwork for school. As his mom I appreciated him having a comfort level with the doctor and leaving with information he'd been seeking. This office hosts several physicians. Their doctors also work downtown on Chestnut Street if that location is preferred. Clean waiting room area. Masks optional. Plenty of parking spaces. (Dutchman's Lane) I did have to wait about hour past my scheduled time which is just the worst in general when you are already anxious about being there, but I will say it did not matter to me at all after I got in. The Dr. (Dr. Sohi) was incredibly nice, informative, empathetic and took care of everything without issue. It was late in the day and I thought they may bump me and have me come back but they didn't do that. They stayed until last patient was done(on a Friday mind you) and I did not feel rushed with patient care at all. If you ever need to see a ENT, this is the place!

I had had sinus surgery performed by another doctor that was not very successful (understatement) and went to him in hopes that he could fix it. He performed a revision sinus surgery and first, the recovery was so much easier than the first surgery and second, the final results are so much better. .The surgeon counts! Pros: very easy to make an appointment. Dr. Higgins is very personable and extremely knowledgeable about all areas of sinuses (and I asked tons of questions). He is up to date on all advances. I never have to wait long to see him. Check out is even easier that check-in. I can't think of any cons. In my opinion, if you have any problems with your sinuses and you live in/near Louisville, Dr. Higgins (he's at Kentuckiana ENT) is the only one you should see.

They could do everyone a favor and join the 21st century by sending out mass text messages like every other doctors office on the planet. There are certain days/times when you also have to wait a long time for a shot that takes about 30 seconds to administer. Again this isn't an insult against anyone who works there, it is a frustration with the management or whoever is in charge of their technology and outreach department.

Welp, just had a myringotomy!…read more "What's a myringotomy", you ask. A myringotomy is a procedure to create a hole in the ear drum to allow fluid that is trapped in the middle ear to drain out. The fluid may be blood, pus and/or water. In my case, he suctioned out a mucus plug. Back in January 2024, I got a sore throat that progressed to a cold and ear infection. I ended up at Urgent Care with antibiotics to treat the infection and ease the pain/pressure. Pain went away, but that feeling of ear fullness/fluid and reduced hearing didn't. My follow-up with my PCP revealed that I may have eustachian tube dysfunction. We tried saline flushes, but also referred me to a specialist. Thus, an appt with Dr. Travis Schutt at the UofL Health Medical Center East. I see why he has such a long waitlist. He's been practicing for 3 years and has incredible bedside + knowledge. He took a peek in my ear and noted that I had amber-colored fluid behind my right ear canal. He discussed three options with me and since I'm a swimmer, we decided on the myringotomy as a best first option. (Versus waiting it out to see if it would drain naturally or myringotomy plus tube insertion.) After explaining the procedure, he put some numbing phenol drops on my eardrum; waited about a minute, made a slit, then suctioned out my inner ear. I could feel when he suctioned the mucous plug. Science/medicine is so cool. Everything, ear, nose, throat is connected. So I asked him if my eustachian tube dysfunction could possibly be the reason I don't smell well. He said yes, it's possible. He's changing up my allergy meds, and starting me on a nose spray. [Fluticasone (Flonase) can reduce inflammation and swelling in the nasal passages.] He took a peek inside my nose, and noted that I have a slight right septum deviation with turbinate hypertrophy. Basically, my allergies cause parts of my nose to swell up and those parts block the olfactories. I've got a follow-up appointment in four weeks. He's going to make sure our interventions are effective, and stick a camera down my nose to get a better look at those sinuses. Again, medicine is amazing. Shout out to Dr. Schutt and his Medical Assistant, Linda. Top-notch care and bedside manner from UofL Health. If you need an ENT, I highly recommend.

Dr. Smith is located in a strip of medical offices behind Amish Hills furniture (turn at the Subway). His nurse takes careful time to go through the testing process with you, and then the Dr. comes in to review. My first testing appointment really did take 4 hours, so know that going in. Vials can be delivered around town for your shots, so other than Drs. visits if it's not convenient to you know you won't have to be there weekly. The office staff is welcoming, most insurances are taken, and office hours are extended on Mondays and Wednesdays for those wanting to go before or after work. I've recommended it to family members who are now patients. It's helped me breathe much easier!
