And like other reviewers here, this practice tries to upsell you and uses subtle pressure tactics like forcing patients to sign a waiver "for legal purposes" just to decline *optional* services. I've never run into this at other practices. If not outright illegal, these methods are certainly unethical. Dr. Jang and his hygienst are fine, but overall this place leaves a bad aftertaste, and not worth being a patient here. My experience lines up almost point for point with the other critical reviews here. I'd treat the 5-star reviews with a healthy dose of skepticism. A lot of them look like bots or paid placements.

Then they scheduled a normal appointment where I got X-rays and they went through them THOROUGHLY with me. They had me get a deep cleaning with laser which that plus my wisdom teeth surgery maxed out my insurance. As soon as my insurance was gone, Dr. Jawad all of a sudden found 5 more cavities on my X-rays and I was told this by the front desk, not her. Then when I asked for a call to understand, she would deflect and not answer my questions as to why she never told me about these cavities when we went over my X-rays. My old dentist in Richmond looked over my X-rays and found ZERO, and said based on them, the deep cleaning was unnecessary. They've already scammed me out of $1k for the deep cleaning out of pocket and tried to get another $1.4k for cavities I don't have. AVOID AVOID AVOID. They try to upcharge and sell procedures that are not fully necessary, and also refuse to give me my records.

I recently had my 6 month regular check up with FC Family Dentistry and was VERY pleased with their level of customer service, care, and friendliness! Dr. Gul was excellent, providing thorough explanations of their approach to cleaning and care and asked me at least twice if I was experiencing any pain during my cleaning (I felt nothing!). Before and after the cleaning she explained why she was recommending X-rays and the three issues she'd identified, stating that she would confirm the level of urgency via the X-rays. The equipment used was modern and Dr. Gul provided a thorough assessment of my teeth and gums based on the X-rays. In the end, she explained that she would continue to monitor the situations vs. take immediate action and counseled me on how to avoid making things worse. This was so refreshing, as many dentists are often looking for ways to charge you for things you may or may not need. Dr. Gul's beside manner and that of her technician's was kind, warm, caring, and gentle. I am so pleased to have found a dental practice that focuses on the needs of their patients and treats them with such warm care vs. rushing them in and out! I came in for a cleaning and the dentist told the assistant to run my xrays through AI. This immediately set off alarm bells for me, as I expect a trained dentist to be able to identify cavities with their eye and not rely on AI, which we know makes mistakes. AI said I had 4 cavities, which I thought sounded like too many because I'm diligent about my dental hygiene. But I went ahead and got two of them filled. On one of the fillings the dentist kept drilling and drilling, and despite being numbed, I could feel it. I raised my hand to say I could feel it and he just stopped and started filling it. I was like - if I hadn't raised my hand, would he have just kept going? I then had persistent pain in the tooth for a week (there was zero pain before) so I went to another dentist for a second opinion. Turns out the dentist had not adjusted the filling to my bite correctly, so the way I was biting was inflaming the nerves in my tooth. Adjusting fillings to bite is Dentistry 101, so why wasn't that done? The new dentist also said he drilled so close to my nerves that I was almost in a root canal situation. Fortunately not, but wow, that really scared me. He also said I only needed one other filling, he didn't at all see this 4th filling I was told I needed. I saw another review on here of a man who was told he needed 7 fillings and then a second opinion said he only needed 4, so this isn't a one-off instance. It seems like this place prioritizes making as much money as possible, and therefore wants to sell as many procedures as possible, regardless of negative health impacts. I was also forced to buy a $30 prescription toothpaste, what a rip-off. They also push their in-house orthodontist heavily on people. I'm happy with my teeth even though they're not perfect, so I was not thrilled about the dentist unprompted telling me all the ways I could make them better with their orthodontist. In this economy?! I'm happy I found another dentist who doesn't put money first.
