Second update: The owner falsely claimed that I own a 2008 Prius and that I requested a check engine light diagnosis and that the "first and last date I was here was 10/22/2018" but my receipts proof otherwise. I'm not sure if we are both talking about the same issue because I went to get new brakes not request a check engine light diagnostic. Considering there was no sigh of my check engine line having gone off until after I went and got my brakes done and the technician let us know it went off and he could fix it for an additional $75. What great customer service. Let me remind you his first comment had to do with me "mistaking" his shop for someone else's and that they don't charge that much for brake services. But I have provided receipts to prove his false comments and claims wrong. Update: Found my receipt and emailed the owner pictures of proof that I was in fact at his shop when I went in and got my breaks done and I have yet to hear back from him. I guess he does not like being proved wrong? In my previous review I stated $500 but I was wrong and I was charged $450.85 upon payment--not that $50 makes much of a difference. My point being that I feel as if I was overcharged and to be told that from other mechanics made me feel like I was taken advantage of. It is hard to find reputable honest mechanics out here and I thought I would give this business the benefit of the doubt. Especially, considering I had just moved to the area and they were walking distance from me. Nonetheless I will take this as a learning experience and make sure to let my neighbors, family, and friends know so they avoid getting over charged and taken advantage of. Not to mention that electrically there was nothing wrong with my car and the mechanic that worked on the brakes Pham told my fiancé and I when we got to the auto shop to pick up our car that the check engine light came on (and he looked at it prior to us having any knowledge of him doing so) and for another $75 he could fix it. Found this shop while looking for Star Smog test station near my house. Was referred here by good reviews of a friend of mine. My car was due for smog test, star. Call to schedule appointment, the service advisor was polite and told me to come on in right away. The smog took about 15 mins, very fast and efficient. They sent my certificate electronically to dmv once it pass. Price was reasonable. The parking lot was easy to enter, and plenty parking. What a joke! I called beforehand and told them my whole issue. He says to come in. I come in. I sit there for 20 minutes waiting. I tell him the whole thing again. He then tells me I need a diagnosis for $120. Didn't tell me anything about this on the phone. Made me waste 45 minutes coming in to tell the same story I told on the phone and get charged $120 for a diagnosis. Could have told me this on the phone and saved me 45 minutes of my work day. Came here on two occasions so far, and am very happy with their service. First I came in for a smog check because they are Gold Shield, and offered a free retest if I failed... and, well, my car doesn't have the cleanest smog history. I failed, no fault of theirs. I applied for CA CAP program to help with repairs. After the approx. $90 out-of-pocket diagnosis CA-sponsored repairs they brought down my emissions a lot and gave me tips. I read up on the topic myself and learned some key things about smog. Frankly, I really think they are honest (my number one priority with car-repair), but clearly expertise is important too... and for that, I would deduct 1/2 a star. I rounded up above because I think they will get better and better with time. My point is that with the repairs they performed they got the emissions down low enough that I think they could have gotten it to pass had they just gotten it hot enough before the last test. However, at least they tried two more times after the initial fail, so it's not like they were being lazy. I ended up having to take it to the referee. I brought it in hot and it passed SUPER clean. They advised me to to go to the referee, which is good for the average consumer... not so much for me since I have FAR too much experience with the CA Ref already... but oh well, that's another story. Another reason to round up is that they are really open to new, improved information. I gave them the step-by step on how I cleaned my car up for the test (in a legal/ethical way) and they took notes and seemed very interested. They mentioned how they would pass this info on to customers. I liked them enough to take my girlfriend's car there when she needed brakes on all four corners. I called around first of course to compare prices. They had one of the best quotes, and they were offering good parts; no corners cut (resurfacing discs, turning, etc). I also live in downtown and they didn't have an enormous wait like a lot of places, so this was hugely convenient. They even buffed out an abrasion caused by a hit and run on the side of the car, free of charge! Anyway, it's been about two months since they did the work and the car still feels great. Very quiet, effortless stopping. I will be returning for my future car-needs that I can't take care of myself. read more

I've brought both my older Volvos ('87 & '94) to Mr. Pham to work on for a couple years now. I am always very satisfied after each visit. It began when my '87 failed smog, and I couldn't afford to repair it, so the State paid $500 to this Gold Shield smog center to enable it to pass. I've also had brake pads installed here ($40 for front or back; brought my own pads). Mr. Pham also replaced the flame trap on my '94 in a quick jiffy. Many mechanics are not familiar with this part, but he knew all about it and did a great job. If you get there 830 to 9am, you will probably be the 1st or 2nd customer and not wait very long. They are also open til 1pm Saturday. The best way to get there from north of downtown is take 5 South and exit at Commercial St., then make the first couple of right-hand turns. I would feel comfortable sending any friend or relative with any kind of vehicle to Mr. Pham. read more

Well, I took my wife's 1995 BMW 318TI to this shop since she had it done there before. They tried to charge me more than they said over the phone. They had the test done, it failed on gas evaporation test. They said they could fix it on next week. I didn't have that much time, I rather took it to my mechanic. I got it tested and found out the leak, some parts got replaced then brought it back here. He did the evap test and car failed again. I was tired of running around, I asked him to fix it. He said somebody already worked on it he can't fix it! WTF dude. Girls don't have that kind of attitude! Apparently; Dave got very offended that I didn't have him rip me off (!) and took the car somewhere else. I took the car another test location. When I told the story the guy told me my car was NOT APPLICABLE for evap test! They did the test and I PASSED it. Now I am going to report Dave to Bureau Of Automotive Repair and DMV. Keep yourself away from Dave, you can find much nicer customer service for much less at anywhere else! read more

Great guys, awesome prices, and service. I have a 2006 Lexus IS 250 and I completely trust them with taking care of my car. They've done a couple smogs on my car, which they do pretty quickly. They've also changed my oil and replaced my front brakes. I usually ask for recommendations for future services so I make sure that my cars running in top shape. I was due for a 90k maintenance and decided to come here to get it done. I am a female and I'm always anxious when visiting a mechanic shop. The last time I went into a shop, I just needed an alignment but they wouldn't do it. They ended up printing me a list of parts that "must be replaced first" which was quoted for around $900. I told them I couldn't afford that and they replied, "Couldn't you ask your parents?" WTF! Needless to say, I took my business elsewhere and got the job done WITHOUT replacing ANY of those parts. So HAH! Anyways, I came here with my guard up not knowing what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. The technician was very friendly and he didn't even try to upsell me. I left my car with them and came back later to pick it up. They replaced my timing belt, tensioner, water pump, changed my front brakes and flushed my transmission fluid. Before I left, I mentioned a loud, annoying sound coming from the car and when I came back to pick up the car, the guy told me it was from my alternator belt and he ended up changing it for me for free! He also threw in an oil change which was really nice because who knows when I'd finally get to that! All in all, it was a great experience and I will definitely make this my go to place for all car related things. My car doesn't sound sick anymore, doesn't squeak when I brake, and I don't have that feeling that something's going to break and I have to come back to get it fixed. I took my car to get smogged here earlier this morning. I called at 8 in the morning. A man with a thick accent said to come in after 930. So i did come in around 10 ish. There was no wait since it was an early monday morning. It only took 30 minutes to find out I failed smog as the tech promised :( but it was 42 bucks afterwards. Original quote was 50 bucks. It's my first time ever smogging a vehicle so I wouldn't know if it's pricey. He also explained how the "CAP" program works and the price of a smog diagnosis plus the parts and repair after finding out what needs to be fixed. The guys there are laid back and answer any question you have to the best of their ability. I just didn't like how there was a lot of less fortunate individuals ( homeless) walking the streets right outside the compound. Btw, the compund is pretty small yet still able to fit (if i remember correctly ) four bays. It's pretty far from house just outside Poway. But it's close to my work. (Naval Base) So I'd recommend this shop. But that's my opinion, your's could be entirely different. Enjoy! read more

We have had great service here. Firestone had charged me over $600 and never fixed the problem. I brought it here, and they had it quickly fixed for a lot less money. I took it to Firestone because they were close to me. Big mistake. Advanced Auto is far from my house but I have gone there several times. I hope these guys get rich being honest. read more
