I have changed my rating from 1 star to 4. Original review: I am so disappointed with our experience at this Golden Rule Brake. I made an appointment for my minivan and brought my toddler and newborn in to have it looked at right after the first snow. I was informed that I needed new pads, rotors and calipers on all 4 wheels, totaling just over $1200. Right before Christmas. Ugh. I had it looked at by two other local mechanics that week, both of which agreed that A) Calipers almost NEVER need to be replaced and B) The front pads and rotors were all that needed to be replaced. So we saved around $1,000 this holiday season. Having dealt with them before (we had brought our other vehicle into the Monroe store in 2011 and they were honest about us not needing to replace our pads yet) we didnt anticipate this outcome. I remember hearing commercials about Golden Rule so I immediately searched them and found that we were less than 2 miles away from this location. We went in and were greeted by a gentleman behind the counter. We told him the situation and he let us know that they were booked for the day but would be happy to look at it after one of the cars were completed. We were so grateful he was willing to get us in we were happy to wait. After one of the other vehicles was finished they pulled our vehicle in. They were able to determine that a rock had gotten behind the caliper and was causing the grinding sound. They removed the Rock and did a inspection to make sure there was no damage, and luckily there wasn't. They were able to determine that our tires brakes and rotors looked great and no additional work was needed. So relieved we went to the counter to see what we owed and were shocked, they weren't charging us at all. They said it was an easy fix and they were happy to help and if we need anything in the future to come back. We are so incredibly grateful for this wonderful company that puts their customers first. We had 1 day to see what we wanted to see in Spokane and I wasn't going to spend it waiting on them. At 2:00 I got a call that I ignored, but had a voice message. The manager invited me back to get a free oil change. At a little after 4, we were driving by anyway and we went back to see if they could either give me a certificate for any LS shop or if it had to be this one. When we pulled in, there were 2 empty stalls. I asked for the manager and he stood by it. We got an 8 quart change, filter, and labor for free and we were on our way in about 20 minutes. I've never been to an LS shop before, but if this is how they handle customer sat, I'm impressed.

First interaction, I called them ahead of time to asked them if they specialize on working with aftermarket coilovers and camber kits on cars. They specifically said, "yes we do we have a dedicated alignment mechanic who works on that." I sent roughly $140 for this service. I waited at the store for my car to be done. Once the car was complete they charged me and as I was paying they told me "they couldn't adjust your camber, but they only fixed the toe." I spoke to the mechanic and he mentioned my camber kit was seized. I told them why wasn't I informed prior to working on the car. I was not notified or approached during my wait at the store. I talked to the manager about being charged the full amount he mentioned as long as they touch my car I get charged for the full service. Long story short from my bout of attempting to get a partial refund I was still charge for the full amount and they mentioned they will only give me 1 month to get it replaced for a free alignment. Second interaction, It took me awhile to get my part because they were out of stock, I got them within a month to month and a half. Got them installed and paid an additional $140 for a second alignment I got my car back and they told me my "camber was maxed out" which is insane because the camber kit is fairly new. Anyways, camber was in spec but not evened out e.g. -0.81 top left and -0.93 top right. Which was highly unusual. The steering wheel was still misaligned and the car dragged. There was a popping noise coming out from my top right wheel. I called the store and told them about all the things that started to come up after the alignment, they checked my car and they mentioned that the "ball joint is bone dry no grease." I called manufacture and they told me "If an alignment shop doesn't know what they are doing they or know about specialized control arms then they will assume that, but our parts are already pre-greased and sealed, however, if you are only hearing it on one side then there is a possibility that the alignment shop did not know what they are doing and possible broke your ball joint. Camber kits are adjustable and aren't maxed they are adjustable. They are only maxed if your car is lowered. Is your car lowered?" and I continued to tell them that my car is at stock height and the manufactured told me "then there is no way your camber kit should be maxed out. The alignment shop just didn't know what they were doing, we will go ahead and replace your ball joint." Ultimately, this was a waste of money. SO if you take your car make sure you take a car with PURE OEM and no aftermarket parts.

Total estimate was approximately $1500. She was broke so she drove minimally while she saved up. This week got a 2nd opinion and was told that her pads were at 50%. Rotors and control arms were good and did not need to be replaced. Shame on them for attempting to take advantage of her!

My dad left my sister and I 1966 Mustang in great condition. We hired Jason to fix a power steering leak and perform a general tune up on the car. When the car returned to us the power steering was still leaking. Jason told us that he could never get it to stop and blamed it on the new parts he purchased being faulty. Instead of returning the faulty parts to the company he purchased them from, he bought two more new replacements which he claimed also did not work right out of the box. Again, when the car was returned to us, the leak was still present and Jason said he would warranty the work. For this he charged us $2428.50. A year later, we contact Jason to complete the tune up (free of cost) to which he agreed for the work he never completed the first time. Jason then took it upon himself to perform work on the carburetor, kitting it and then removing it from the car and taking it to another shop to look at, without giving us any notice. He informed us of the work and actions after he had performed the work. At this point we told Jason we wanted the car returned and did not want him to perform any further work. When he returned the car, he further took it upon himself to tell me of two other instances where people who met him through the same BNI group I did, were no longer using his services. One of them being a rather large cleaning company in Spokane, who Jason told me was accusing him of burning up a brand new engine on one of their service vehicles. Jason charged us $554.49 for him to perform unauthorized work and not the tune up he was supposed to do. In Washington State there is a duty for repair shops to provide an estimate for repairs over $100 in cost. Jason did not provide an estimate on work performed either time. Nor did he obtain authorization for work done. Further, when Jason did inform us of the carburetor he quoted us at $500-$1500. When another mechanic sourced the part, from the same place Jason said he was familiar with, the quote was $220. Even more, he explained that the engine was flooded and there was 1.5 liters of gas in the carburetor as a result of Jason continually trying to run the car when the engine was flooded. He also informed us that the radiator neck was breaking away, which in the two times Jason had the car he never mentioned. When we expressed our extreme dissatisfaction with Jason's business practices and asked him to right his wrong he agreed to refund the money we had spent on work that still to date is not completed. I drove out to Jason's shop to get the check. At that time he stated he had changed his mind and began to scream at me about how I did not know the difference between a radiator and a carburetor, amongst other things. At this point I told Jason I would not entertain arguing with him or him screaming at me and that I would just leave a review. He offered to rip up the check from the most recent work in response to this before continuing to yell. I have attached the messages from the mechanic who got it the day after Jason returned it to our possession. Jason not only will not complete the work he is hired for, he will blame it on parts and everything other than his own capabilities. Jason is not qualified to work on classic cars and I would highly advise you think twice before allowing him to work on any car of yours. And if you aren't happy with his work, which you won't be, be prepared to be screamed at.
