I had no idea this theater existed and it is probably my favorite movie theater in PA. I moved away…read morefrom the area and recently came back to see my dad who still lives there. This is exactly the kind of movie theater that I love with it's recliner cushioned seats, spacious theater, great sound and tasty food options. I took my kids to see the latest Dreamworks movie and they had such a great time. I ordered them some tasty food including a chicken quesadilla, a pulled pork sandwich and fries. For the adults, they offer a wide selection of wine, beer and cocktails. I'm a big wine drinker and found the quality to be just so so. But with that said, I was just happy they had some drinks to chose from. I think the next time, I'll just stick to either beer or a cocktail. Finally, the location is super. There is free parking with validation and it's right across from the Steamtown Mall that has a Starbucks and a random assortment of shops and businesses. My recommendation would be to also head upstairs outside the Crunch gym and snap a photo of the replica "Welcome to Scranton" sign featured in the opening from the office. My kids had no idea what it was, but I enjoyed it!

They also have deals on Tuesdays for Movies and prices for tickets are pretty reasonable. Parking is also free if you have your ticket validated inside.

This place is the only place to go for archery gear. I went in here late after work and, being a…read morecomplete novice, I was intimidated and overwhelmed by all the gear. The 2 gentlemen that greeted me broke everything down for me in ways I understood. They took the time to adjust several compound bows to my shorter draw length and were very patient as I peppered them with questions. I even shot each of the bows to get an idea of how each felt. I purchased a bow I'm very happy with and will be going back to Lonesome Road for anything I need for archery going forward. Don't waste your time at big corporate chains that will sell you anything. Go here and do it right and do it once if you're looking for quality gear and friendly, helpful, local service.

I had a very bad experience here. They had some OK instructors (that is when you actually can get a…read morehold of them) but one of them, I think his name was "James," was VERY disrespectful and had a very bad attitude. They seemed to have a lot of awards, but I think they got them when they where doing something they cared about and they certainly didn't care about me when I was there. They also seem to charge a lot for not doing much. $5 for an hour at the range which wasn't much better than a cheap target in your backyard, $5 for instruction for an hour, but they multitask so much that you don't actually get more than a combined time of 10-12 minutes and $5 for the bow and arrows. I think the bow and arrow fee was reasonable, but combined with the others it is very expensive for what you get (not much). They also only let you shoot three arrows at a time. This sounds like a lot, but in realty you spend most of your time waiting for the slow guy to shoot and then getting your arrows. It would work much better if there was a set amount of time to shoot so that you don't end up waiting. They didn't have much respect for my time but hey, they where paid by the hour. They also didn't seem to know who they where trying to serve. They had to many kids who slowed down the adults and so many adults that they sometimes seemed to forget about the kids. I don't want to downplay the to good instructors, but you can't choose who you get and combined with the poor setup I would brace for a waist of time at best and horrible dark spot in your day at worst if you go there.

I spent two days in Scranton and stopped by Albright Memorial Library for a few minutes. The…read morelibrary is your typical run-of-the-mill library and I'm sure it's a nice addition to the town. The architecture is nice on the outside but pretty plain on the inside. Not much as far as an attraction but I'm sure nice for residents of Scranton.

I lived in Scranton for a number of years and was a frequent visitor to the Albright Memorial…read moreLibrary, part of the Lackawanna County Library System. Our minds can expand to infinite dimensions. A day passed without learning something new can only be categorized as a day wasted. If I'm correct in believing the meaning of life and the key to our continued survival lies in our pursuit of knowledge, then the public library system remains the government's greatest gift to its citizens. This past winter the Albright Memorial Library hosted a special After Hours film series featuring a double bill of "The Trouble with Cali" and "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls." The movies were preceded by a number of Looney Tunes shorts, probably because the screening was in the basement of the children's library and that was the only other DVD available. "The Trouble with Cali" is a locally shot and publically financed film directed by Paul Sorvino and written by his daughter Amanda. Though completed years ago, "The Trouble with Cali" has never been officially released; after exchanging some strong words with our county officials who demanded some return on their investment, Paul Sorvino delivered a Blu-Ray copy of his film to the library. The Albright Memorial Library is now the only place in America where you can behold the spectacle that is "The Trouble with Cali." Because the movie still remains unreleased, the Blu-Ray disc can't be removed from the building; however, any card-carrying member of the Lackawanna County library system can request a private screening. I attended the After Hours film series with a good friend of mine; this was my second time watching the disasterpiece and his first. I had a blast with "The Trouble with Cali" and so did the rest of the audience, howling with laughter at the terrible acting, inane dialogue and overly melodramatic moments. "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" is a true cult classic and straddles that fine line between genius and insanity. The screenplay was written by renowned film critic Roger Ebert and follows an all-female rock band as they discover the dark underbelly of the music industry. I owned the film for many years before my copy of the OOP DVD was lost in a move. "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" is a true counterculture masterpiece and represents the apex of director Russ Meyer's lengthy filmography. It was a little odd watching two NC-17 films in a children's library but this was well after closing time and there weren't any kids in attendance. Still, the explicit onscreen sex and violence wasn't the oddest thing I witnessed in the children's library that night: on my way out I noticed a copy of Pete Towsend's autobiography, but I digress. A local newspaper reporter was also in attendance; he interviewed me because I'm probably one of the few people outside of the Sorvino-clan that actually sat through "The Trouble with Cali" twice. I felt like a true film historian. The free film screenings were presented along with complimentary beverages and snacks provided by "the friends of the library." Any friend of a library is a friend of mine.
