However, there's still no excuse for rude service. I walk in and go straight to the deli. If you know this place: You walk in, turn right and there is an aisle with coolers on either side. This leads to the back deli. It is cramped, but not terrible. A couple was in front of me. I could tell by the demeanor of the gentleman that they had been there a while already and the woman was asking multiple questions of the staff. No big deal. A little annoying, but some people are just talkative. This goes on, an estimate of say five minutes. Five minutes of a woman asking questions of the male staff member as the young woman staff member chimed in with information or an answer. At no point during this time did either of them acknowledge that someone was waiting or anything. No eye contact. Nothing. Finally the couple is done. The young woman behind the counter asks what I want. I order. In the middle of her slicing one of the deli meats, another customer comes up and asks for a pound of the meat she was currently slicing. Customer service will tell you to take care of customers in the order of arrival. Not according to this place. No, she decided to skip over me and service someone else. I understand that it was probably easier that way - given you might have to clean up between meats, or whatever else. And that's fine - IF YOU COMMUNICATE with the customer. The lady ordering the meat apologized. For reasons? It wasn't her fault. I appreciate it, but unnecessary. Finally after waiting for a longer time, the young woman behind the counter apologized for the delay. There never should have been a delay. Plus the sandwich was lackluster. I try to avoid big chains. I like small businesses. But when you treat people like this; why should I return?

I will say that now, especially the men working the meat counter. They either ignore you, glare, or tell you to go get what you need from the pre-packaged area instead. We stopped getting meat there a while ago because the meat is either expired or rancid. We ended up throwing away a Thanksgiving turkey and several packages of hamburger, steak, etc. We still liked the produce, baked goods, and some of the cooked items. We haven't been in a while because we've found other stores that we liked better. We went a few days ago and was absolutely blown away by the new prices. They have skyrocketed. I've never seen a store jack up the prices this high before. Some of the prices are double to triple what they were a year ago. Could not justify the price, knowing that I could literally drive two minutes down the road and get everything for a lot less. We watched several other customers take in the prices, shake their heads in disgust and walk out the door as well.

While they might present some good values to coincide with good quality, that is not always the case. I guess the best way to describe them is to compare them to an Odd Lots for supermarkets, buy what they can get a great deal on and offer it to their customer base (hopefully at a great price). There is nothing wrong with this business model, but it is not always for me. I also do not like that they do not have a phone in the store (allegedly to save money and pass the savings onto the consumer), have minimal employees working the checkout lanes which can make for a long line when you only have a few items, etc. Would I return here? Absolutely. Should Publix be concerned? Absolutely not.

I am assuming that their beef is not USDA graded and probably the beef is just inspected. This did have me pass on the beef. I usually only go with USDA Choice or USDA Prime with my beef roasts and steaks. The chicken and pork though also had good pricing.
