I have had ADT for 20 years plus. i just bought a new build and my yard camera has been going out since day 1. Also i recently has a internet wifi router box changed so the rest of my cameras are now out and need to be reprogrammed. The first 30 days i had a tech out once a week to check my yard camera now that my 30 days are over and my cameras need to be reprogrammed, The tech came out this morning and wanted to charge me 150 for the service call and 59 dollar assesment. i can see a 39.99 service fee but they got you by the balls and you cant fight them.What happened to customer service and now im in a contract i cant get out of with out a penalty or fine. I really regret the day I hired these people. They're the worst. They installed my security system but they attached one of the cameras to a glass window with a suction cup. Naturally it soon fell off. It was an improper installation, but did they just fix it? No, they had a man come out, do it correctly, but charged me near a hundred dollars service to fix their bungling mistake. Then surprise! The thing has a battery in it that wears out. Worse part, it's no simple battery. It's a custom priority battery. They'll sell you one but then there is a 13 step set of instructions to install it! Forget that. Might just as well spend around a hundred dollars having one of their technicians do it. Worse, it's hit and miss as to how long these batteries will last. A few years ago in March of 2022, I tried terminating my contract because I was moving (Active Military) and they would not let me terminate the contract without paying a $1,200 fee!!! Extremely pricey service and no consideration for our troops who have to move without any option. I wished I could give zero stars. I have been an ADT customer for 9 years and recently had CCTV cameras installed in December 2025 due to drug activity next door. Within 2 days (well within the time frame) I canceled and went with the nest cameras. The CCTV did not have notifications or sound, two of the most important things I needed in cameras. January 2, ADT came out and took down the CCTV cameras and installed nest. Since then ADT has taken out over $2,000 from my bank for the CCTV cameras that I don't have! ADT INSISTS I have these cameras. The tech took the CCTV cameras down and put them in that nifty little truck they drive. I even asked him what they did with the cameras and the tech said they go back to the warehouse. Once the CCTV cameras were loaded in the truck, he then put the nest cameras up. Why ADT is not going after the tech that preformed this service is beyond me. I'm currently trying to get my money back and all I keep getting is broken promises that it will be refunded but hasn't yet. Imagine, a security company that is paid to protect me is stealing money out of my bank account! THIEVES! Don't allow ADT to have automatic withdrawals. I have both Ring and nest cameras and the Ring is so much better, easier and has a wider range and most importantly THEY DON'T STEAL OFF OF ME! A week of false alarms throughout multiple nights AND not being able to arm our home after repeated trouble shooting with ADT Tech Support A paying to have an in-home repair did not qualify as an "emergency" for ADT to schedule a rep to come back out to our home. ADT only acquiesced and FINALLY scheduled after 1.5 hours on the phone with them, insisting to speak with a supervisor in person after Tech support person repeated misrepresented herself as scheduling coordinator, lied about speaking to her supervisor on our behalf, finally agreed to forward us to a REAL supervisor then transferred us to a level 1 tech support person. This is not the morality or "service" we expected from a security firm. In all fairness, Brandon the real supervisor resolved our issue by promising to send an emergency tech to our home the same day. But why did "doing the right thing" require 1.5 hours on the phone, speaking with multiple people to simply get the service we were promised and rely upon to arm our home? read more

BEWARE: CUSTOMER SERVICE/ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT My family used ADT monitoring services for more than the last 2 decades. At the beginning of May I contacted ADT to inquire about upgrading our system to monitoring via wifi or cell phone. I was quoted a price and said I needed time to consider all my options. Without my consent ADT rep discontinued service on that day. My family had no idea as we received no letter or email that our service was cancelled. My account was fully paid for the quarter. 3 weeks after the first call, I signed into my online ADT account and noticed an ! at the top saying the account was inactivated. I called in and was told the rep "accidentally" had closed the account on May 1st. I was asked if I wanted to reopen and I said NO! I didn't feel comfortable having my security covered by a company that made such a mistake and never notified me that my home wasn't being monitored. I was told I had to speak with an account maintenance team. That team called later that night and I again stated I did not want the account reopened. Well again my request was ignored and the account was reopened and I got an emailed bill. Called in again and spoke to manager in account maintenance and was told account was "accidentally" reopened and do I want to keep it open? No was my response. Was told it would be taken care of, 24 hours later had to call in again because account still showing as active. Who wants a security company that "accidentally" closes and opens an account without a customer's consent and doesn't email when an account has these kinds of events? Look at the many other options out there. We will never trust ADT for our security again. read more

Lately people (I assume ADT employees) have posted pics of ADT - it triggered me to write this review. (They would have been best served NOT posting all those pics!) For the past 20 years I've had ADT and rated them 3 stars because the past few years have yielded mediocre service that countered years of great service. Decline in Service: It used to be that if my alarm went off for more than 30 seconds ADT would call me and ask for a password to confirm the alarm was accidentally engaged. Now the alarm can sing for a while and no one calls. What kind of monitoring is that? I believe ADT changed their processes a few years ago to this business model to save money - less service for the same/more money. Inept Salesmanship & Inability to Meet Customer Need: More than a year ago we wanted to install video cameras on our property. We called ADT for an estimate to install cameras and I got an estimate for $6,000 and lost 2 hours of my time to an in-house salesman whose presentation was so lacking that even he knew that he wasn't going close the sale, while he was presenting to me! He presented a quote to me - wrote copious notes about the quote and then took that paper with him, only to leave me his business card with 3 phrases written on the back - that was the 'written estimate'! The reason for the high price was because of the number of cameras he was installing, and a 'hub' for each camera that would have to be installed in my closet - so I'd have a bunch of them! ADT didn't offer cameras by itself, so I'd have to buy a product that bundled new thermostats and virtual control of lights, etc. - none of which I sought. But the rub for me was that ADT WOULD NOT MONITOR activity! We did buy cameras - from Best Buy - we got HD cameras (showing color images during the day and black&white at night) and a DVR that had more ports than needed so we can add cameras in the future, and capabilities to record for a month. The cameras were installed at a very low fee and we have the convenience of seeing the camera view on our TV, cell phones, and computers. It cost a fraction of what ADT quoted. The People are Not the Problem: Through the years I've had good service from ADT reps via phone and in person. The people aren't the problem (barring the salesman who really needs training/a new vocation) - I think ADT's product offerings and processes are the problem. read more

Not happy with their sales in their custom home services department out of West Palm Beach. They try to sell us a package deal and forgo Advising us that there was a 36 month required monitoring for the system that you purchase which is around $53 a month on top of the cameras and the labor. This isn't monitoring! This was a protection warranty on the system and it is required but unfortunately the salesman didn't pitch that information to us! The salesman told us that we can take the warranty for a month and then go ahead and cancel it but if you do that then you are certainly locked into a contract! This is likely the most useless and unprofessional company I've EVER delt with. I have tried to cancel my service on three different occasions, each time it took over 2 hours of my time. Now, I'm calling my credit card company and having them cut off any more payments from their company. For a company you are supposed to be able to reach easily, that's just not the case. Since my last review I've reached out to ADT Several times, the phone number directly from the app led me to a person who actually works for ADT. He explained that they only provide the equipment to third party "authorized providers." Unfortunately I had the bad luck of getting stuck dealing with "Defenders LLC" who scammed me during this global pandemic and expect me to pay remaining balance of $1000 for a 3 contract. I was very clear and covered all my bases explaining to the sales rep that I have a short term lease and would have to cancel when my project ends in a few months. He strung me along and now I've been back and forth with several ADT reps that do not care about people or the financial condition of the country at all. They don't care about anything especially safety. They only care about $ even if it leaves you broke in a pandemic. I've been back and forth with Anya from corporate who is the least empathetical person I have spoken in my life. They promised me a 6month money back satisfaction guarantee and that's why I signed a contract, under the impression I can cancel if I'm not happy. The sales rep handed the certificate to me the day he peer pressured me into te contract. (See attached image of the contract). Apparently the money back only Applies to the actual equipment which is guaranteed by ADT itself. The contract is with a subcontractor and they are the ones deceiving people. Our sales guy , Brian Paulson, made it sound like we would pay ADT $55/month and the equipment would be ADT's responsibility (which makes sense because their 10 pages of fine contract print says that they own the equipment). So we signed up and ADT charged us nearly $300 to replace a dead control panel on the wall. By contract, they owned the dead one and they own the new live one that we paid for. It is a very strange way of doing business. If you're going to pay retail for alarm system components, why not pay $9-20 per month for monitoring? If you're paying $55/month for monitoring, why do you also have to pay retail for all of the equipment? Somewhere in the 10 pages of fine print it might be legal for ADT to treat customers the way that they've treated us, I guess. But I think it would be smarter to buy equipment and actually own it and pay for monitoring separately. (Post-sale experience with ADT has been poor. They didn't send us the insurance certificate that was promised. Nor the signs and stickers for the house.) read more

W O R S T company ever. when you first get an alarm system and open an account with ADT, their sales team - whoever assists you with the process - is trained to LITERALLY lock you into contracts you don't even know you're signing up for... When I first got my alarm system/contract for a very basic security alarm system, the company had me automatically committed to a minimum of 3 years with the alarm(s) which ONLY worked at one address, the address where I had the system activated and no other location. (so meaning, within this hidden contract that I was committed to without my knowledge or permission, I was unable to move the alarm system to a different residences without paying a $150 ADDITIONAL move fee for, basically, a set-up of a whole new ADT system). THEN. I was told if I wanted to simply terminate my alarm system altogether, there would be a $3,000 cancellation fee if I wanted out!!! I had to end up paying the $150 / $200 - whatever amount it was - for the set-up of a new alarm system when my location changed naturally when I moved apartments. The entire ADT alarm system agreements/set-ups/commitment to a system is flawed. and after having dealt with this nightmare situation that I keep shelling out money for, I have decided that ADT, as a business, is ran by crooks. You'll pay thousands of dollars and get the most basic of systems. My advice? Link-Interactive or Front Point Security. ADT is the WORST. read more

I was lied to by ADT phone representative when I specifically asked about the 3 year contract and if I moved for a job, transferred, etc. Would I be able to get out of the 3 year contract? She said YES. When the installation day came I was reading over contract and didn't see it in there so i called her up and asked her to send me an email stating what we had spoken about. Extreme dissatisfaction with ADT Pulse and with ADT's lack of customer service!! I installed this service in my new home 2 months ago. It has caused me nothing but problems since it was installed. I have placed two service calls and twice was told the system "had a delay". The point is, I am able to walk in my front door and the not only does the door sensor miss me, so do the motion sensors. I called to cancel my service today and was told the cancellation fee is over $1200!!!!! It is sad, actually. We have been loyal customers for over 12 years in one home and 2 in the previous home. Think long and hard before signing a contract with ADT. In 2016 I signed with ADT because the property that I had move into had a pre-existing alarm system fro ADT. They replaced the batteries for the system and it was up and running. Within a month I started getting a fault on one of the door sensors, no biggie check the door reset all good for a while, but the sensor continued to fault more and more. you would think they would follow on that. Here is the rub, ADT only makes appointments during the week from 8 am to 5 pm and Saturdays by special arrangement. Even though I had repeated faults on the same sensor including a false alarm that brought the police to my home while I was at work ADT never investigated the repeated faults. Pitiful waste of the police's valuable assets. After the false alarm involving a police response a result of ADT hanging up on me because I couldn't give them my password while I was operating a motor yacht for my employer. I find out later that the ADT agent should have asked me two questions to verify my identity, but instead just hung up. Now I can't get a technician to the house to repair my system because of their hours and Saturday appointments are booked three weeks out leaving my home unprotected now for well over a month. What is up ADT not enough technicians? All the while I'm making payments for service that doesn't work because of their faulty equipment. Hey how about letting me out of my contract because of ADT failure to provide timely service which is part of the contract. No way says the manager after hours of being on hold on several occasions. Only way out is to pay them the last year of the three year contract over 300 dollars! \ So I agree to wait two weeks and tell my employer that he won't have a Captain on Saturday morning Easter weekend so I can let the ADT tech in to repair my system before I leave home for two months for my employer's cruise. Risk my Home, Risk my Job, Thanks a lot ADT. Well guess ADT is a no show for that appointment. Called ADT after another 30 minutes and three transfers they tell me their record shows an appointment on April 7th. Strange I would make an appointment when I know I will be at sea? Pretty sure most folks will be at work during ADT service hours, best time for the alarm to be working too! Burglars! if there is an ADT sign there is a good chance the system is not working due to lack of service like mine. I even offered to pay them off just to be rid of them. If you like to be totally screwed over, lied to and ripped off then please sign up for services with this company. After 12 years of paying their well above competitive pricing, I tried to cancel my service due to a personal financial hardship. I was not under any contract at the time. They transferred me around several times. After a total 30 minutes on hold, I finally got to their cancellation dept which took my request and gave me a confirmation number. I was told I would not be billed again and the last payment they had auto-debited on my credit card the day before would be refunded in 5 to 7 days as a courtesy in consideration of my situation and my 12 years of loyalty as a customer. When no refund was received 2+ weeks later, I called again and went through the customer service hierarchy to get to their billing department (another 25 minutes on hold). I spoke to a person in their billing department who explained they had a record of this promised refund but there was a hold-up a 'corporate' and the refund would be issued in a few days. Rather than issue the promised refund, they CHARGED me for yet another month on the regular billing date - 3 weeks AFTER I had cancelled the service. 2 weeks later, I received a refund to my credit card that was about 1/4 of the amount now 2 months they incorrectly billed me. After another hour and 3 transfers, I got to a person in the billing department who said THERE WAS NO RECORD of this promise for a refund. After 'researching' the situation on my 5th call to get this resolved, I was told they and had fulfilled their commitment and their would be no further refund. This was NOT what I was promised. They screwed my out of $88+ dollars. If you remain unconvinced about their horrific treatment of their loyal customers, have a look at some of the other reviews of this company. There are many other services with 5 star ratings that offer monitoring services for 1/4 the price (with CELLULAR backup). I now have signed up for one of these service providers and have all the functionality I need for $43/month less than ADT was charging me. If you still want to go with ADT, don't be foolish enough to give them a credit card or bank account for auto-billing. Insist that they bill you and send a check each month. Otherwise, they will take whatever amount they deem they are due regardless of what they commit to you. I have a business account with them and will now be cancelling that as well. Have had ADT for years. Learned two years ago that they were overcharging me by 180.00 a month. Today I called to have my smoke detectors replaced and my CO2 so that I am compliant for my house sale. I was told there was no provision for replacement, that this was an "add on service", that my monthly would go up, all very strange. I am hesitant to sign the contract entitled Additional Services rider, which is not what I am getting. I was stunned that calling ADT to have service was such a lengthy and unsatisfying experience. I had ADT for 3 years and had the hardest time trying to cancel at the end of my 3 year contract. Each customer service rep would talk to me nicely and say they were not the person to help me, after asking me all the same long questions over and over and would then transfer me around and around. I'd say I was transferred about 6-7 until I finally got frustrated. I told the last lady that I could not be transferred again and asked why they were doing this to me. I asked her if this was something they did to keep people from cancelling. She said I hadn't talked to her yet but she needed to transfer me again. She got mad because of my frustration and just left me on the phone. I could tell she was still there and asked her why she was doing this. I told her I knew it wasn't her fault but that I was very frustrated. She finally transferred me again and I hung up. I let my husband call back and he was able to get the sorry security system canceled. I am so mad at the Property Brothers for advertising ADT as the top security to get. I've lost all respect for them. Guess they'll do anything for money. Every time the last yera and a half my alarm went off, no one called. I'd just get an email or a text message from ADT. Big help. Also, at my previous home, the alarm would go off for no reason in the middle of the night sometimes. Scared me to death. I contacted ADT but they never came out to fix it. ADT quoted me on 2/2020 $27.99. They came to my house put in the ADT security system then charged me $58.99. I called & asked why did you over charged me & they said "SORRY WE DON'T OFFER THE 27.99 IN YOUR AREA" So I'm stuck paying twice as much. Tried to get a service call scheduled during their 1-5pm window and even though I requested the latest available slot possible, the service person shows up at 2pm with no prior call or notice. I ordered ADT over two years ago with a contract. Although I had to stay for 2 years, they were allowed to raise rates whenever they wanted, and did multiple times. At the end of my contract, I called to cancel. The guy on the phone kept trying to make deals, such as a $29 monthly fee instead of the $65 a month I was paying. I finally ended his sales pitch by asking why I was paying $65 if he could offer the service for that low rate. A week or so later, I received a bank debut of $65. from ADT. I called them and was told, it states in the contract that they like 30days notice. I informed them that the contract had expired and was told to expect a refund of $12. I will have to agree with the previous reviewer - I was looking to change from my current provider for cost purposes. So a local rep. came by the house to discuss what they could do and offer. One thing that I was looking at was adding the cameras to my home - and probably with all the discussion that we were doing I lost track that the cameras were $450 per each outside unit. I thought I understood that they were going to be included for the $42+ that I was quoted since I had to sign a 3 year contract. The rep did not leave me a written quote as I had asked which should have been the 1st flag, but ok. Since my wife knew the person, I thought to myself - no problem. We finally said ok after a week of doing some research. I met with the rep one more time to begin the paper work and when we were going through the entire order I finally noticed a charge for $900+ which I asked him, what was that for? He explains that it was for the (2) outside cameras that I wanted... which I explained to him that I thought that it came included. Nevertheless, after our discussion - decided to just go with one camera for the ridiculous price of $450. However, this did not sit well with me... so after he left, I decided to check out the camera unit that ADT was offering for the outside unit. Well, to my astonishment - I found several of the cameras that they were offering for about $125- $175 on Amazon. When i found this out - I contacted the rep. and said to explained to him that I had found the identical cameras that they were offering me, online for way less. I wanted to know if they could match the price if not I would purchase them myself and just have them install it. This unfortunately was not a good solution for them, as after he spoke with his manager that they could not match the price nor would they instal the cameras as it's not an "ADT" camera. They would not be able to monitor nor install the camera - which i then in turn said "please remove them from my order". What cracks me up is that they already had charged my card for $450+ dollars which I found amazing, since they had not installed anything as of yet! At this point, I was on strike (2) with them and still wanted the service - but after removing the camera I would have to not pay an installation fee which seemed ludicrous. My mentality is, if you want my business "whats in it for me"! Yes we were getting a new panel and some new features, but the one feature I wanted I would have to pay a crap load which made no sense... on top of that there are much better cameras out in the market that offer the same features with more cameras at a less expensive price. After this whole hoppla, I decided to call my current alarm provider and see what they could offer me - which should have been my first option. They not only beat the offer that ADT - but the camera themselves were less expensive and of better quality. Once I learned of this, I called the Rep. to cancel the entire order - as I was done by this point and asked that the money they had taken from my account be returned which I thought would not take more than a few days. At the current time that I am writing this, it's been 9 days since I cancelled and the funds have not been returned to me. I contacted the rep. to see what was going on and he then lets me know that it ADT was not able to return the money to the account - that a check will be mailed to me in 3-4 weeks. Hmm.. really? Quite interesting if you ask me... so at this point, i'm actually very happy that we did not go with ADT - as if this was just a glimpse before becoming a customer - I can just imagine what awaits if we were customers. read more

Nope, never. This company has forever lost any chances of providing service to me, my family, or my friends. A word to the wise; review your contract carefully because there are expensive clauses in the fine print that will bite you in the butt if you move or need to cancel your service for any reason. read more

So I Just started with ADT a little over a month ago, Was promised two remote fobs to arm my system which I never received. My Security System hasn't worked properly since I've had it and when I called and told them my cameras are not working in which I just paid for. They scheduled me over a week away to come fix my SECURITY SYSTEM A SECURITY COMPANY. This is ridiculous and unprofessional. Think twice before going with security with ADT. read more
