Me and my dusty clunkers were greeted with a smile. He did not even shudder at the sight of shoes. He politely asked if it was okay to remove my laces and went to work. Located on the plaza level of the Gas Company Tower, you'll find Rafael's shoe shine stand next to…read morethe Starbucks that's also hidden away. On afternoons, you can grab your coffee and get those shoes shined for just $5. Yes, this is the main attraction to the spot: the cost. Many people drop off their shoes and pick them up later, but the enjoyment is really in sitting up on that chair, picking up your newspaper, and taking about ten minutes to have your shoe shined. The only downside are the limited hours between noon and 4:00 p.m., never having shined a brown pair of shoes here, along with the lack of parking for any bit of traffic. I suggest you visit if you're in the area and prefer to have a quick shine to your black shoes with your coffee. Rafael does a simple job in cleaning, shining, adding dye on scuffed and browned areas, and following it with a polish. It's a process, and he does a wonderful job considering the $5 charge.

After a different shoe cobbler almost ruined my favorite pair of boots with a resole that lasted…read moreonly a week, I was honestly worried they couldn't be saved. I decided to bring them to Shoe Wiz Instant Shoe Repair since they were near my DTLA office with hopes they could assist. The two gentlemen took the time to carefully inspect my boots and explain exactly what had gone wrong with the previous repair. They walked me through every step of how they planned to correct the issues, and it was obvious they knew their craft inside and out. When I got my boots back, I was beyond happy. Not only were they saved, but they honestly looked better than they did when they were new out of the box. The quality of the workmanship, attention to detail, and pride they take in their craft really show. Talented, honest, and true to their craft. They've earned a customer for life, and I won't trust my boots or any shoe with anyone else. If you're looking for true craftsmanship and people who genuinely care about doing the job right, I can't recommend Shoe Wiz Instant Shoe Repair enough.

I've been coming to this place for YEARS (15+years)…read more At first the gentleman was attentive to detail. He would have your shoes on time when he promised them to you. But, over the years he has become rude, dismissive and does a sloppy job. He has always overcharged which is fine if you do a superb job. But, now he does the bare minimum on the repairs. And when you bring up an issue that should have been taken cared of in the first place it becomes "another add on" that he hadn't included in the first quote. Makes you feel like he was doing you a favor with the previous price. Just be upfront and don't waste people's time. It's hard to find parking, so going to that side of town is a mission to begin with. It's a shame too, the art of shoe making is rapidly fading and small places like this are becoming rare.

I went back and was told I would have to pay again even though I paid $55 for 30 minutes of shine. The most recent time I went I was driving home and realized that they had completely torn the inside of the boot where my heel padding is.
