He did so for me even though the tooth he worked on had a root canal and could not feel pain any more. I had to get a crown worked on right before surgery and he got me in and worked out a fix in order to avoid any dental issues being a problem. He tries to keep costs down and is so nonchalant about it. I trust him with my and my daughter's teeth and would recommend him to any and everyone. He is a genuinely caring person and will listen to your needs! I'm grateful for him.

However, at my next appointment for a root canal, things took a turn for the worse. I informed the hygienist and dentist up front/before this procedure that I was having issues breathing through my nose due to allergies and was scared because breathing through my mouth during a root canal would be difficult. Annoyed they told me I can reschedule for 6 months later or just deal with it. Since I was in pain, I went ahead with it. Well, that was a huge mistake! During the root canal, the dentist & hygienist LEFT ME with my mouth WIDE OPEN (root canal apparatus) for 45 MINUTES! Since I was breathing through my open mouth and only my mouth as my nose was completely blocked up, which made my throat and mouth was SO dry I thought I was going to die. I couldn't swallow or wet my mouth. It was completely dried out which made it harder by the second to breathe. And they just left me there - laying back, staring at the ceiling, unable to produce saliva, not able to breathe through my nose, with a plastic apparatus keeping my mouth wide open the whole time, drying out more and more each second. I couldn't talk. I couldn't breathe. After 45+ minutes of this with NO staff checking on me, I was scared for my life. For months, I had nightmares about this! The ONLY reason I'm sharing my experience here is so that someone else won't have to go through what I went through.

Despite them living further out and having other dentists close by, they would trek across town for this man and his staff. I. Don't. Blame. Them. Dr. Bay and his staff are AMAZING. The staff is awesome. They are caring, engaging, and warm. Dr. Bay is funny and totally puts you at ease. This office does NOT try to rip you off with unnecessary procedures. While at our last duty station, I took my kids to a pediatric dentist for their first visit. We left paying a lot of money and with estimates for all these unnecessary procedures that totaled up over $500...and we are parents who are DILIGENT with our children's hygiene. Still, my kids were not put at ease or convinced that the dentist office is a good place to go. Enter Bay Dental Care. My kids LITERALLY BEG to go to the dentist. LITERALLY. As in if we are passing the office, they ask if they can see Dr. Bay and the staff or remind me it's been a while (and by "a while" I mean a few weeks). Both of them have had a cavity filled and NEITHER of them knew that Dr. Bay gave them a shot of Novocain!!! That's how good he is. I have fallen asleep in the chair while he filled a cavity of mine. I had one dentist from the age of 1 till my early 20s when I was in DC. I loved that dentist dearly and he's now retired. I will NOT see anyone BUT Dr. Bay because of the quality of service he and his staff provide AND for the trust that I (and my kids) have in all of them. Please visit Dr. Bay and his staff...you will NOT be disappointed.

I have been terrified of the dentist for some time. Kind of like the car dealership, you have a go-between who talks billing and insurance with you away from the nurse and dentist. It's discrete and comfortable without pressure. My nurse (dental hygienist) was Susan? Or Sandy? God she was an angel. She was so kind to me breaking down and upset and in pain. She made me feel so comfortable talking about stuff and offering anything I might need. My dentist was Dr Taylor who was incredibly knowledgeable and proficient. I got out what needed to come out and I even scheduled an appointment for regular maintenance later this month. I was made comfortable to be there, whether I needed nitrous or a valium, either are available. And they make sure you are physically comfortable with numbing. Mentally comfortable is hard, but true kindness shines through in the folks who work there. I got a kids "reward" (shark plushie) to hold while I had my procedure. When I left I got a "goodie bag" with full instructions on what I had done, extra gauze, and an emergency card. It's a little hinky getting in with the road construction on witchduck road. But soon as your turn on Grayson, by the church, it's there. There's an employee entrance on the witchduck side and another saying Ste 200 on the side, even though the dentist is Ste 100, this is the door you go in.

I think he really likes what he does and it shows in the detail and care he provided. My first visit there was 2 weeks ago for a broken tooth. I'm 55 years old and it's the first time in my life at a dentist that I didn't feel a thing. Not even the needle for the numbing. I thought he hadn't even done it yet because my eyes were shut and I didn't feel a thing. I have a bad needle phobia and Dr. Joe found out about it and always let me know before a needle is going to come into my field of vision so I can shut my eyes. So I never even saw one the whole time! I was a very happy person. Kelly is his dental assistant and she informed me that she's been doing this for about 25 years. She's knowledgeable, she's kind and gentle, and she's funny! She's the kind of person you just know is great with kids, the elderly, and anyone in between. Most of all she's very talented and good at what she does to assist Dr. Joe - she was reading his mind as he was working on me and it was easy to tell that she knows her job inside and out. Both Kelly and Dr. Joe explained everything clearly they were going to do to repair my broken tooth, root canal, crown, etc. , how long it would take, and everything about it. I didn't feel even the first needle go in to numb me, AND I didn't have even an ounce of pain from the root canal. Nothing. Nada. It was a blessed relief. My kids are grown now but if I had to do it over again I'd definitely have taken them here instead of the very bad experiences we had at other dentists. Because of those previous bad experiences elsewhere, I was afraid to even go to another dentist but when my tooth broke I didn't have a choice. So I chose Konikoff on Lynnhaven Pkwy because it was in my general area where I live. When I went in for the first time two weeks ago, I was very uncomfortable and fearful. I had no idea what to expect, and have the fear of needles on top of it. Dr. Joe and Kelly did everything necessary to help me feel calm and in good hands. And as it turned out, I was in GREAT hands! Thank you Dr. Joe and Kelly and Konikoff Dentistry at Lynnhaven Pkwy! You're my dentist from now on. I have told my grown kids about it too, and will recommend them to anyone who asks if I know a good dentist. I know a great one! FINALLY!

I will never return to this practice. My 8 year old was having some crowns placed over fillings that were previously done wrong at the Edinburg konikoff practice. When he expressed discomfort and said he could feel the pain in his teeth she spoke to him in an angry tone and threatened "do I need to leave the room so your mother can do some parenting". As a RN, I have never witnessed such poor bedside manner in a pediatric setting. Would not recommend scarring your child's dental experience with such a lack of empathy from a so called pediatric dentist practice. When I spoke with the office manager and expressed how upsetting the experience was she was uninterested and then did me the favor of calling me back to cancel any future appointments with the office because Dr. Hubbard thought it was best to refer him elsewhere.

She connected me with them and I loved my time with them from the last time so much that I looked them up again this time around, even though we don't live as close to them as we used to, I've chosen them to be my dentist again. I could have easily gone to the dentists downstairs from my ortho for convenience, but I don't mind the drive. They've gotten a new look with a refresh of the logo, more visible on the building. They are right next to the Car Spa. I'm so happy to find my previous dental hygienist, Tricia, is still there too. She is absolutely fantastic and she always makes you feel at ease. Edwin is always so helpful with any insurance questions. I had to get some extractions done at the end of last year in preparation for my braces. Dr. Wong did a great job. I went back for a cleaning for the first time with the braces on recently and Tricia was great. You're most likely going to see both docs, depending on what day you're in because the parents take days off now. It's nice to see the the mom and dad taking some time off from the practice!
