Nine years ago, we began our adoption journey. We were drawn to this agency because they provided a lot of psychoeducation for intended parents as well as expectant mothers, which allows everyone involved to make the best, most informed decisions for their life. Their openness to serving diverse people was very important to us. We felt like the support given to our daughter's birth mother was extensive. AAI changed our lives. Once the disappointment of Infertility not working, we changed course to Adoption. We reached out to at least a dozen in 4 different states. We were amazed at AAI response, their walking us through the process. After helping us throught the paperwork, doing our profile which our first one we thought was so great because we had Teddy Bears on the paper, we thought we gave a A+ profile, AAI reached out and being honest said ours may be overlooked, but if we were happy they'd use, they sent us a few others as samples & found ours was like a D-, we appreciated the honesty & communication. We re-did our profile and 9 months later we had a daughter. When we first decided Adoption, we hoped for the drive thru, tinted windows, we don't see them, they don't see us & they hand us a baby through the window. AAI walked us through open adoption. As scary as that may be, it was our best experience. We had dinner with the Birth mom the night before. She showed us the strength & love Birth Mom's have. We were in the waiting room when our daughter was born. We were from PA, and here we are in Texas 1700 miles from home after many disappointments of infertility, emotions running high, AAI steered us through the Roller Coaster ride to Birth Mom signing. This was 1999, we spoke and mailed updates to her for the first 10 years until life got in the way, she moved a few times we were busy with THREE Kids, yes 3, all adopted at birth through AAI, so unfortunately lost touch. Fast forward to October, 2023, my daughter was getting married. For the first time the night before her Wedding, we met her Birth Mom and Half-sister whom we invited to the Wedding. Emotions rushed back to 1999 and the love we have for her, long first hugs and a few tears. Again, before knowing AAI, I wanted the Drive-Thru, and if I had my way, moments like that would of been lost. AAI is not just an Adoption Agency they are family. 25 years later we still talk with the first employee we interacted with at AAI, we keep in touch with founder Jane Hall and her daughter Executive Director Rory Hall, we exchange Christmas Cards, gifts to my Granddaughter, again they are Family not just a business. Adoption Advocates has changed my life, so profoundly; I don't know if I will be able to put it in to words. That being said... When Shannon and I got pregnant, we were both daily IV meth users. We couldn't take care of ourselves, much less a child. Shannon was not about to have an abortion. So she settled on adoptio. which I thought at the time was a terrible idea, at the time. But, it was never my decision to make anyway. I don't know how Shannon chose AA. But, she chose wisely. From the first moment we sat down with Rory, I/We felt safe, accepted, and supported. She listened to us, our questions and concerns. And when she spoke, she spoke with care and respect. She did not treat us as victims, criminals or children. It was clear immediately she wanted what was best for any and all involved. They removed the financial burden of the pregnancy and then some. But, more importantly, they provided us with guidance, counseling, and even friendship. We placed in 2013. And to this day, I call Rory for help navigating life with my daughter and my adoptive family. I even came in to talk when Shannon and I split up. Having nothing to do with my daughter. We weren't sure when adoption might happen or what it might look like for our family, but we decided to go to AAI's training seminar on a Saturday and Sunday. By the drive home, we knew the answer was "now and with AAI". Between then and now, our baby boy has come home, we've learned so much, and we count their staff and our adopting peers as lifelong relationships. They take an evidence-based, practical, and holistic view towards adoption. You'll learn more about adoption, human relationships, and yourself than you ever expected. I was in a very rough marriage when I found out I was having my daughter. The choices given to me by my ex husband were abortion or adoption. I chose adoption and this is the first place I called. My daughter is 2.5 years old now. I have a wonderful relationship with her and her adoptive parents. I have a close friendship with Rory, my adoption agent. They helped me buy food, buy clothes during the pregnancy and after. They paid my rent. They got me rides to doctors appointments. They gave me counseling and gave me the resources I needed to make the best decision for myself and my daughter. And they were never pushy, nothing ever felt like a "transaction". My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Adoption Advocates, not once but twice, to complete our family. We worked with AAI in 2016. We can't speak highly enough about our experience with them and we have recommended them to anyone who asks. There were a couple of major factors important to us when we were picking an agency, most importantly was how does the agency treat the potential birth parents. AAI provides many services for potential birth parents, including counseling. By providing this support, birth parents can truly determine if adoption is the right choice for them. During the adoption process, many tough conversations take place. AAI made us feel very comfortable and not judged during these times. Finally, I want to add that AAI is VERY communicative. You are never wondering what is going on, or what is going to happen next. When we began our adoption journey, we heard from a couple of sources that Adoption Advocates was the gold standard for adoption in Austin, and our experience completely backs that up. They care about everyone involved in the adoption process -- adoptive families, birth parents (moms, dads, their families) and adoptees. They do a lot of education about adoption, and in particular open adoption. We started our own journey with their free quarterly class and learned all about the process -- the emotional issues, the legal issues, how to address concerns that adoptees might have years from now. As an adoptive parent, I know that if I have questions about anything adoption related, I can call Rory, Erin or anyone on staff and take as much time as I need, and I could call at any time during the process.
