Got a round of ales along with the burger and chips as bartender/server suggested - burger did the job but was nothing special. Although I later found out that the meat is hand-ground and locally sourced with a special combo of slaw, bacon, cheddar on top. Truthfully, the bartender/server didn't know what some of the bar food menu items were (Welsh rarebit?) and justified this with only having been there one month. Very much a gastropub, they even have a posher restaurant section of the pub, if you don't feel like eating with the riff raff. The pub wasn't so food focused that a simple drinker such as myself would feel alienatedbut it wasn't far off. Have I mentioned I'm not a big fan of Gastropubs? At least 100 times you say?? Nice outside area, but the day I was here was so unbearably hot that a paleface like myself couldn't take advantage of it. Many people were and the pimms was flowing liberally. We were visiting London and wanted some authentic fish and chips My wife and did some research on Yelp and chose Admiral Codington's. The staff was friendly and the fish and chips were excellent. The menu presented a variety of other options that looked like great future options. It has my whole hearted recommendation! read more

The Admiral Cod is a bit unassuming. You stumble upon it down a nondescript street just off Draycott Ave and inside, the drinking area consists of a a handful of tables and barstools looped around a grand, wooden bar in the centre. Windows and cream walls keep the fairly simple room bright during the day. There's a tiny seating area outside which serves its purpose, but like the pub itself, isn't terribly characterful. That said, the Admiral Cod is quite popular with locals and maintains a steady crowd most nights. Its restaurant, housed in an adjacent room, also has a dedicated following. I haven't tried the food (traditional British) but it gets decent reviews and I like the dining area - the long, fairly narrow room sits under an atmospheric skylight/retractable roof. read more

Close to our hotel, so convenience is great. Pleasant and accommodating staff. We had fish and chips (of course) and a rump steak. The fish and chips were good, the steak was thin (seems to be par for the course in UK) was a little more done than I like it. Over all, good UK pub and we would go back. read more

Food was passable, although they were out of many entrees, but service was Fawlty Towers style shambolic. There were very few people there, which further detracted from the atmosphere, and the street is not terribly attractive. All in all, no real reason to return. read more

Nice casual pub on a side street in an upscale area (picture boutiques & Bently's) very reasonably priced with a good selection of brews on tap & a nice wine list. Wife & I were on a date with a mission to try some typical British food, we ended up here based on menu selection she had the bangers and mash I did the fish and chips. The bangers were topped with carmelized onions which really added a nice sweetness to the dish, also included was a good amount of the mashers with some brown gravy- not great, not bad... just meh. The fish and chips was a large piece of haddock coated in a crisp batter, accompanied by what were listed as triple cooked chips, being triple cooked I expected the to be as crisp as the fish, nope! Just some average, hot bet not crisp. Overall, it was a good showing at a fair price, I wouldn't go back for the same food, but maybe something different, good service and good people. Best fish & chips we've had in London! Crispy fish. Perfect mushy peas - definitely fresh and delightfully green. Good tartar sauce. We have also tried several other dishes from this place. The cod with chorizo is awesome. Great quality chunks of chorizo in a nice rich broth - not heavy. Beans were creamy. Yummy pea shoots are a nice accent. Fish was perfectly cooked. The sea bass with the citrus, fennel & olives is also delicious. Again - perfect broth & perfectly cooked fish. Citrus segments were also perfectly skinned, making them more tender and easier to eat. The fennel was also incredible - so tender & perfectly seasoned. I have no clue how they make it so nice. Olives were a nice touch, not overpowering. Our fav dessert is the sticky toffee pudding. Definitely get it. Seriously amazing. Tea was wonderful! Wine choices are great too, I especially love a white from Italy, served by the glass. read more

Came in for dinner during a visit to London. I did not have a reservation so there was a bit of a wait, but I had a (large) glass of wine in the bar area. Excellent vibe, it seemed like everyone was having a great time. The food was very good. As a tourist I really wanted to try the classic fish and chips, which was crispy and delicious, and the mushy peas, which I have never had. They sound kind of gross but they are actually pretty good, with a hint of mint flavor. The sticky toffee pudding was a great way to end the meal. Next time I find myself in London I will definitely return! read more

The Admiral Codrington cheeseburger is quite possibly the most amazingly constructed burger in London today. Every element blends seamlessly together to produce a cheeseburger greater than the sum of its parts. Stopped in for lunch while visiting London. Based on other reviews, we tried the fish & chips with mushy peas. We weren't disappointed! One order is big enough to split for a light lunch (save room for more beer I suppose) and the food was delicious. The mushy peas were a unique experience for us (Americans) but we found them to be delightful with a hint of mint flavoring to them. We saw a lot of locals ordering burgers that looked great so I suspect those are great as well. The staff was very courteous and helpful - so much so that we stopped in again for another pint a few days later before departing. read more

The Ad Cod, as it's know in the area, is an established haunt of the Chelsea set. It is always busy, and is great for spending a good couple of hours in, whether it's winter or summer. They have a wide range of drinks, moderately priced considering the area, and it's tucked away on back street, but has a hugely loyal following. It can be a bit 'rah' but the food is good and the staff are always pleasant. The heated decking area is perfect for smokers, although does fill up quickly. A good mix of clientelle, although leaning heavily towards Chelsea residents, definitely worth popping into for a drink or two. read more

I wouldn't say moderately priced! £7.50 for a glass of wine and £14.50 for a burger wherever I've been I would suggest is high but for the area expected. nice food wasn't as outstanding as I was promised but certainly tasty! Service was slightly overstretched but no complaints overall. Fab bathroom facilities with hand moisturiser for us girls and a good covered outside facility for smokers and summer weather. All in all a nice treat and good venue, and a happy birthday to my friend James whom the visit was a celebration for. read more

Don't know anything about burgers. Seems to be a seafood restaurant. Maybe it's changed recently. The squid (calimari) was overcooked. There is a fine line between cooked and old rubber tires and unfortunately it crossed the line. However the sea bass redeemed with a very nice roasted fennel. Skipped desert because it was a long day. And maybe I am not used to UK prices, but 9 pounds for a glass of wine?!? read more

At some point I discovered The Admiral Codrington's burger ranked #3 on a list of Londons best burgers at http://youngandfoodish.com/london/top-10-burgers-in-london/ to check if it is any good, I decided to go there myself. On a rainy Sunday afternoon, I looked up the address and went down to South Kensington tube station, from there it's just a few minutes walk. The Admiral Codrington is a nice, light, and really comfortable place to spend some time. I had a great wine, and also didn't need to wait long for the highly appreciated burger. I fully support Daniel Young's judgment to put it at least on #3 in London's burger top ten. The meat was deliciously prepared, and the bun fitted the patty perfectly. It was big enough, but not too big, and it didn't dissolve somewhere on the way. If you like burgers, you shouldn't miss this one! I also genuinely liked the furniture and interior, it's really a very nice place to eat a brilliant burger and read an articulate article while enjoying a wonderful wine. read more

Love the Admiral Cod! I have come here for drinks and also dinner. It is located off Brompton Road in Chelsea and perfect for after dinner drinks. The bar is cosy and clusters of seating all over. The dining room in the back has a skylight that can open during the summer. There is also a lovely porch on the side and can still be packed in November. Great food and selection of drinks. The crowd is your average Chelsea set and the young royals show up time to time. read more

A short walk from our "apartment" at Chelsea Cloisters, this offered an upscale pub atmosphere with good food. Not a destination spot to cross town for, but warm, friendly, and the best home made tartar sauce in the world, IMHO. read more

this pub is a bit lost in the heart of chelsea but it is what makes its charm. as you have to fight your way through to find it, it is always very quiet and calm and people there are laid back and friendly. they have a great wine list with some amazing bottles that nobody can actually afford. for the ones with normal prices applicable, they are good and I never had any bad surprises like having one corked or too hot. this is quite appreciable as london pubs tend to leave the bottle of red wine under the lamps forever and you end up drinking mulled wine instead of what you had ordered. they also have nice beers other than the ones you can find in big branches or tourists pubs. this is a proper english pub made for real men. always the good point as well in these days when the smoking ban is king, there is a heated garden, with tables and benches and enough spaces to squeeze all your mates (sqeeze to keep you warm even better) this pub is for you if you want a quiet night chatting or a romantic date but bear in mind that it is no o'neils. it is all about the british nonchalance... read more
