I rented a property on December 8 signing a lease that was fully executed and legally ratified and gave the owner a security deposit. Over the past two months we coordinated my move with the owner making sure the utilities were in my name and making arrangements to pick up the key on the move in date which is February 1. My family made arrangements to fly in to help me with the move and I paid a mover as well. There were a great deal of arrangements that were necessary and I forwarded my mail. This last Friday less than a week before my move I received a casual email from the landlord that she would not be allowing me to move in. She gave no excuses or reasons. I found out that she had actually sold the house and never took it off the market during the period of time that she showed me the house, executed the lease, took the security deposit, and coordinate my move. Thinking that she had an obligation to at least tell her buyer, the title company, the broker, and all associated contacts, I contacted the Harcourt Garner group to try to gain some assistance. They would do nothing! They referred me to their attorney who stonewalled me at every juncture. They are unethical and a bad neighborhood and community partners. The bottom line is doing business with them is a risk and I would never take it

My friend was smart enough to see these issues early on and was smart enough to work with another lender. However, I was far enough along it was too late for me to easily switch. I'm glad I've worked with other lenders buying other houses--I imagine it would be very difficult to work with Kathy as a first time home buyer. She forgot to update me how much money I would need at closing, resulting in me scrambling for thousands of dollars last minute, and resulting in costly unnecessary wire fees. She apologized this and said she would 'absolutely reimburse me' for these fees. It's now been almost 3 months and I haven't heard another word about it from her. She did admit she was busier than she had been in the past and hired an office assistant--maybe that will help her with her future clients.
