As a wedding coordinator myself, working alongside with other vendors can get really sticky b/c egos can be high. But in this case and at this wedding (10/5/13) , the chemistry was excellent! Our client was the top priority and having teamwork with another vendor is sometimes difficult to find. But not with Adam and Grace--they were a dynamic husband-wife team that exuded tons of friendliness, enthusiasm and swiftness....who wouldn't want to work with people like that?! We were in constant communication so that we were able to set each other up for success and deliver flawless jobs relating to our responsibilities. Adam took our 1st family photos in October. A family of six includes me, my husband and our 4 kids (ages 16, 11, 9, and 17 months). Adam is an artistic, cool, professional photographer. Everytime I emailed him with concerns or questions, he always responded in an informative timely manner. His assistant which is his wife, Grace was so kind to suggest wardrobe ideas for the perfect weather. She was so amazing throughout the whole process. Sometimes she helped with me with my concerns because I could be so indecisive. Our photo shoot was in Baker Beach in San Francisco. It was a little breezy that day but the sky was blue with some clouds. It was perfect considering we ran into couple naked people at Baker Beach (known as a nude beach).If you go closer to the Golden Gate Bridge you will see them there. So we stayed away from that area. Adam took his time taking our photos. He made us feel relaxed and comfortable. Our 17 month old baby was a challenge because he was getting restless but Adam was very patient with him. He didn't give up or made me feel I needed to reschedule. He was willing to take photos of him in between baby breaks and giving him snacks. You wouldnt even notice in the pictures we were having a hard time. The photos turned out absolutely amazing. We even booked another family photo shoot the following month in November. This time it was with our extended family members. There were 15 of us. It was so much fun. This time we took our photos at the Oak Grove Park in Stockton. Adam just knows how to capture our family's smiles. He took numerous photos of our family. When I first saw the pictures online, they looked absolutely amazing. The photos were so crisp and beautiful. He even noticed some photos were a bit cool the skin tone didn't look as a great but I couldn't even tell with the originals. That already made me feel he was really heartfelt about his work and clients. Something I would think would be minor I probably wouldn't even notice. He pays attention to detail and makes sure his clients are satisfied with his work. I was very pleased. I am always receiving compliments how beautiful the pictures turned out. We ended up ordering our custom Christmas cards and a big order from them. I highly recommend Adam if you want amazing pictures. He's very talented and he loves his work. read more

Adam traveled to our town (from Stockton to Alameda!) to take maternity photos of me and our growing family. I'm thankful to Adam for not only capturing this special time in our lives so well (and boy, he made us look GOOD) but also for changing my mind on a few things about photographers - but more on that later. First, a few things to note: (1) Great communication - the week before our scheduled session was the STORMIEST and WET week the Bay Area had seen in 2011. Throughout the week, we were in contact and arranged for a backup plan just in case (alternate dates). To be honest, the morning of the session I pretty much resigned to going with our backup plan. However, Adam excitedly contacted us that morning after seeing the forecast - a few-hour window of clear skies that afternoon (overcast is ideal anyway, he said) - and our session was still on! Man, the guy is passionate! (2) Knowing what would work best - when Adam arrived, we drove him by a nearby park which was convenient but our second choice option of venue for the outdoor shoot. We showed it to him and asked what he thought - without hesitation, he suggested we go to our first choice venue to take advantage of whatever time we could get without the rain, and then consider coming back later, time and weather permitting. (3) Planning - we had several rounds of wardrobe consultation (lots of sending iPhone pics and receiving feedback via email). I'm extremely happy with how our outfits turned out in the pics, and I'm surprised at how much work it can take to look subtle. =D Adam has a design background and has a great eye for this stuff, and his stylist brings a nice, different perspective as well. They were not pushy at all but gave pointers and left the final decision to us. Yay for winter neutrals with a pop of color and patterns from a shirt and scarf! At their encouragement, I gave our outfits more thought than I did for our engagement photos, and well... I like our maternity photos way more! (4) Comfortable camera-side manner - I have a ton of examples of this, but suffice it to say that Adam directed (and just let him be at the right times) our 3-year old very well during the shoot. Adam is super nimble and at one point, jumped onto the top of a fence to shoot from on high, and it made our little one laugh which made for a great expression in the photos! =D Now onto what I learned from Adam - I had previously read how important it was for us to "connect" with the photographer, and I admit that I didn't really "get it" even with our experience with our wedding photographer and other photographers we've worked with in the past. After working with Adam, I totally "get it" now! We were so comfortable with him that it translated into natural, comfortable expressions in our photos. I don't consider us "natural" photographic subjects at all (ask to see some of our more awkward engagement photos), but people have commented at how natural we look in Adam's photos. Whew - didn't realize how much I had to say about Adam - in summary, he's my first choice for extended family photos and newborn photos too!!! read more

What can I say.... Adam & Grace are awesome!!!! I had my engagement photo shoot at Baker's Beach in SF and even though it was cold and I was in shorts and a tank top, Adam managed to capture the pictures so beautifully. It didn't look like I was cold at all even though I was freezing. For my wedding, the pictures came out absolutely amazing. Adam & Grace are so great with how they capture random moments when you're not looking. They are so laid back and so much fun to work with. I had lots of laughs. They are always on top things, such as emails and phone calls. Very professional, always there to give advice on the shoots. I was lost in the beginning because I had never done a photo shoot in my life, but they made it so easy and so fun. It was not awkward at all having the camera on my husband and I the whole time even though I tend to be extremely awkward in front of the camera. They're taking photos even when I think they're not around. Adam is all over the place, climbing walls and rolling around on the ground, this guy would do whatever it takes to capture an amazing shot. Love it! Grace is so nice, she helped me prep a lot for the wedding shoot and was funny too. If I ever need my pictures taken professionally again, I would totally call Adam & Grace up. I had a photo shoot with Adam Doi Photography where he took pictures of me and my two girls, ages 6 and 4. He chose a great location and his fashion consultant helped out with the outfit choices. Outfits are hard for us as I am white and my children are mixed race so it is hard for us to find colors that work for everyone, but we did it. Adam was very patient with my girls especially my 4 year old who was in a silly mood. He was patient and waited to find good shots. He even allowed them to dictate some shots which helped them feel at ease with him. He took his time finding good lighting and backgrounds to show all of our best features. He even ended up at one point lying on the ground in the dirt to get a great shot and another time dancing like a ballerina to make my girls laugh. Adam's knowledge of photography is extensive and he is willing to share his knowledge and expertise with his clients. We will definitely be calling Adam again when we want to get family pictures done. His patience with children is wonderful and not something you see with every photographer. I just got the preview of our photo shoot with Adam and I am blown away at his artistic ability. The photos are amazing. The love in our family that Adam was able to capture in each photo is unbelievable. I am excited to be able to choose my favorites, although I don't know how I will ever choose. It is amazing that Adam was able to get so many awesome photos when working with a strong-willed and non-compliant four year old. I will be using Adam's photography skills in the future. read more

We booked Adam for a family photo shoot: dad, mom, 3 kids ages 5, 3, and 10 months. Adam was great in engaging the adults and kids. His personality put us at ease from the very beginning, which translated into relaxed, genuine smiles from all of us. Bottom line, the pictures turned out awesome! With a 30 min shooting time, we ended up with about 25+ pictures we really liked. Keep in mind that we had to get 3 kids to cooperate at the same exact time, so 25+ pictures is A LOT! He offered to consult on coordinating outfits, but we just didn't have time to take that offer. read more

Recently had a photo shoot with Grace. She captured adorable pictures of my 3 children (ages 5,3,9months). Grace had a great deal of patience with my little ones and even gave me some tips on waredrobe so that the pictures would turn out great! She did an amazing touch up on my little one who had an owie on her face. I would recommend anyone with young ones to have Grace take their photos, because she had so much fun with the children and was so considerate of their attention span!! Adam, the absolute greatest photographer (artist) ever, met us for my daughter's Senior Prom. We are a family of 5 with two little ones. I knew that I would not be able to capture all the moments and see my daughter off, if I was busy trying to take pictures. So I booked Adam. Everyone met at a friends house and waited for the limo to arrive. There were 6 prom couples with family and friends waiting to see them off . Adam took such great time and effort to get to know everyone during the shoot. He was friendly, energetic and made sure everyone was comfortable with their pictures being taken. Once the limo arrived, he took pictures of every couple as they entered the limo and many family portraits. He then followed the limo and took additional pictures at the University of Pacific in Stockton, CA. The photos are beautiful and really captured the essence of the all the couples. They looked great and really enjoyed themselves. Adam helped to create a keepsake that my daughter will forever cherish. Her night turned out awesome and it began with the way Adam made her feel: beautiful and timeless. She loves her pictures! Recently, I booked Adam to shoot my daughter's Senior photos. She really wanted her pictures to be different than the norm and she wanted an urban feel to them. I had no idea how to give her that so I left it in the hands of Adam. He had a precise location in mind and it turned out to be exactly what she wanted! My daughter was nervous at first. You could definitely see it in her smile and Adam sensed it right away. He was able to help her to relax and we are so very pleased with the results. The pictures are phenomenal!!! Adam is a photographer, but more importantly, an artist. He has a true passion for photography and is it very apparent in his art (work). Can't wait for him to capture our family moments in the next session. read more

Adam photographed a joint birthday party for our boys and we were thrilled with the shots he got! So many of our friends have commented on the candid photos he captured. He took a photojournalist approach to the party so we really feel as if he documented our whole event. Plus, he was very unobtrusive. Most of our guests didn't realize he was taking their pictures! And we got our pics quicker than we expected, too. We'll definitely use him again. read more

We met Adam in a park on Christmas Eve to capture our family on film. He has a great energy and personality to pull out different emotions and responses from us which made for an easy and wonderful shoot. We have a wonderful library of photos now we have a hard time choosing which ones to frame! He has a great eye for "the whole picture" and not just the subjects. Adam took photos at our wedding in Chicago and gave us some of our most favorite pictures. He definitely has a great eye for detail, and he knows how to really "capture the moment." For weddings especially, the photographer needs to balance NOT being obtrusive, but still doing what is possible to get the perfect photo. Grace took our family photos and they were STUNNING!!! They looked like magazine worthy pictures with an artistic quality. After showing the prints to family and friends everyone wanted her contact info. We found out Grace specializes in families and babies, saw some of her work and we booked a shoot. She answered every crazy question we had and was willing to work with us to make sure we didn't spend beyond our budget. Despite windy conditions and two very uncooperative little ones, the pictures turned out beautiful! Most of the shots were unposed so nothing looked awkward or artificial. Grace had endless patience, plenty of suggestions and never insisted on anything. She was wonderful with our 1 and 4 year old and got a lot of beautiful shots of them. She worked with us on our wardrobe decisions to make sure our outfits didn't clash. In the end we have beautiful, BEAUTIFUL family pictures in our home. We will always hire her for our family pics.
