1 STAR - ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE WITH AVIS FRANCE…read more
This has been, by far, one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had.
Avis made a serious mileage error on my rental agreement, recording the vehicle's starting mileage as 2,014 km instead of 58,128 km. Because of THEIR error, I was charged €14,163.43 on my American Express card for mileage I obviously did not drive.
The worst part? Avis acknowledged the mileage error in writing.
Yet weeks later, I am STILL fighting to get this situation resolved.
I have sent repeated emails asking for my money back and for a clear explanation. Instead of receiving an immediate resolution for such an enormous incorrect charge, I have been passed around while apparently nobody has the authority--or takes responsibility--to confirm what is happening with my refund.
Their own representative has now told me that he cannot even verify whether the refund was actually processed and can only request it again from Customer Service.
Think about that: a company incorrectly charges a customer more than €14,000, acknowledges that the underlying mileage information was wrong, and weeks later cannot even provide a clear confirmation of the refund.
This mistake severely affected my available credit while I was traveling internationally and caused significant inconvenience and additional expenses. What makes the situation even more unacceptable is the lack of urgency and accountability after the error was discovered.
I have documented the rental agreement, the incorrect mileage, the charge, Avis's written acknowledgment of the error, and my repeated attempts to obtain a resolution.
At this point, I am escalating the matter through the appropriate French and European consumer-protection and dispute-resolution channels.
I strongly recommend that anyone considering renting from Avis carefully check every number on the rental agreement, monitor every charge on their credit card, and keep copies of absolutely everything.
Mistakes can happen. What defines a company is how it responds when a mistake happens.
Charging a customer more than €14,000 because of an acknowledged error and then leaving that customer chasing answers for weeks is completely unacceptable.
AVIS: I am still waiting for my money and a definitive resolution.
